Nintendo of America has also announced the ten free Nintendo Ambassador NES games. The ten games are exactly the same as the ones Japan are getting and presumably the UK and Europe. The ten free NES games will be free to download from September 1st.
- Super Mario Bros.™
- Donkey Kong Jr.™
- Balloon Fight™
- Ice Climber™
- The Legend of Zelda™
- Metroid™
- NES Open Tournament Golf
- Wrecking Crew
- Zelda II – The Adventure of Link
- Yoshi

SWEETTT 2 ZELDAA GAMESS zomg metroid :DDD
Sounds kool. Gr8 zelda n metroid
I think the european ones won’t be much different
In just 2 days. I’m so excited.
The lack of Kirby and Kid Icarus is a little~~ disappointing (and for the latter quite surprising), but it’s irrelevant really – it’s the free GBA games that will REALLY matter and divide people…
Those were my thoughts on the Japanese post. Can’t beat free though.
I played those in the 80s and the 90s and the 00s…
Sweet all pretty good games. I may finally conquer Zelda2.
Its so hard but really rewarding when you do complete it!
This is true. I beat it for the first time just a few months back.
I always get stuck around the swamp/mountain area. Just don’t know where to go! Hoping this time will be different. :)
awsomeness cant wait super exicited and thes games just make it better
They’re not free! Unless you bought your 3ds for the lower price and got in on the ambassador program, you paid $80 for these games. Are these worth that much $ to you? Ok, so we get 10 gba games too. Are these worth $40 to you? Not to me. I’m interested in 4 of these. And, I’ve played those 4 so many times in the last 25 years.
Doesn’t matter what they are worth, Nintendo did not have to offer them to us in the first place. This is appreciation for purchasing the 3DS before Aug 12.
What did Sony give you when they dropped the price from $600 to $250 over the past 5 years? Nothing.
umm… note the the price drop for PS3 was well in a year if not more, unlike less than 4 months… >> just like when sony got hacked they gave away more in value and way better than this sh!t tbh I could care less about these ten games cuz I’ve played them, beat them and don’t carre for them much… However, I should say the same about Nintendo. What did they give you guys for buying the first DS handheld or for that fact of a matter any of the other ones that had their prices dropped?
Time is irrelevant. They announced the price drop early august (about 5 months). I could have bought it at the end of July. Same with the PS3, I could have purchased it a week or 2 before the announcement when $100 came off.
It appears you and I have differing opinions on “value”. I thought the PSN value was horrible. Considering the whole service was down for a month AND you had to replace your credit card. If I lost my credit card number to a hack like that I would sold off my Sony products. Apparently you consider a few games “da sh!t” for losing your identity/credit card info and a month of no service.
Read my post about Nintendo’s appreciation, these 20 games aren’t meant to refund each system $80.
yes PSN was down however you paid nothing for PSN, unlike 360 and on that note for paying nothing for an online service they gave you 30-Days of PSN, PS3 games and PSP games. Yea it sucked, but however you can’t say much about a free service. And
Yes PSN is free, but also prevents you from playing online (at least from my basic understanding, bare with me, I never played PS3). It’s a matter that it was down and inconveniencing everyone. I’d also like to add they took their sweet time to inform everyone that their credit card info was compromised.
I’d act the same if the Nintendo service was unavailable and they informed me late that my credit card number was taken.
Thank God for friend codes. (Never tought I would say that)
yeah but its better than nothing, no point in being ungrateful, and im pleased my 3DS will be one of the few rare ones with GBA games on, which is unlikely to happen for everyone else in the near future, yay go me!
You’re not paying $80 for these games. You’re paying $80 to be an early adopter. No one twisted your arm to buy the system early.
Yes, they’re worth it. They weren’t part of the “contract” when I bought my 3DS. My 3DS didn’t come with a guarantee signed by Nintendo that I’d get 10 NES games with it. So yes, they really are technically free by definition. It was unexpected gift from Nintendo and not part of the original agreement.
Before this post explodes with those angry about the free games, just wanted to put in my logic. While some of us preferred different games (myself included) or those complaining about getting money instead, Nintendo did not have give us anything.
Price drops happen. Period. Retail sales happen. Period. No need to complain about free games, or who got them. Nintendo made it clear what you had to do (you didn’t have to do it if you didn’t want them), and they didn’t have to offer any games. This is appreciation for buying their product. It does not matter that some people got the discounted price and the games, that was a retail sale to encourage sales of the system, not a slight against anyone. You had a choice when (or if) to purchase the system at whatever price. You could have waited for a drop. Any purchase regret is at your own doing, not at the fault of others, or Nintendo or Wal-Mart/Target.
Retailers can sale price the system, last November on ‘Black Friday’ or the biggest shopping day in America, the DS was less than $100 at Wal-Mart. Did that give you regret? If you are unhappy about what you paid, you a have a choice when to buy a system. While systems rarely get a discount, if you are a serious shopper sensitive to price, you would have waited for this price drop.
Well said Sir.
Thank you!
Well said. People that complain about price drops have nothing to complain about. There are too many greedy whiners out there in this world…and the problem is that they are being rewarded.
I don’t think people are upset over what games are being released necessarily; their upset over spending the extra $80 at all or on games they don’t want. I got my 3DS new for $200 and am looking forward to playing most of these titles, some for the first time. So I have no complaints at all. And you are correct, Nintendo didn’t have to do anything in response to the price drop; just like a weary consumer doesn’t have to walk into the store and buy their next handheld, out of fears this might happen again. Nintendo knows damage control is essential here, as many of the earliest consumers are probably the most loyal to the brand. This is not the demographic Nintendo can afford to piss-off. There is no denying the whole Ambassador program is in direct response to the price drop. Nintendo had to choose what games they are going to put on the system and how many. No doubt these decisions were based in correlation with the amount of the discount. So it’s natural for people to asses these games’ value against the $80 they perceive as spent on these titles. I think the price drop is a positive, and Nintendo is being generous compared to what other companies might hypothetically do in this case.
Essentially, what I’m saying is Nintendo admittedly initially priced the 3DS too high for the sales figures they predicted. Nintendo made a mistake, and they are doing a decent job of fixing the problem. But just because they make a peace offering of games doesn’t mean that people can’t still feel upset over the whole situation. Most of the tension of spending that $80 is now being released because the games are now announced, and the list could of course be better. People perceive this as Nintendo withholding the great games because they know you’ll purchase them later; this undermines the value of the Ambassador program.
But you aren’t spending $80 on games you don’t want, it’s the same thing as Club Nintendo. It’s not a credit, it’s reward. When you purchased Ocarina of Time, you weren’t buying the CD, nor did you have to get the CD. When you buy Skyward Sword, the concert CD is a reward.
As an Ambassador, I don’t have to download games I don’t want. I can accept the full reward, part of it, or none of it. People are seeing it as a credit because they are getting something, instead of nothing, which is what I stated that Nintendo did not have to do this at all. It’s not supposed to be a credit, just a “thank you for purchasing the 3DS”.
That’s where I agree with you, Nintendo did it for the loyal customers that early adopted. All of those things you said about the games and programs is entirely true. The part I disagree is where you talked about $80 for games they don’t want. That is untrue since the games are a reward for your purchase, as I mentioned, you can accept it in full, in part or none. If you don’t like the games, you can’t complain for buying it early, that is the risk of early adopting, prices drop.
They will sell them later to offer them to other customers (and future) so this work they did doesn’t go unrewarded.
You need to realize that if nintendo had given nothing to compensate for the price drop so quickly after launch, I would have gone to court about ti and i’m sure lots of other people would have done the same.
Gone to court about it? $250 was a ridiculous price from the get-go. There is nothing legally preventing anyone from dropping prices. Sure they may lose customers in the future but that is COMMERCIALISM.
What is there to go to court about? You are going to sue (which costs thousands) so you can win $80? You’d have to have a super sleazy lawyer to somehow pull pain & suffering, economic hardship or any of that fancy stuff to be worth anything. You can’t just sue Nintendo for a million dollars because you are out $80.
It’d be like sueing Sony when they dropped the price by $100. Nintendo has the right to charge and change the price of their products.
And if Sony did this we wouldn’t get games at all :P
please, Nintendo should add a “mother 1 + 2” and/or mother 3 for the ambassadors, please send tweets 2 Nintendo!
I support this message.
…give us at least one RPG on the GBA list.
We deserve to play games like that!
tweet @NintendoAmerica and make they know You want #mother #earthbound on the ambassadors gba game list!
I’m praying that they add a Mother game to the list of free GBA games, they were ported…
Yeah we need at least one game of the “mother” series for the ambassadors. Let’s support!!!
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/206373
This is how I feel about this coming in 2 days….
I never had any of these games, so it’ll be fun to play these classics. I’m mainly excited about the 10 Gameboy Advanced games though.
Its take it or leave it. Stop making a fuss over the games!
What on earth is ‘Yoshi’?
It’s the same as “Mario & Yoshi” on the GameBoy. It’s a puzzle game which in my opinion is really pretty uninteresting. My brother got it with his first Gameboy along with Tetris. He hated puzzle games, felt really sorry for him. XD
tetris is awesome though!
I hope that the gba include a golden sun game and pokemon game! That would be awesome. From the games listed for the NES I will only download metroid, yoshi and super mario
I can’t see them adding Pokemon game to the list because of how you’re meant to play and trade with other versions to complete the pokedex etc.
“download from September 1st”
Download FROM September 1st? I hope they won’t be giving one away every other week or something. I need games on my system now, not using it at all right now. :(
It probably means that you can start downloading them on Sept. 1. If you have no access to Internet or weren’t able to get them, then you can get them another day.
Yeah, I think if they would have said “download on September 1”, people might think it was only that one day. Perhaps, “Starting Sept. 1” would have been better. But, I guess I understood what he meant initially.
Really glad I can finally play Zelda 2 and hopefully finally complete every Zelda game ^_^
Just beat ocarina for the first time ever, and now I get to play the first two zeldas for the first time :) and for free!
Oh Joy!!!
It could be worse, but it could also be a lot better.
Cant WAIT Now I can play Metroid & Zelda like @Lost_Caprisun
Metroid! YES!
The lack of Kid Icarus hints to me it will be available in Uprising.
The rest are okay though.
That is exactly what I had in mind.
i cant wait for these but instead of nes golf, id want kid icarus, and starfox but i cant complain
Star Fox was for the SNES right?
i am getting it over duel and i am so extided
Super excited!
It’s not the most interesting list in the world, because while the Legend of Zelda, Zelda 2, Metroid and Mario are good titles, I don’t think enough people really wanted Wrecking Crew, Yoshi or Golf. And the lack of more Mario games and such is upsetting.
Never the less, it’s nice the games are announced, and hopefully the GBA game listing will be much better. Possibly containing Mario Advance 4 and Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland to make up for their NES originals not being included.
Golf is a case of “Nobody wants that s***.” I don’t mind Wrecking Crew, it’s pretty entertaining.
…Zelda, Metroid, Zelda 2, and Ice Climber is where it’s at. Especially Ice Climber.
I’m not much of a complainer but I was really hoping for Kid Icarus. I would’ve loved to be able to play that classic on the go. Also Kirby would have been really good too. But oh well free stuff is free stuff.
Baseball would be better than golf…
Though I probably won’t play some of these, I can’t complain about the free games. I was planning on getting a 3DS when it first came out and I did, so these extra games are just that: extra games.
Thanks, Nintendo!
How can anyone complain about FREE games?
Yeah Metroid!
