Nintendo President Says NX Will Be Different And New Experience

We know very little about Nintendo’s next product which is simply code named, NX. Time recently had the chance to speak to Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima about the device which Kimishima describes as different and a brand new experience. He said that the platform won’t simply be a follow up to both the Wii and Wii U. Sounds interesting!

The NX is “a next step in our dedicated device strategy, the core and primary focus of our business.”

“As far as NX goes, I’ve said it’s different and obviously a new experience,” he tells me. “If you look back to the beginning of our conversation today, we talked about the transition from Wii hardware to the Wii U hardware and how difficult it is to explain to the consumer base what is different and new about the new hardware. It’s difficult to convince them to switch from their current platform to the next platform.”

“That being said, I can assure you we’re not building the next version of Wii or Wii U. It’s something unique and different. It’s something where we have to move away from those platforms in order to make it something that will appeal to our consumer base.”

  1. That sounds EXTREMELY PROMISING! Telling us pretty much that it’s not gonna be a Wii U 2.0 is fantastic! Moving away from those platforms to a completely new one that will appeal to the consumers. Everything about what he said sounds terrific! Even though I love my Wii U and it’s my favorite system this gen, it had problems and moving away from the Wii brand and starting something entirely new, is EXACTLY what people are asking for!

    1. Yeah this confirms that Nintendo will finally be putting the Wii name to rest and good riddance. Yeah I don’t mind if the system is unique and different so long as the gimmicks aren’t forced on us but I all I want is for the NX to be powerful enough to compete with the PS5 and the next Xbox, have x86 architecture so that 3rd parties don’t have any excuses to not give it support and some killer exclusive content. Innovation is a cool feature but the GAMES are the most important thing when it comes to gaming and that should be Nintendo’s key focus going forward with the NX

      1. Wait… I thought that the NX would still be 8th gen not 9th (if thats what your implying by saying NX needs to compete with PS5 and XB2)….
Its way too early to start 9th when PS4 and XB1 are only 2 years old, wiiu only 3 (plus 1-2 years when NX comes out). It would be way too confusing for consumers to grasp the NX as 9th gen. I’m not bashing the NX, I’m simply saying it may be a difficult and confusing concept to understand. To my knowledge the NX is still 8th gen or even sub-gen.

  2. That sounds great to me but looking at the best selling console right now wich is just the same old thing with more powerful hardware I’m not sure if that’s what the general public wants.

We’ll have to wait and see, anyway if it has good games and sells enough to keep Nintendo afloat so they can continue making good games it’s fine by me, it doesn’t have to be the best selling console.

  3. Tatsumi knows what he’s talking about he will make everything right, which Wiiu was amazing console it was more targeted like Wii then next platform same design + look, similar name but had U at the end, controls the same, lot of consumers thought it had flashier graphics 1080p HD graphics is the same system not right system had new powerful hardware/architecture just giving us new controller gamepad this come to bad advertising telling consumers nothing about the console not very good move Nintendo.

New president will put everything right and he seems will make NX very popular and things will much different to Wiiu, sometimes people don’t know how to market the system right and that’s first move need to be right.

    1. Your grammar needs some polish but tou have the right idea. This guy has a more straightforward and clear way of translating information to the consumer. New and innovative can sell, and i bet in his mind the wiiU should have done better, but with him righting the ship, it should be interesting how this happens…

    1. Do am I. I’m so glad I’ve begun migrating from Nintendo consoles…takes a lot of pressure off… So no matter what happens, I’m good now.

I don’t even know what to expect anymore, but I won’t be buying it day one. Yeah, it will be sold out and scalped on ebay for a couple months… But I can wait for it to return to retail if it truly shows promise.

  4. they putting there different project in to a new level yeah i don’t think the NX will have a game pad controller because it will not be suitable in this contention but hey at least the new president knows what he is doing but i gonna say nintendo is putting alot of IPs on this new project so that way the NX will be more enjoyable also my guess for this page that the NX will be twice as powerful like the PS4 and XB1 yeah i don’t know if the Miis will show up on the NX because it might be remove.

    1. Why will they remove Miis when they are making Miitomo for mobile connecting all Nintendo IPs and business ventures together?

    2. I’m sorry, but I very much doubt it will be twice as powerful as an X1 or PS4. You really should consider tapering your expectations a little. Then again, it’s a free country.

  5. I read the whole interview and it was a nice touch asking him what was the meaning of code name NX. He says he didn’t know it had a meaning and didn’t know if iwata didn’t tell her the meaning or it just has no meaning.

  6. Asking them to bring back the Wiimote and Nunchuk for the NX is asking too much? I love this controller scheme so much and feels great for a big variety of genres, for another types, they could keep the Pro Controller.

Of course, both them with the proper improvements.

    1. HOW DO YOU BRING BACK SOMETHING THAT NEVER LEFT IN THE FIRST PLACE

YOU PEOPLE ARE IDIOTS WII U IS CLEARLY 4 WII REMOTES 1 GAMEPAD AS THE GAMEPAD SCREEN CLEARLY FUCKING INDICATES ON YOUR WIIU

LOOK AT THE FUCKING OS INTERFACE TOP OF SCREEN IT CLEAR’Y DISPLAYS 4 WII REMOTES OR OTHER CONECTED WII REMOTE BASED CONTROLLER AND 1 GAMEPAD

THE WII REMOTE NEVER LEFT THERE FOR HOW DOES IT RETURN

This gen has proven to me i live amoungst some SERIOUSLY RETARDED PEOPLE wiiu did not have A CONTROLLER it had CONTROLLER’SSSSSSSZZZZZ

wii u controllers gamepad gamecube pad pro pad classic pad pro wii remote nunchuck even dualshocks can be used via a wii remote connector

THE WII REMOTE DIDNT GO ANYWERE

      1. You might sound crazy, but you are right. Wiimotes are there and they work great with a bunch of games… the only problem with the WiiU is it wasn’t called the WiiHD, and wasn’t marketed right with 3rd party support (for various reasons I know)… what this new thing will be, who knows

  7. Jaded Ridley X3 {I'm not whining, you suckers... *cough* ..poor souls! I've just been driven insane by Nintendo failing me one too many times this gen!}

I like the sound of it. But then again, I liked the sound of the Wii U when it was first released but now look where we are… But I’ll give Kimishima the benefit of a doubt since he did say the Wii would be a mistake before it’s release. Or was he talking about Wii U? *shrug*

    1. He was talking about the Wii U. He said the name would be confusing, and that it was not powerful enough, and a couple of other things I can’t remember right now. Anyways he has amazing insight and should be an excellent president.
