Ubisoft Boss Says They “Believe A Lot” In Wii U And Its Second Screen Capabilities

ubisoft_logoUbisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has reaffirmed the company’s stance on the Wii U, and though it didn’t do as well as he might have hoped, he’s not backing out any time soon. Ubisoft has continued to have a good relationship with Nintendo and, despite Guillemot saying he’s focussing their attention on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, he’s often commented on the Wii U’s second screen capabilities and it paving the way into creating games on tablets and phones. In an interview with CVG, Guillemot has said that the company is certainly expanding their way of thinking, but without the Wii U and creating games – such as Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed 4 – for a second screen, none of that would be possible.

We should also include Wii U in the next-gen conversation. How do you reflect on the decision to back the console so early on?

“I would say that it didn’t do as well as we expected. But if Nintendo comes with good brands this year and takes advantage of the yen, then maybe they have a chance to have a machine that has high quality games and at a reasonable price.

“Because we believe a lot in the second screen and the touch possibilities, the fact that you have a different way to play. We learned a lot in doing that and we are already reusing that knowledge using companion apps on tablets, telephones and so on.

“What I see is we will be able to use a lot more of those devices on the big games we will create. The companion is going to step-by-step become another device to play that will be adapted to a larger audience and still be very interesting to gamers.”

  1. yeah but look it what will happen all the nintendrones wont buy rayman legends because of the delay….. so guess what happens ubisoft was right and they wont support wii u. to them 3rd party cant sell and they were right to bring the game over to ps3 and xbox,( oh look we were right…. the game sold way more on the other platforms than on wii u, im glad we ported it and delayed it on wii u.) does any retarded nintendrone get what you are doing by boycotting!!!!!!

      1. ^this.
Also the delay is not even the major reason now. The Wonderful 101 and Rayman Legends launch at pretty much the same time frame now. You can guess what most Nintendo fans will buy from these 2.
And obviously, the sony and MS fans are buying this over GTA, right? Right?

        1. Exactly. There are a solid half a dozen essential games coming in the next 6 months or so. Ubi really needed to beat them to the punch with Rayman.

    1. I’ll be getting this hopefully this year, but with the number of good games coming out soon, Ubi fucked up.

      1. no shit man…… they really did. what were they thinking!!!! GTA5 or…. THAT!!!!! i hope for people who were excited for it show them that it sells more than the ps3 and 360 versions. really think it was stupid for nintendo not to just publish it because that was an actual game!! hahahah. it also uses the gamepad in a non forced gimmick way!!! like i thought it was really cool how they made it work with wii u and it was fun. ubisoft always uses nintendo’s tech better than them….. remember red steel 2???? im hoping the wii u can at least achieve something special for the player….. unlike the wii.

    1. Each time Ubi makes a business decision that says they have no faith in WiiU, they have to counter it with of these statements.
If they say the WiiU is crap, some people won’t buy it, so less copies of their games will sell. At the same time, the WiiU is doing poorly(ish) already, so they keep refusing to commit to the platform, which hurts sales.
      It’s a horrible cycle.

      1. Well they are partially to be blamed for the Rayman incident…

It seems as if they are scared that Nintendo fans will hate them forever while at the same time they fear the Xbots…

  2. Again? What about hyping up the WiiU versions of their games and advertising them instead of expecting a miracle?

  3. Ubisofts schedule;

Monday – Wii U is crap

Tuesday – Nintendo doesn’t match out business standards

Wednesday – excessive blathering from Pachter

    Thursday – PENIS

Friday – We believe a lot in the Wii U
