Adventures of Elliot producer ‘surprised’ fans believe fairy companion talks too much

The HD-2D title The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is shaping up to be something special and it’s not long until the game is finally available on Nintendo Switch 2 and other formats. One thing that immediately because clear is the fairy which accompanies you on your grand journey has a lot to say for itself. Kotaku chatted with the producer of The Adventures of Elliot, Naofumi Matsushita. Mr. Matsushita says he was “surprised” when he saw the feedback about the talkative fairy and he says that those that find her talkative nature annoying there’s an option to reduce her dialogue in the in-game settings menu.

“Matsushita told me that the team was genuinely “surprised” to learn that a lot of players didn’t like how much Faie, Elliot’s fairy companion, talked. And yes, Faie really did seem to have a statement for every situation, interjecting commentary about everything from seeing a treasure chest to getting hit by an enemy. Matsushita told me the team truly did not perceive the endless chatter as an issue until players told them. “Since we had been involved with the game’s development for such a long time, we had naturally grown very fond of Faie ourselves, and in hindsight I think we may have become a little biased because of that,” he said.

For that reason, he continued, Team Asano added an option to reduce her dialogue in the settings, which I am sure many people will immediately activate when they first meet her in the game.”

  1. She is like Navy and Fi combined into my worst nightmare, she was actually my least favorite part about the game, I am glad to see an option to make her shut up.

  2. I honestly didn’t mind it. She never came across as nagging in the demo, but more so just commentating over the current events. I can understand how that may annoy some people (and there have certainly been other games with companions that are too much), but Faie was more cute imo. It’s pretty cool how they provided options though—shows a level of humility/fans-first that I don’t see too often.

  3. Legend of Zelda all over again it sounds like. Honestly at this point with companion characters only make them talk little as possible and add a button prompt if necessary or gamers will be pressed.
