Nintendo of America has been in contact to provide us with an update regarding Nintendo’s YouTube affiliate programme. The Kyoto based company said today that they will split advert revenue proceeds with video creators. Nintendo of America says that more information will be coming soon for YouTube creators.
“Nintendo has been permitting the use of Nintendo copyrighted material in videos on YouTube under appropriate circumstances. Advertisements may accompany those videos, and in keeping with previous policy that revenue is shared between YouTube and Nintendo. In addition, for those who wish to use the material more proactively, we are preparing an affiliate program in which a portion of the advertising profit is given to the creator. Details about this affiliate program will be announced in the future.”

Sigh… No Ninty… just no.
If there’s two things I hate in this world, it’s pedophiles and people who watch “let’s play” videos. I don’t know which of the two is worst.
Well, one rapes young children and one watches commentated gameplay videos. If the answer isn’t abvious which is worse, I recommend you check into a mental hospital for an evaluation, because something’s wrong.
LOL!
I am aware of the sick behavior of both groups but it is still hard to choose. Who the hell finds children attractive but at the same time who the hell watches other people play videogames online.
Have you ever thought the people who watch Let’s Plays are watching them to see if they want to buy it, because they can’t get a copy of the game for themselves, or because they think the Let’s Player?
Exactly
Did you ever think that maybe pedophiles were born that way. It doesn’t make it ok.
Did you ever think maybe a pedifile is watching others play games online?
Just because you don’t understand why people would do something it doesn’t mean it’s a mental disorder – and I’m talking about watching gameplay videos, in case you don’t understand, since you’re putting a crime and a hobby on the same level.
Some people watch others playing games because they are curious about what’s good regarding a certain title, its controls scheme, and it works perfectly as a way to advertise your game for free. There’s nothing wrong in doing so, stop pretending there is.
It’s one thing to watch a review to get the important facts of a game, but it’s something else to watch someone actually play the fucken game. Only mental retardation could explain that behavior. Yes you have to be mentally retarded to watch “let’s play” videos. I don’t care what you think or what excuses you tell me and yourself, there is no other explanation.
Sometimes, if you find the right channel, the commentary alongside the game is really funny. I don’t know if you’ve heard of these people, but one group I watch is Achievement Hunter. They make pretty funny videos, and if you don’t like it, that’s fine. Just don’t insult other people for what they enjoy.
It’s wrong to watch someone else play video games? Have you never visited a friend and watched that person play video games, then?
Yea you watch cause you are waiting your turn.
Because I like to see how people react to certain parts of games and how they feel about the game as a whole as they’re playing it. It’s also like sports. People watch sports, why? Because it’s exciting.
Please don’t compare “let’s play” to sports.
Heroponluigi, you are a fucking idiot…
Grape Ape, so are you
Real great comeback by the way
Thank you
I am imagine you are no older than 16 years old.
There’s seriously something wrong with you, there is no way you can ever compare the two. It’s wrong.
stuff
Read this comment on my phone while I have a lets play video playing on my laptop. Welp, guess that makes me a pedophile!
In movies and television programs, you’re mostly watching actors live fake lives. A video game isn’t all that different. I’m not sure which I hate more, comments like yours or people who have Weegee as their avatar…
Seriously, that’s like asking if its wrong to commit murder or not.
Totally contrast of the subject.
I hope you are joking.
Dang! People here reeeeally can’t stay on topic… I blame the system.
Off topic but seems like Watchdog’s online sever is down.
“Note: Ubisoft’s servers have failed under the launch-day load. If you’re playing today, don’t expect to be able to log in and play online. If you’re playing on the PC version, you may not be able to play at all due to authentication issues.”

Time to command then…

NO YOU AREN’T :D

How to drive Wii U sales? Ads.
they should update 3ds youtube
dat crappy 144p.
Just like your camera and your eyes…
Each eye has 72p…
your videos have crappy resolution lol
Yet you use a 100p camera. Serious, get a wrench from TF2 and hit your camera until it upgrades then hit your own face for obvious reasons.
Just like what that Estoc Zero guy told you on your videos.
Agreed. Most videos are unwatchable in the state that the 3ds streams them in.
This is a step in the right direction, at least.
I personally dont see any problem with them not receiving any money from Nintendo’s products. This cuts in to their profits, people dont have to buy games anymore. Just watch someone play the whole thing. All the while that person is getting paid for it. That is not much different from pirating. Besides. Someone shouldnt make this there on and only job. It should be a hobby.
Why? All those videos do is make me want to buy the game. A movie you can just watch but watching a game is not as satisfying as playing.
That is unless the game doesn’t focus much on game play but instead story, like many JRPGs do.
Maybe but I saw Bravely Default on YouTube and I still bought it. Maybe it’s just me but even with story driven games I still like to play them even if I know the story.
I’ve bought many games because I watched LP’s of them. (Ex: Terraria, Portal 2, Chrono Trigger, Super Meat Boy, and many more that I can’t remember right now…)
If someone watches a whole playthrough of a game played by someone else, they probably weren’t going to buy the game in the first place.
I hearing a lot of complaining about this and sincerely, I don’t get why people are mad that Nintendo is even sparing Youtube let’s players to have some portion of their walkthroughs. Nintendo could just take away all the videos on Youtube and submit copyrights all around but instead they are trying to get into a negotiation with this so all parties could ended up with benefits. No, Nintendo can go to hell…we do not want that. If that’s how youtubers feels then is pretty clear to me that they are pretty selfish.
The problem is, once you buy your game you are the owner and you can do whatever you want with it, and and creators will now get the half of the ad profit they use, imagine, 20 clicks on ads just give you 60 cents……
The copy of that game is yours, of course, but you are making money off that copy that was sold to you by the company who worked on it. I do not have problems with people selling their stuff and doing whatever they want too. However, the problems is the people who created those games for your entertainment. I can’t said I am totally correct though.
You can’t buy a DVD and then broadcast it on a big screen to hundreds of people and make money off it, and you can’t read a book out loud and put ads on the recording and make money off it, and you can’t take a play someone else wrote and perform it without permission… so… The fact that Nintendo created part of the content (the game being broadcast, including the audio and video content), means they should get a portion of any ad revenue.
So you’re basically saying “This is bad but it could be worse, so actually it isn’t bad”.
Why is Nintendo the only one doing such bs? Sony and even Microsoft don’t care about this kinda stuff, hell, they even give you tools to edit/upload/stream your gameplay along with their consoles, so why does Nintendo have to do shitty things like this? They’re basically getting people to advertise their games for FREE with their let’s plays, and instead of just appreciating that, they’re trying to get even more money than they already do from their supporters.
Just because they don’t block the videos and “only” take half of the revenue, doesn’t make it a good thing, not at all. Those youtubers are putting time and effort into recording and editing their videos, even if it might not seem like much to you, so is it really that much to ask for when they want that bit of money they could be getting for doing that? They’re literally doing Nintendo a favor by sharing their gaming experiences with the whole world, but unfortuately, Nintendo doesn’t seem to give a shit.
Nintendo are the only ones that are being selfish here and if you can’t see that, I truly feel sorry for you.
Sony not doing this? seems that you really are blind; Sony has been taking down videos due to copyright infringement for a long time now (specially songs).Microsoft, I can’t said because I haven’t seem one video from them taaken down. So basically you want the youtube players to make money off the game that was created by another group of people? and I’m not totally in the side of Nintendo, but at least Nintendo is trying to negotiate rather than TAKE all the Let’s Play video down and shut down accounts. Would you rather have it like that? I can agree that Let’s players can earn some cash from it but Video Games are not a Full time job.
We are talking about video games right now, not music. There is a difference between taking down or blocking videos because of certain songs being used and taking down/blocking a video because of the footage, unless it’s offensive footage or something of the sorts. I live in Germany and nearly all official videos of songs and videos you can hear songs in are blocked here, because Germany is so damn strict about all that copyright stuff. So I think I have enough knowledge about that kinda stuff.
The only cases of Sony taking down videos wasn’t because of showing gameplay of any of their games or something, if at all, it was because of songs, as you’ve mentioned, or movies, as far as I know.
And yea, that pretty much is the point of let’s plays, making videos of yourself playing a game and preferably making money off them. And there’s no such thing as “at least Nintendo is negotiating instead of taking them down”. Taking the videos down simply because someone made a video of them playing one of their games is wrong to begin with, yes, but what they’re doing now, taking 50% of the revenue, isn’t right either, just because it’s “less wrong” than taking the videos down. Why not just let them make those videos? As I’ve said in my previous comment, they’re literally getting free advertisement from those videos for their own games.
And what’s so wrong about people making money off making videos of video games? It’s not like they’re taking the money Nintendo made by developing + selling those games. Those people actually put a lot of time and effort into those videos, so they very well deserve to get the money. It’s not like they’re making $60 per view or anything. And if I buy a game, shouldn’t I be allowed to do what I want with it, as long as it isn’t reproducing the game or whatever? Why is it so bad to want to make a video of how one plays and experiences a game, to share it with other people and even entertain them, and get some extra cash for having invested time+effort into it?
And video games aren’t a full time job? The world’s most subscribed youtuber would like to have a word with you, and many other people who actually do live off of making let’s plays as well.
Music IS PART OF A VIDEO GAME dude, the soundtrack is part of the game play and the game itself, therefore is part of the video content. Sorry to heard that Germany had this rules but that’s something we are starting to have in America (and we are trying to prevent too). What kind of gamer thinks that the point for Let’s Play is to earn money? that really is a disgusting way of thinking. The main point is to have fun and share your experiences, not play because you will earn money from it. Again, I am not going all against the idea of making money from your let’s play, the problem is the people who created that content for you, you own a copy of their work. Of course, You have to speak to the developers to understand what’s their problem with that. Regarding the full time job, I personally don’t agree that is a full-time job, There’s a world outside the computer, you know and there’s actual people who are doing their best to get a full-time job without having to be attached to a computer screen every time. I admire those let’s players time a dedication, but I feel that the most subscribed Youtuber is leading an wrong example of a full-time job.
The kind of music you hear in video games is different than what you listen to in your free time, It’s hard to describe, I guess.
And I never said the main point of let’s plays is making money, I said PREFERABLY make money with it. I have said that those who make gameplay videos do it to entertain others and share their experiences, so I’m not really sure why you’re twisting my words now.
I doubt any developer has any problems with footage of the game they have worked on being shared with the whole world, wouldn’t they want as many people as possible to see their work and what they have created? It’s not like you’re making the game accessible for everyone when you upload a video on Youtube or whatever, they would still have to buy it if they want to fully experience and enjoy the game. So what’s so wrong about sharing the experiences you are having with something others have created and developed for everyone? You still buy the game, and so does everyone else who wants it. You’re not making the ones who own that work lose any money or anything, on the contrary, you’re advertising their game and make other people buy and play it too, so what’s the problem?
And you seem to forget that a lot of jobs, other than making videos of games, are being done in front of the computer, so I don’t see an issue there. I also don’t see why that most subscribed youtuber is leading a wrong example of a full-time job, he’s basically living the dream of lots of people, making money with what he loves: video games. It may seem like an easy thing to do, but it isn’t. He has to record and edit videos pretty much every single day, and a bunch of hours go into that. Lots of work goes into a video of 10-15 minutes and I can imagine that having to do that every single day can get really exhausting at times. So calling it a wrong example is kind of rude, in my opinion. I wouldn’t call myself a big fan of that very youtuber, but I have lots of respect for what he’s doing.
Actually, RoosterTeeth has turned it into a full-time job
Nintendo lets you record and edit videos of Mario Kart and upload them directly to Youtube. Also you can’t put The Dark Knight on Youtube just cause you bought the Blu-Ray, even if you talk over it a bit and comment and add personality. Even MST3K paid rights fees to the movies they MST3K’d, that’s why they used old crappy movies with cheap rights fees.
The thing with movies and music is, watching/listening is the purpose of buying them, so if someone uploads a song or a movie, it takes away the reason for everyone to go buy it themselves, since they can simply watch/listen to it for free. Video games, on the other hand, have to be played to be fully enjoyed and experienced. Watching someone else play isn’t the same as playing yourself. In video games, you get choices and have an individual way of playing, which isn’t the case in music and movies. It’s hard to find a let’s player who will play a game exactly the same way as you would.
So I think there’s a bit of a difference between streaming video games and movies/music.
Fuckin youtube kids
i stop caring about caring about nintendo lets players. lol grown man playing nintendo games on youtube. no wounder you dont see redbrand, ghostrobo or mediacows playing the wii u. no people has time to watch people play generic mario and zelda games. its why i cant take cobernermani456 and hos fellow drones seriously.
yep. while you spend your time gaming on youtube as well… thats really sad.
Obviously you want to watch these so called games like Mass Effect 3 which is basically one big movie…
I watched like half the game by now on one of these videos and about 80% of the game is made up by cinematics…
What a boring waste of resources…
Oh stop damage controlling, you know dam full well its not true…and if it is, prove it. Show me one good gamer like shokio that will say the same, be warned, I will check out everything of the guy or girl of your choosing, I find too many hate, then invalid, if I find him balance, then I’d say you got an argument meaning you stated true. Now go, you got the rest of the day to prove to me.
I was actually agreeing with you somewhat until you brought up other let’s players. So what, grown men playing other games for revenue makes it better because they are not Nintendo games? Video games, regardless of how they are rated, are played by people of all age groups. Just go online for most Xbox games. A video game’s content doesn’t signify maturity on the part of the player. At its core, video games are toys. Playing Mario Kart as oppose to Forza doesn’t make you any less a man. I question your maturity though, insecure about playing a Mario game and yet obsessed over Mynintendonews.

Oh look, it’s Ghostrobo and he’s absolutly not playing the WiiU!
You fucking idiot!
only retards play narutard games on youtube…oh wait, you are one of those lol
sasori burned again, lol !
and you are a fat cow that makes hate videos on youtube!
Well looks who waste its pathetic life bitching at something material.
Look at which grown ass kidult who has no life.
Says a person who did a New Super Mario Bros. Wii Let’s Play less than two years ago.
This is still bad publicity for Nintendo. How I’d this hurting them? Especially with two of their biggest franchise entries coming out this year for the Wii u, they could use the publicity…
I think it’s fair. Surprised other companies aren’t doing it.
Google should just stop paying Ad money to youtubers. I’m sure many viewers would be far happier seeing less Ads in videos. Banner Ads, Flash Ads, and separate full Ad videos would be much better for the viewers than having to wait for Ads until we can finally watch a video.
Lol i see yYouTube just fine on my 3DS the HQ is perfect I watch TFS dragon ball z
Since when was game videos copyrighted and not allowed? Back in the day, I used to make playthrough and review videos etc. on YouTube all the time. My whole channel was based mostly on games. I never had any copyright infringement notices from any of my videos. This was back before Google Plus came along and ruined YouTube.
And btw, I never made a single dollar on any of my videos I once had on YouTube. Nor did I ever expect to. I did it because I loved doing it. In fact, I never even knew I could possibly make money on YouTube.
That’s the point. It becomes a copyright issue once you decide to try to make add revenue off the games without consent.
I see……
Then that whole copyright mess is Google’s fault and Nintendo is trying to get them to fix it because its trampling their copyright and its driving them crazy and Nintendo isn’t the only industry over this.
Yet, I don’t understand why is it Nintendo is the only one getting the BS negativity over this when there’s a law that makes this copyright claim crystal clear.
Everybody is expecting to make money they don’t deserve by taking credit of one’s content and when somebody sensible puts an end to it, they lose their minds. And when Nintendo makes a deal to share half of such revenues, they still get mad. Anybody and everybody questioning Nintendo over this is obviously goddamn selfish and stupid.
What the gaming community started off on the early days, now we got everyone trying to make Lets Play for the cash in and it seems that Nintendo will not have that, which I don’t 100% agree with but understand.
people are really getting mad about this? lmao
the games are Nintendo’s intellectual property… whether you own the game doesn’t mean anything. they could be shutting down accounts left and right if they really wanted to lol
plus, if you don’t want to watch ads in the first place then download an ad blocker or smth. |: some of you are ridiculous.
Let’s Plays were never about the money. People who make LP’s never did so thinking they were going to make money. They made them becouse they were fun to make. They enjoyed making them, and sharing thier experience. If it’s just all about the money now, I really don’t want anything to do with it.
This^
Amen to that.
Agreed.
This is possibly the most intelligent comment on this whole website.
In 2014, gamers don’t play games. We watch other people play games whilst making lame jokes and overreacting to trivial situations. We then buy these games so we can neglect playing them but rather watch more videos of people playing games.
