In December, Nintendo will activate this unique application that will transform how people find, watch and engage with TV shows, movies and sports. Nintendo TVii makes watching TV simple and fun by bringing together a program guide, remote control and social interaction into one, seamless second-screen experience on the GamePad.
Nintendo TVii comes with Wii U at no additional charge and requires no additional equipment. It works with existing cable and satellite channels. Viewers can engage with others in a variety of ways, such as commenting on moments as they happen on live TV, and then sharing those thoughts via Miiverse, Facebook and Twitter. Users can also discover more about what they’re watching, as information from a variety of sources is automatically linked to the program they are watching, including sports data. Nintendo TVii is customizable for every member of the family.
I thought this was day one :L. But no big deal.
Actually so did I. Kind of extremely disappointing. You just KNOW it will be the very end of December.
I am just happy to find out it will be available in Canada eh
same, frickin’ like nothing good is available here and I have no idea what it’s going to be!
Has Nintendo confirmed Nintendo TVii in EU?
Not yet
Well it is coming to Japan and US.
I hope they bring it over, but it a little problematic that there are really no big video on demand providers in europe… well at least not in germany. But I would like to use it with my satellite tv.
we got netflix and viaplay etc in Sweden but it could have been more movies on them
I remember reading that they were thinking about it..
Really hope we get it eventually, too good a service to stay US exclusive
Iwata said that they were thinking to bring the service to EU, not confirmed yet.
i dont mindthe delay but i want to know if i need a cable plan?
That’s what I wonder, too. Is cable recommended, cause I know Nintendo’s not looking to bring some sort of cable service to their console as well? Then again, M$ has been trying to do this, but nothing from them, either, far as I know.
well, microsoft has xfinity….and thats about it lol. its pretty good, but it’s only the on demand stuff, so you can’t even watch live tv on it other than espn.
For Europe or the USA?
Usa
Sickr, what’s your source for this information? It’s not that I don’t trust you, I’m just curious as to who got the confirmation from Nintendo. That really sucks, I was greatly looking forward to getting the TVii going this Sunday…
I would like to know the source as well, I have read plenty of articles about how Nintendo confirmed tvii will be activated through the day one update along with its eshop miiverse and chat apps.
I’m guessing you’ll get the App Day One, but it’ll be useless and can’t function until Day Thirty-One.
It was from a Nintendo press release from today
Eh. I’m not messed up about it. As long as it’s confirmed for this december then it’s cool. A bit misleading since the company did say that it was, alongside the other updates, available from the start.
I really like the concept of Nintendo TVii. Makes having to use the remote Almost obsolete. But I’ll keep the real power in my hand for now, just in case.
Disappointed! I heard that this was to be available day one. They need to start releasing information a few weeks sooner, so people don’t build up their hopes, only to be let down. Still planning to get, but still upset!
I just hope that the update that allows you to make the data transfer from the Wii to the Wii U is ready on day 1. I want to make the transfer before I do ANYTHING on the Wii U.
By the time I get the U next month, I’ll be ready to watch TVii… especially watching real-time stats from the NFL and the NBA!!!!!!
This doesn’t really bother that much as I didn’t plan to use it really, but I think Nintendo could give the people who preordered Wii U a little compensation since they said that it was going to be here at Wii U launch.
Me, I’d rather they get it right than have to patch it later. So this is no big deal. Now, if they had delayed the LAUNCH, I’d have gone all butthurt Bayonetta fanboy. But as long as I can get Batman, ZombiU, and Nintendo Land, I am content. Get it right, then get it to me.
I don’t mind the delay. This is just a bonus. I’m not getting the Wii U “only” for this. It will be a nice addition when it comes though.
Unless this is happening so that all regions (Including Japan with its December release) can have Nintendo TVii at the same time. Smart move.
So does this mean that I can’t use it as universal remote on Sunday? Can we at least do that? Change source, channel and volume control
I really don’t see why this is being delayed and I must say that I am a little disappointed because I was definitely going to use this feature Day 1. But I shall be busy with Nintendo Land, New Super Mario Bros. U, Batman: Arkham City and Assassin’s Creed III all Sunday so that will give more than enough time to console my disappointment. :P
But I do still wonder…
Does this mean I cannot use the Gamepad as a universal remote from Day 1? Because I HATE my Dish Network remote and I feel that the Gamepad would be a more viable option.
As long as it comes out, then I don’t mind the delay.
I’ve been wondering about this for a long time, and one detail was never explained to me; how does it work? Does it have to be hooked up to my cable box in some way? Does it wirelessly connect? I’d like to know, because between the cable box, the dvd player, and the Wii U, I’ll have 3 hdmi devices, and my tv only has one port. It’d be convenient for me to only have to switch the cable between the DVD player and the Wii U.
I’ll guess and say you will need an A/V receiver or equivalent in order for this to work.
I’ve been looking into this myself. With no HDMI input, it appears you will either only have access to online streaming content or the Wii U Remote function will have to change your TV input to the appropriate HDMI source to on the TV. This only gets more complicated if you have an A/V receiver in the mix.
Nintendo really should have opted for an HDMI pass-through and put the Wii U between your set-top box and TV. What would it have added like $5 or 10 in cost? I just don’t see how the switch from Wii U game to live tv will be seamless given the hardware setup.
