EA one of the biggest players within the video games industry went on record yesterday to say that it believes Nintendo are set to launch the Wii at $170.
Much speculation has arisen in the past over the pricing of Nintendo’s forthcoming console, with the company continuing to remain tight lipped as to how much consumers are set to pay, only stating that it will be affordable. EA’s Executive VP and COO, David Gardner mentioned that he believed the Japanese price point for the console was currently set at $170, but was reasonably unsure as to how much the machine is set to retail for in Europe.
David Gardner also went on to reiterate what many suspected; Nintendo are looking to become that second gaming machine in consumers households, leaving its current gen rivals Sony and Microsoft to battle it out respectively for first place : “Nintendo has come up with a very clever strategy,” Gardner said. “They’ve made a choice which is great for the consumer. Now we’re going to have a choice whereby consumers can buy a Wii, plus one other console.”
That’s about €130, without the tax that will be added. >_very cheap.
Umm…that deleted half of my comment…
So, if it’s $170, how much will we have to pay for an extra controller, memory card, etc, etc. How much will the “bottom line” be for the Wii?
It certainly sounds cheap, but I’m still expecting it to retail for around £130-£150 in the UK.
FlyingSquirrl it’s unconfirmed how much peripherals will cost for the Wii, but it’s a given that you will need to purchase both a memory card and an extra controller seperately. All will hopefully be revealed soon… We hope :D
£130-150 = €195-225
Cheap enough for me. :)
