Nintendo Wii U: Wii U Is Scheduled For A June Release But Could Come Out In September

French site 01Net which was the site that provided leaked PlayStation Vita and Wii U information is claiming that they have brand new information regarding the Wii U. The most interesting piece of information is that Nintendo is currently aiming for a June release for the console.

“Ten months before the tentative release date – developers are still expecting a June 2012 release – the fact that Nintendo engineers are still struggling to make this supposedly final architecture function properly is worrisome at best. Could Nintendo have to make radical last-minute changes, and if so, what would be the cost? This unexpected development runs contrary to Nintendo’s reputation for carefully weighing all tech options long before any announcement. Inside the company, there have been talks of a delayed release, with September as a new tentative date. Being three months off-schedule doesn’t seem such a big issue, when compared to a home console’s life cycle. But this is not 2006 anymore. The industry is undergoing a radical mutation, and there is a growing amount of rumors positioning Microsoft’s next system to be unveiled during the 2012 E3 conference, and a relase in short order. If that was to happen, the Wii U would only enjoy a few months of ‘optimal run’ alongside the Xbox 360, which would essentially moot the much-touted ease with which developers can port 360 code for the Wii U. To succeed in its incredibly audacious endeavour, Nintendo will have to walk a very tight rope.”

  1. I’d say september is better. Give Releasing something close enough to holidays without being to close the december is very key for appeal.

    1. They didn’t say it’d be April, they said the earliest COULD be April 2012.

But then again they said Skyward sword was going to be Holiday 2010… and now it’s 11/20/2011

  2. so it is on schedule? And they are gonna have to compete with the nextbox?
I have a 360 and enjoy it but if it’s really coming out shortly after wii you than wwhy are they working so hard on the current xbox

  3. What’s such a big change that it has to be delayed?! Unless they were adding 4080p(UHDTV) support for the Wii-U!

    1. Theres no point on making the wii u gfx card compatible with UHD because theres no UHD tv’s! and even if there was, it would cost a fortune. were not going to see those for some years. if nintendo did delay it would probably be to get a newer or better card then the one that is already plan for the Wii U (which is a radeon r700 series card as i recall).

      1. also the governments make the standards for TV’s and the standard is 1080p. Corporate don’t make the standards. There will be no new format as they made 2 new standards in a short period of time. 720 then 1080p. The consumers are not universal with 1080p.

  4. I’ve been saying September/October. E3 is their chance to really show it off, I don’t see it being June due to E3. It won’t be “here it is, now go out and buy one now!”

I understand why they are shooting for June, but a major console in summer? Just look how awesome the 3DS did in Spring. Better with a Fall release IMO.

  5. Maybe they should just get replace the controller with the Vitality Sensor. :)

Seriously though, has it been mentioned yet if the Wii U controller can be used in the place of the Classic Controller for supported Wii games?

  6. Fucking bastard satorua iwata that fucking dick he messed up enough of our time now he’s making us fucking wait more!!?? That bastard better see an april release I’m already pissed about the price change now the fucking piece of shit is making It june?! FUUUUUCK IM SO PISSED!! Just kidding LOL anyway I do think it should see an april release for good reason

    1. lol at your crazyness, but i think april is to early, is better they take there time before they mess up in something, on the other hand to late would make me go “just take my money already”

    2. I was convinced for a minute there. I’d like to see a April release too but i don’t want it to turn out like xbox 360 launch.

      1. I don’t even remember that launch. Xbox exists in my house solely because of Halo. These days though, it exists solely for MW2 and soon MW3.

  7. summer would be a bad time. no one would be home to enjoy it, thats why game releases suck in the summer. september would be better.

    1. Closer to christmas is better, because then there’s a whole load of customers that would buy it for christmas and wouldn’t otherwise

  8. If this is true, then E3 2012 will be HUGE. But I don’t see them releasing all news on a console less than a month before it’s release, so I expect later in the year. And I don’t think this french site knows what there talking about. They seem to believe anything there told.

    1. Them and half of the rest of the world… Personally I find these internet rumors are to be really annoying. I miss the good old days of being genuinely surprised about news in the gaming world, when the developers themselves would actually get to announce their own stuff on their own. Now everything gets leaked and spoiled before you even get a chance to try it out, which leads to plenty of silly comments from silly people who are silly enough to slip into the sillyness!

      1. I know! Imagine how much better E3 wouldv’e been if Wii U was never leaked. What a surprise it wouldv’e been!

  9. Not a chance that Nintendo will release the Wii U in June 2012, I agree with others that September or October would be more realistic. What’s most important is that Nintendo does not rush it just to satisfy a small group of impatient people who want everything now. Nintendo needs to make sure they have a strong launch date line up of games and their online ecosystem ready, unlike the 3DS.

  10. I dont think its a good idea to release a GAME CONSOLE in the SUMMER LOL.
I would rather wait, let game developers do their stuff and develop into using multiple wiiupads.

  11. There’s something about this set of rumors from 01.net that seem fishy and suspect to me. they say developers are “struggling” with the Wii U hardware, and even specific aspects like the wireless communication from console to controller, but that is refuted by actual developers like Vigil saying programming for that part was a breeze, such that they had one guy do the code for this specific function in about 30 minutes.

Time to downgrade 01.net to “grain of salt” then.

  12. Doesn’t really matter tbh, if they release it late it just means it’s closer to christmas and they’ll get loads of sales from people who wouldn’t buy it otherwise. And If it’s release closer to christmas there’ll still be a hype around it which would help it to sell

  13. Be funny if this was Nintendo leaking false information after the original leak to basically discredit 01net going forward. :)

  14. I think this is false becuz Nintendo’s always innovative and the engineers always succeed. There hasn’t been a console yet that’s had problems like the 360 and ps3. The 3DS wasn’t delayed so until we get an official date, I’m not buying this.

  16. lol graphics up is yes but goin higher then 1080p and 60 fps ur brain cant even tell the difference i would not pay for a 2k 4k p tv or system waste my money on somthing i cant tell the dif im gonna stick with wii u

  17. I’m worried about the new console by Microsoft. The 360 was rushed and look what happened. If the same happens here then Nintendo WiiU will have more time instead of less in a delicious irony.

  18. I have $250 towards. OKay good, so if I get my ass a job during the school year and I get at least $50 for Christmas I’ll be rocking KFfOS on my new WiiU in no time. *Crazy smile*
