Nintendo as expected has come out in defence of its original, and innovative dual screen device the 'Ds large'
The company has stated to the media that 'as long as there is demand for the system' Nintendo will continue to support it. With the recent launch of the slim, redesigned lite version of the console, many gamers thought Nintendo would discontinue the console, as in comparison, the Lite version is the far superior machine. This leads people to speculate just who exactly would want to purchase the 'original' Ds, as currently Nintendo haven't mentioned any price cuts regarding the machine, so at present it stands to retail for only ten pounds less than the Lite version.
Though Nintendo themselves still remain convinced that there will still be demand for the original Ds console. Speaking to gaming publication Gamesindustry.biz a Nintendo representative had this to say on the subject:
"Don't forget that the Pink and Blue DS units are only available in the old model, which account for a large percentage of our sales to girls. And like Japan we haven't seen any drop off in sales of the old model in the run-up to the launch of DS Lite."
This may well be true, as I know for a fact those two coloured original units are selling like hotcakes over here, though of course it's apparent that interest will wane slightly in face of the Ds Lite being readily available for purchase. One thing I do personally find interesting is the fact that Nintendo haven't created a Nintendogs bundle with the Ds Lite yet, considering it's currently the best selling game on the system in the UK.
I believe the reasoning behind this is due to the company hoping that consumers will purchase the coloured edition of the original Ds to play this game, as Nintendogs comes included at a cheaper price point. Though it's more than likely that we will see in-store promotions from various retailers counteracting this. Either way it will be certainly be interesting to see just how much longer the original Ds can survive when its far superior younger brother has taken the spotlight.
It would be handy to see an original ds go for under £50 in about 3 or 4 moths time. Then I could buy it again and keep it just as a nice memory along with all my other consoles. :P
But the coloured version surely are always going to be popular specially pink . Yesterday I went to GAME to pick up that case and there was a black one and a pink one , I didnt even look twice and somehow the pink one was gone in a flash ! Good thing I had the black one on me though so I bought it .
That plastic thing inside is odd though , I had to use scissors to cut it out even if I didnt take all of it as its attached to the case but my mother says she can do it . :( I been having a tough break with these acessories.
I just remembered all those ds traded in as well , wonder if they will sell at all after looking so old!
That price point sounds more than resonable, though Nintendo will certainly have to so something if it wishes to shit units of its original Ds. As we know up against the Ds Lite it looks like a completely different console.
The official cases that I noticed we had available looked fantastic, I’m generally a person who dismisses those kind of things, but even I’m tempted to get one.
I have no idea what we are going to do with all our traded in Ds’es, I bet when I go to work later the store will be overrun by them lol.
:D
I’m sure that they will appeal to people who want to play it, but don’t have too much money.
Although, personally, I would get the Lite in an instant.
Well judging from yesterday it seems like people are still intent on purchasing the original Ds.
This though was mainly due to the fact that we stock the pink and blue original versions with Nintendogs, which currently doesnt come in any DS Lite bundels.
cool
My kids still have the large nintendo ds,and they have’nt asked for the slim version as of yet,but i think it would be good for people who maybe can not afford to splash out on a couple of ds lites for their kids.
bad is it
where are we supposed to get the pink ds original?
Ds Gurl, we received the original pink ds here in England. It was launched alongside Nintendogs I believe :D
