Nintendo Wii: No Main Pokemon Game For The Nintendo Wii

Online gaming publication IGN recently had the chance to sit down with Junichi Masuda, co-founder of GameFreak and director of Pokemon Black & White who disclosed that there will be no main Pokemon game for the Nintendo Wii.

Would we see the Wii host a Pokemon title that was a main part of the series?

“I don’t think so. I think the Pokemon core series is always going to be with handheld hardware, in the future as well. I consider handheld hardware you can carry around with you as almost being equal to being with Pokemon, always. I think handheld really matches the idea of Pokemon that we have. Also, you can communicate and transfer data all the time, whenever you want with a handheld. That’s also a match with the Pokemon concept.”

    1. Those games aren’t even that old. They’re what, maybe 5 or 6 years old? It would be pointless to do a remake of them, even if they were to do it 10-20 years from now. They just weren’t popular enough. I think they should do a Pokemon Stadium 3 instead. That would get A LOT of buys.

  1. My thoughts exactly when reading just the title of this article.

Handheld gaming matches the idea that you and your Pokemon travel together. What I would like to see now is a 3DS Pokemon game as part of the main series

  3. I figured as much. I saw just a 10 word tweet and thought, “duh, why would they make a MAIN Pokemon game for an @ home console, when the whole concept of Pokemon is a small handheld monster you can carry everywhere?”
I do forsee either a WiiWare(possibly also/for 3DS) market game to download, like Pokemon Ranch, where you can transfer in and -@Me- I not only agree a Pokemon game should come for the 3DS (in time), I believe it WILL come, idk when it would though, because DS is still the viable system A LOT of people own. AND I think that the whole “visual effects not for children” issue will deffer people from buying it right away like they did… although I’ve read the presale orders for 3DS are record breaking.
Lastly, lol, I hope they make some new kind of Pokewalker, like they have for HG/SS, for future titles or just send an update through a new game that allowed all of the Pokemon that would be catchable both on old trails and on new generation games.

    1. Why would they make a PokeWalker for the 3DS when the console itself has a built-in pedometer, and the equivalent of Watts – Game Coins – which can be used to purchase in-game items in compatible games such as SSFIV, and potentially games like Animal Crossing.

  4. I would still prefer a Pokemon MMO…which would be more console oriented than handheld. The series is perfect for that direction and would add what the portables doesn’t add to the main line of Pokemon–mainly a living Pokemon game with all regions, gyms, and players free to come across each other.

…instead of humbling Bug Catcher Joey and NEVER seeing him again for the remainder of the game. I understand that the concept of Pokemon on a handheld matches the concept of carrying them around wherever, but once I beat the rival, whatever Team is always in each game, all gyms, and so on the game is effectively over. Catching all X50 Pokemon is mainly for the completist trainer (which is fine).

  5. Makes sense now.
Although I always wanted a main Pokemon game on the console because I did not like how limited Colosseum and XD was :/

It does’t have to be the main part of the series but at least don’t make it that the selection of Pokemon is limited or limit to the DS like Battle Revolution was.

  6. So what if its based around handheld hardware some people would prefer a home console version with a nice 3D environment to explore (like Colosseum or XD). It’s just laziness, its easier to adopt the same top-down/isometric each generation because its a hell of a lot less work to do.

  7. Hi Im Jose and Im not Mexican
