After wondering yesterday morning just when our Ds Lite stock would appear, it turned out later on that day the machines arrived at there intended destination, though only in 'Apple' white.
Now to be honest, like most people I hadn't had the chance before to get up close and personal with a fully working Ds Lite unit, so of course I jumped at the chance to go hands on with the console. Once we finally removed the machine from it's rather minimalistic packaging (which coincidentally looks very 'I Pod') I examined the machine. Once I had gotten over just how smooth and sleek the machine looked in comparison with the original, the next thing that struck me was just how comfortable the machine felt to hold and use.
The next thing to do was to grab an original store Ds and plug in a game, and then start both machines up in union. The results were startling…The Ds Lites screen as expected was very bright and vibrant, where as the original DS's screen looked very dark and dingy. It shocked me just how different the contrast of both were, so much so that I even mentioned to my manager that all it would take to sell a DS Lite over the cheaper DS original is to place them side by side and show the customer just how much more vivid the screen is, he agreed.
I was even more impressed with the Ds Lites performance than I originally thought I would be, as there is such a radical change of how the games visually appear, once they are inserted into the DS Lite. As I have personally pre-ordered a Ds Lite black I am still left wondering when we will see them, as our store has yet to receive our shipments of the machine. To help soften the blow of this, the fantastic boys and girls at Joystiq have managed to get some hands on photos of the black Ds Lite in action, which subsequently were submitted by someone who works at another video game retailer, now I am asking the question; just where are ours!…
