Sonic Lost World Producer Admits To Struggling With Previous 3D Sonic Games

sonic lost worldSonic Lost World’s European release is only a few days away, but with all the excitement afoot there are many wondering if Sonic will finally get to grips with 3D. In an interview with Nintendo Life, the game’s producer Takashi Iizuka admits there were times when 3D Sonic didn’t quite fit in the past, but that the team has tirelessly worked to improve the blue hedgehog’s transition from 2D to 3D over the years.

“Yes there was a struggle in 3D Sonic games. From the 1st 3D type Sonic game Sonic Adventure, we tried various levels and environment in 3D. This is because we felt there is more possibility for improvement in 3D type Sonic. So in Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations, we added new gameplay on top of the existing Sonic titles to make a high quality game.”

Iizuka also mentions that the main goal this time around was to make sure the Wii U and 3DS versions held a similar experience for the player. By using the same texture and twisted levels from Wii U, the 3DS version would grant consistency and retain a fluid transition for players. Sonic Lost World will be available October 18 on Wii U and 3DS in Europe, and October 29 for North America.

“One feature in Sonic Lost World is 360 degrees action, so the challenge on 3DS was to apply this 3D action game in 360 degrees action like in Wii U. Of course we couldn’t make it exactly the same, but by using the same texture as Wii U, applying the twisted levels, how you see and feel should be very close to the experience you get from Wii U version.”

    1. Why like W 101 is this come out in the U.K first instead of a full world release.I think this can only hurt sales. And a huge part of why 101 has failed so much.I would have bought 101 first day if I had not seen a month of iffy review’s making me second guess it.Now I’m just waiting for the inevitable price drop in the very near future.Much like Other M had.I’m not saying it would have sold like hotcakes here but it would have at least sold few more copy’s at full price to the more impulsive gamer’s like myself.

      1. But that was due to the lack of advertisement. I have the game. It’s a lot of fun. It is flawed, but that doesn’t stop it from being a truly great game.

Not fanboying. It was legit fun.

        1. Yeah! That’s the spirit! Sonic does in fact suck! He boasts more bad games than good ones! Pathetic! We get a new sonic platformer every single year! Talk about milking a franchise
          Dry!

  1. Peanut Butter Kit Kat

This could potentially be a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a decent 3D Sonic game, how long has it taken them?

  2. I have Wii U version of this game on pre-order. But for people who expect it to save WIi U i think will be bad news, since it’s NOT a WiiU exclusive, but nintendo exclusive. so lots of people will buy 3ds version instead. And it seems to me like it was intended to be 3ds game, then later they updated textures a bit and ported it to Wii U in HD. will be same as with monster hunter i guess

          1. Now you Play Dumb. Before WWHD and Wonderful101 came out every Nintendog Game(Insert here) will save the wii u and at the end? No One buys it.

    1. This game was in development since generations before the Wii U was announced and that means 2010 or 2009 and Sega only handles console and PC games and Dimps only touches the handhelds

  3. So dumb Sega was more into bringing the 3DS version as close as possible to Wii U yet don’t give online to Wii U version. That was stupid which is why this game won’t save Wii U neither will next Smash. 3DS install base is gigantic how the hell is Wii U supposed to come pet with that especially if 3DS versions don’t lack features? There is a difference between Smash Bros being top ten best selling and Wii U sales increasing,

  4. Famitsu have given the Wii U version 9/9/9/9 and the 3DS version 8/9/8/9.

Looks like Sega might have finally cracked it. And it only took help from Nintendo.

My Wii U has been posted today, so I should receive that tomorrow. Will probably get the 3DS version at some point too.

      1. Ignoring that Pikmin 3, WWHD, NSMBU had received good scores “for a Wii U” game but you rather play dumb as if that never happened.

        1. But… those were all good games…. XD i dont see your logic when you named some of the best titles on the Wii U

  5. So the Wii U version is still better even without online? Sweet the trolls made it seem as online was a must on all games.
