English and European retro gamers are set to revert back to the unforgettable 50hz black screen borders come the Wii launch tomorrow.
Preparations are proceeding at a swift pace for tomorrows Wii launch in the Europe with the Wii Virtual Console service already live and running. But to the suprise of many, some of the titles intially being made available are set to suffer from intollerable conversions.
The main offenders spotted thus far sporting horrendous black borders, and playing noticeably slower than their NTSC counterparts are Sonic the Hedgehog, and F-Zero. Though both extremely playable as expected, the sense of speed for which both titles are reliant upon just isn’t there according to CVG.
Though there’s a glimmer of hope on the horizon in the shape of both Super Mario 64, and Donkey Kong Country. Both of these classic titles have been fully optimized, with no noticeable form of slowdown, or hideous black borders. Let’s just hope these integral titles usher a new trend for lazy development teams.
I can’t wait until the wii finally arrives. Go go nintendo go!
I genuinely can’t wait till tomorrow, finally I’ll be the proud owner of a Nintendo Wii. I’m working the launch, so that’s going to be great fun :)
=-)
Are you guys expecting the same crazyness as we got here in NA?
Take care!
I’m expecting some insanity to happen with regards to the Wii launch tomorrow, but it’s all to be expected. I played the console myself this afternoon and was subsequently blown away. The controller is just insane, I just couldn’t believe how intuitive and natural it felt playing Wii Sports. Can’t wait for tomorrow :)
Strange how it’s only English gamers that get the big borders, as far I can glean from this fabulously informative and rigorously researched piece Wii owners in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will have border free gaming, go Celts!
Or maybe it’s BRITISH retro gamers that will suffer the borders? Who REALLY knows?
