There are a handful of games out there that can spark off an individual feeling be it of joy, loneliness or tranquility, though none have recently come close to rivaling the sheer feeling of magic I felt once I went hands on with the New Super Mario Bros.
Nintendo has once again managed to tweak one of its key franchises to near on perfection; once you pick up the game it feels, so natural, as if you never stopped playing Super Mario World on the Super Nintendo all those years ago. The visuals are bright, colourful and vibrant, and the level design is awe inspiring, as every jump and every obstacle has been placed with unseen hands of care and perfection.
These aspects combined make me ask a couple of questions namely; does gaming actually get much better than this? And; just how are developers set to present us with gaming experience’s that better the ones we were given in the early 90’s with these upcoming ‘next generation‘ consoles?
Sure the machines have a lot more ‘grunt power’ to play around with than the ones developers are currently accustomed to, but if all the games are set to do is deviate slightly from the original templates which were left by the current generation and before, it then poses the question; do we really need them?
Bought it yesterday as well! Addictive shit! :D DS Lite is my first console since Nintendo 64. And NSMB brings back the same joy that M64 did! It does not get better than this, for sure!
Games becoming repetitive? Step in the Wii (no pun intended, honest!).
It’s now that we realise that Iwata was actually making sense in his numerous speeches about games becoming ‘dry’. I think that the Wii will take a huge leap forward, but I don’t think that the other companies will follow. I can see Nintendo coming out on top because of this, just think how many people will want to play!
As you can probably tell by the article, playing this game brought back floods of nostalgia.
Gaming certainly dosent get any better…
And Calum your right, people are always looking for new experiences. In fact only the other day I was chatting away to a customer when he suddenly stated
‘I might just give up on games, there all the same and there’s nothing new about them’.
These people are the primary target for the Nintendo Wii, people who are currentlydissatisfied with the current state of gaming.
Viva la revolution.
:D
Yeah, I think that games will dry up in the generation after next. Microsoft and nintendo have an advantage over Sony. Nintendo, for obvious reasons. Microsoft for their online games. No other consoles games are as good as the Xbox’s (ot counting PC as a console). I think that online will help to ‘save’ gaming just as much as nintendo’s innovation.
Online gaming certainly can expand a games lifespan.
A good example of this would be Xbox live, as titles such as Halo, and Call Of Duty 2 have had their live’s prolonged by their online modes.
Nintendo stated a few months ago that they are currently looking to see how well online role-playing games fair on consoles…
Could the big ‘N’ be looking to move one of its key role playing franchises online in the future? We shall have to wait and see…
