NPD: Wedbush Securities January Predictions: PlayStation 4 375k, Xbox One 350k, Wii U 60k

Wedbush Securities has released its predicted numbers ahead of the NPD Group console sales figures for the US. The company expects the PlayStation 4 to narrowly beat the Xbox One. Wedbush also believe that Nintendo’s Wii U console will trawl in last place with only 60,000 units sold. However, it notes that it would still represent a five percent increase year-over-year. We will get the official NPD Group numbers on Thursday, so we will know for sure then.

“In a nutshell, we think that the rapid ramp in sell-through for next generation consoles will cause an unprecedented ramp in next generation software sales, and notwithstanding current generation software sales weakness, we expect overall industry software sales to rebound into positive territory later this year. We believe this rebound is not only sustainable, but we expect it to be dramatic in the back half of the year, with double-digit gains expected.”

    1. still interesting … the Xbox360 is a more expensive purchase.

i bought my WiiU … i want to know what my “other” console should be.

If you had to choose only 2 systems, WiiU would be one of them still.

      1. Save your money, let it get some interest in a 6 month CD or something. Then decide when some good games come out and/or Sony or Microsoft lowers the price.

Or get a computer and use it as a tool (for something other than gaming) and get some games on it.

    2. Remember when I said not to hit the panic button? Well, I take it back….we should start panicking! First, Watchdogs was delayed (cancelled) and now it looks like the other consoles have completely outsold us once again. We’re just not going to make it…The Wii U is not going to make it! “I’m happy because of my exclusives” can only last so long, although it’s working for me right now. I still have a lot of games to buy….but what about the non hardcore Nintendo fans? Nintendo needs to make a statement…announce a Smash Bros spinoff game that’s about racing!

  1. I know vgchartz is quite inaccurate but they predict around 80k WiiU for the US from 1st through 25th January. Add one more 18k or so week and the WiiU would have sold between 80k to 100k in the US in January.

      1. I like how the ppl say the WiiU is weak but fail to admit even the Ps4 and X-One uses about 25% of the power due to devs not knowing how to fully implement it. If you got power, use it, else, i worths nothing

        1. According to some developers they are using much more than that.

          http://www.gamespot.com/forums/system-wars-314159282/resogun-uses-50-of-ps4s-cpu-8gb-gddr5-necessary-29445003/

This guy is carrying on like using 50% of the PS4 CPU for this type of game is a good thing. That’s terrible for a launch title. Whether it is using only 2 cores (because 4 of the 8 are designated for gaming) or all 4 cores designated for gaming that is still way too much power resources used for a game like this.

Nano Assault NEO which looks as good if not better than Resogun only uses one core of the Wii U’s Tri-Core PowerPC750.

You can clearly see the difference between a developer that knows what they are doing and one that does not and how both consoles relate in such terms. If you know what you are doing you can achieve the same results on the Wii U (if not better) as anything you see on the PS4 using far less resources.

As time goes by all three companies will unlock parts of their console reserves to devs allowing for more advanced development, but those who call the Wii U weak are either stupid, trolls, drones, or any combination of the three.

      1. I should have said I was being sarcastic. I hate these stupid estimates from people that think they know what’s going on. Sure they’re analysts, but still human.

  2. Difference between our empire unlike the rest of the garbage is that we actually enjoy playing our games no matter how “poorly” it sells…

                1. Exactly.

                  1. i already predicted they would wait until today to “cancel” … instead, they used some smoke and mirrors.

i predicted they were going to cancel, due to having difficulties porting it … instead, they’re just having difficulties and don’t know what to do.

                2. ih man…
                  its realistic…
