GFK Chart Track is reporting that only one million boxed games were sold last month in the United Kingdom, 40.4 per cent lower than June and 33.3 per cent below July 2012. This puts July down as the worst month in UK video game retailer history. However, Nintendo says that it is pleased with the sales of the Nintendo 3DS, which gained market share last month. Here were the best-selling games in the United Kingdom during July.

  1. The Last of Us (Sony)
  2. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition (Microsoft)
  3. Animal Crossing: New Leaf (Nintendo)
  4. FIFA 13 (EA)
  5. Far Cry 3 (Ubisoft)
  6. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros (Nintendo)
  7. Tomb Raider (Square Enix)
  8. Assassin’s Creed III (Ubisoft)
  9. Call of Duty: Black Ops II (Activision)
  10. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Legendary (Bethesda)

  1. It’s either the majority of people in the UK are not really that much of gamers or smartphones are slowly getting more and more popular, or both.

    1. Its just that in the UK 80% of so called “gamers” only buy two or three games a year which are call of duty and Fifa and perhaps battlefield.

      1. Well I’m defo one of the 20% then, bought 3 in the last 2 months alone.

I agree that people are using smartphones more but what’s the point, not that enjoyable.

Also July is mid summer, and a lot more sales are to be had closer to the Christmas period I feel.

  2. It begins. Apple must be stopped before the act of video gaming is completely reduced to a couple of cheap thrills and microtransactions on some nondescript mobile device.

My suggestion? Outlaw Apple. And hell, why not Microsoft while we’re at it?

    1. So…

The Apple Wars might start a lot sooner than I thought…

It’s pleasing news hearing that our Empire is regaining lost territory in the UK while the rest are failing…

Bring it on Apples, we have 1000 potential Indie Tribes joining our Empire and will give us a solid force to counter-attack your evil sneaky invasion!

    2. Microsoft has already had their anti-trust case, with it’s restrictions on them for years. I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple are up next.

  3. It’s funny most of you don’t see this for what it is, more people are buying DIGITAL versions of games. Retail is becoming a thing of the past.
