Nintendo stock has jumped to 15,020 yen per share, which is apparently the biggest surge for the company since July 2011. The shares rise happened today, January 8th, after China temporarily suspended a long-running ban on selling video game consoles. The country outlawed systems like Wii U in an effort to protect young people from the supposed negative influence of video games.
“Nintendo has to explore markets in Asia including China in order to increase its sales and profit,” said Iwai Cosmo Holdings analyst Tomoaki Kawasaki. “China is a promising market, even though there is a risk games will be pirated.”

I believe this is a good thing… China had an 11 year ban on video game consoles and it lifted today. Nintendo doesn’t really produce gory games or games that may get China concerned.

As much as I hate to say it, Nintendo is a dangerous negative influence. At least on 7-year olds. My brother gave our nephew a 2DS for Christmas, and he’s so obsessed with it that he never wants to put it down. He doesn’t even want to go to school because of it (he was crying his eyes out because he didn’t want to go). Makes me realize how “I” was when I was a kid. I was the same way.
The world of Nintendo was so exciting and magical that I never wanted to leave it (what kid wouldn’t want to play Nintendo all day instead of go to school?). I took it to the extremes. I was so sucked in to Nintendo’s magical world that, to this very day, I feel that people are out of their minds when they talk trash about Nintendo (or when they prefer the Crapbox or Gaystation). For me, that’s kinda like talking trash about air, or oxygen.
Nintendo really does have a powerful influence on many.
