It appears news of Nintendo’s forthcoming Wii console is spreading throughout gamers, and also non-gamers.
The reason I make this statement is due to the increasing amount of people who have mentioned, or made suggestion towards the console. Mainly when brought up in conversation, the Wii is described by uninformed customers as; 'That machine that has a wand' or queried; 'What exactly is the Wii?’ These appear to be just uneducated statements and questions from people, who seemingly have no idea about what Nintendo are trying to achieve with the Wii. But it's still mighty impressive to see both non-gamers, and gamers at least acknowledge the fact that the next generation console race isn't just between Sony's Playstation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360.
Once I inform the customers what the Wii is all about, they pause for a few seconds and ponder the possibilities that could arise from such a radical console. Then once I move on to tell them about games such as Red Steel, and Wii Sports unique control schemes, they start to get rather excited, and just to clarify, this isn’t kids; it's mainly adults that inquire about the console, as the general line is; 'my mate told me about it'. I imagine the younger generation are already clued up on such things from either the playground, or overuse of the Internet, which of course is great, but I believe it's even better at this stage that adults are becoming interested in what Nintendo are doing. This may have arisen from the concept that Nintendo are no longer 'crap', which seems to be a viewpoint shared by many, possibly due to the failure of the companies Gamecube console. Now I believe adults have more trust in the Nintendo brand, as I would imagine most of their children own the company’s handheld the Nintendo Ds, which as we all know has been a huge success across the board.
One question that almost certainly pops up is; So how much are they going to cost?, now of course I obviously don’t know the full price that the machine is set to retail at, but when I mention in the region of £150 their interest seems to grow even further. By now most people in general who visit a game store, know of the price point of both the upcoming Playstation 3 and the readily available to purchase Xbox 360. In comparison to both of those machines the Wii looks like being an inexpensive machine that is both perfectly suited towards both children and adults. Because of this, it certainly looks as if Nintendo’s forthcoming console could be seeing a place under quite a few Christmas trees come this winter, and it doesn’t appear it will just be the kids who will unwrapping and playing it.
