Hayashi Wanted To Make Hyrule Warriors More Like Traditional Zelda, Miyamoto Said No

Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has revealed that Koei Tecmo’s Yosuke Hayashi wanted to make Hyrule Warriors closer to a traditional Zelda title rather than a Dynasty Warriors game. However, Aonuma said Miyamoto put a stop to this and said that this shouldn’t be the case.

”At first, when Hayashi-san approached me, he wanted to make this title closer to a Zelda game than a Dynasty Warriors game — that extended to having boss battles in the dungeons and [having] certain characters in the game. However, Mr. Miyamoto came along and up-ended the tea table, saying, “No, that should not be the case. What we’re doing here is grafting Zelda onto the Dynasty Warriors experience.” It was a reversal of the original proposal from Hayashi-san, which was adding elements of Dynasty Warriors onto the Zelda franchise. It ended up being the other way around based on Miyamoto’s direction.”

– Nintendo’s Eiji Aonuma

”This relates a bit to when Mr. Miyamoto stepped in to overturn the tea table. It was really trying to strike that balance of making a game that Zelda fans will enjoy that is different from a typical Zelda game, that has enough elements that people will enjoy but also not losing Zelda fans. We ourselves are Zelda fans as well, so we had to ask ourselves the question of what is it that makes a Zelda game, and how many of those elements do we need to include. Up until the very end, we kept adding different elements to the game until we struck a balance that we were happy with.”

    1. What a strange decision. From what I’ve been seeing and playing, this game is a carbon copy of every other DW game with Zelda stuff painted over. Not exactly the “perfect balance” which people wanted

      1. No shit it’s just miyamoto fucking things over again with a no you can’t do that, but we should make wii music. ahhhh!!!

        1. But personally to me it’s like 90% DW and 10% Zelda. I agree there should be a bigger focus on DW, but I feel that they should’ve incorporated more Zelda features in the crossover.

  1. Miyamoto sure says no to a lot of things… Probably for the best in this case, as it otherwise would be just a Zelda game with a lot of fighting. Would still like to see certain Zelda characters in the story!

    1. Well yeah but when he’s wrong we get Paper Mario Sticker Star and a Luigi’s Mansion game that could have been soooo much better. Oh well at least we didn’t get Super Mario Unleashed with Mario as a were-koopa.

          1. I don’t think so, I see the spark he still shares…he just needs to accept the day and age, continue his beliiefs and share what saved the gaming community and one day many can finally agree that gaming is only what it is, a game no matter who or what kind of gamer you are. Don’t forget, dip shits still rage war, but they play other systems to have fun, they understand what it means to have that fun from your rivals. To me, THEY are the true gamers. I usually don’t say that for all three unless I see a reason too, “it just takes one to make many believe, once its gone and people forget, then it will be the end of the show. No one should ever forget what that one can bring into many lives”.

  2. IT’S NOT A ZELDA GAME WITH DYNASTY WARRIORS ELEMENTS- IT’S A DYNASTY WARRIORS GAME WITH ZELDA ELEMENTS!!!

    (ノ ゜Д゜)ノ ︵ ┻━┻

      1. Good i hope that trash fails. Microsoft adds nothing worthwhile besides having a bunch of fatasses support that shitty company that fucks them over every five seconds with nothing special about it’s stupid division.

  3. The point of this exercise is not to sell Dynasty Warriors fans on Zelda– everyone already loves Zelda! The point is to sell Nintendo fans on Dynasty Warriors. Nintendo fans are very elitist when it comes to third-party games, and for good reason; Nintendo consoles are the only ones where you can buy first party only and that will still be enough! I probably never would’ve glanced at Dynasty Warriors if they hadn’t made this, and now I’m super psyched for its release!

    1. I personally didn’t know about the Warriors franchise before the December Direct. But after watching it, I went out and bought WO3H

          1. Yeah? Developed by Sony Japan, which is notorious for consistently producing the worst first party titles among the likes of Naughty Dog and Santa Monica? If Knack is the only excuse you can think of, then it seems you’re like Nintendo. Unable to produce original content.

            1. I know your comment wasn’t directed at me, Shuhei, but Splatoon looks to be revamping the 3rd person shooter genre. And even though Project Giant Robot and Project Guard look boring and gimmicky- they are the epithet of “original content.” And we’ll see what they do with that Project Steam and new Zelda. Nintendo certainly beats Microsoft and Sony when it comes to making something original. But, still, all of the major developers are nowhere near as creative as they were 15-25 years ago.

              1. Agreed. Splatoon + Project Steam are really promising, which is a good start, but Nintendo needs to focus more on these type of games. As long as they can do that, then I’m happy with them

            2. Moron, have you missed their 2014 E3? I see plenty of new content coming. Of yeah I forgot, you’re still glued to that idiotic notion of buying a gimped PC box merely for downgraded PC-like experience *clears throat* Xbox.

              1. You actually think I like Xbox??? After so long arguing with a person like you, it seems like you’re truly hopeless. I won’t bother arguing with you, anything I ever say won’t go to your thick Nintendo skull

                    1. By replying in butthurt fashion? XD If that’s your definition of people “winning arguments”, then you need to give ASSassin’s Greed a long break and socialize more. lol

                      1. It’s not just Assassin’s Creed. I mainly play third party games. I gave you that huge list of PS4 games I wanted and you said half of them don’t interest you. That’s kinda bias to be honest. :P

                        1. What I mean is half of them being either I never tried before nor interested or those I have tried and don’t like or not gonna waste my money on the wrong type of companies. That was it. Its not bias if I don’t like nor want to touch specific games. If were to say I hate EA games but get caught dead playing them and hiding a collection, that’s biased.

                1. I can’t think of any other disappointments on the PS4 other than Knack, but then again there aren’t that many first party games on PS4.

            3. At this point myamoto is just holding things back, giving him power outside of being a developer was the worst thing that could of happened, kinda like iwata?

      1. Jeeze this guy makes dumbass decisions. He shouldn’t have the power to say simply yes or no to any game. He should just be a part of his teams and that’s it. Let’s see sticker star and luigis mansion dark moon both should have been way better but he fucking messed it up holding the game back by stupid decisions because he has power.

Honestly hyrule warriors isn’t any different form any dynasty warriors game, it will be the same repetitive shit, but i could see all the new innovation and gameplay if this was just a zelda game. It would probably be that fresh air the franchise so desperately needs.

This guy should just focus on developing games and not saying yes or no it doesn’t work out, just like iwata and reggie.

        1. You should just stop ‘cuz you’re a hypocrite, aren’t you always criticizing lack of 3rd party support and Nintendo rehashes? Yet, here you are asking criticizing the rejection of a re-skinned zelda game (rehash) for a re-skinned third party game.
Stop whinning you cry baby (again it shows your hypocrisy, you call ninty fans as babies, but you always whine like one when you see something you don’t like.)

      2. Miyamoto still work on game his not just a yes or no man he helps them with making the games and help with development as well and his no where near washed up chill with that he not a legend for nothing

          1. The legend that died away was nintendo, the wiitards are damage controlling a c list nintendo and are fine with all there shitty ways/decisions.

                1. You guys are blind. I can’t believe that you both are also overlooking a lot of other things wrong with the other companies besides Nintendo…well one is anyways. The other is being a little bitch like he was back then.

                    1. Lol I call it Nintendo all the time. Some people here think I hate them, but that’s not true. Otherwise, I wouldn’t own a 3DS and a Wii U.

                  1. Yes, it is “always about Nintendo”. They seem to be losing touch and simply aren’t as good as they used to be. They keep on making mistakes over and over again and people just keep accepting it. Just because Xbox has made mistakes doesn’t mean you can ignore what Nintendo is doing either. Despite all of the mistakes over there, at least they managed to get third party games. Something that Nintendo has ALWAYS had a problem with. I can’t think of one Wii U game that even comes close to their old games like Zelda Ocarina of Time. It’s like they aren’t even trying anymore. They tried to ride off the success with the Wii and it didn’t work. Nintendo keeps trying to be in their own little world while the rest of the competition is trying to move forward. Nintendo doesn’t care about it though. They just give their new 2012 console slightly better 2005 360 specs and then force you to use a controller you may or may not like. If Nintendo isn’t going to try anymore, the least they can do is make their systems powerful enough so third parties can make new games. But they messed that up too.

                    1. And does it look like I ignore them? Because the depressing truth is you claim to see the faults of others and 3rd parties but still give them money which is also saying that you’re doing the same shit, just on the other side of the line. Like what I always say: Hypocrites don’t know they’re hypocrite much like narcissists. You say Nintendo and fans are the gullible ones when you have intentionally ignored the other side who have done worse..I mean, A LOT worse.

And basically everything you’re saying now is exactly what I’m saying about 3rd parties except I know its true and I don’t condone my own favorite brand or company of their faults either.

And here you go with the power = support excuse as proven by past console generations that it doesn’t entirely work. If you produce crap on powerful systems, power doesn’t mean shit anymore. Its mainly about efficiency and creativity of products. You have, once again, drown your intelligence into their primitive way of thinking. This is all an unwise decision for them in the long run because they’re underestimating the future.

                      1. It’s not about all that. LOL. It’s about games. And the Wii U is missing tons and tons of games that I’d like to play. Yeah, there are exclusives, but so what? We get exclusives every year from Nintendo. And like I said before, Nintendo games aren’t as good as they used to be and you can get a similar experience by playing an older console like Gamecube. Third party is the life and death of a console. Why do you think the 360 has survived so long? The Wii basically died like 5 years ago for to having zero third party support because nobody wanted to make games for it anymore and we are basically seeing that happen again except way earlier this time with the Wii U. All I want are my games. Then I won’t complain any longer. And no, not JUST NINTENDO games. I’m talking about all the great third party games being released every year.

                        1. You know, you are so blind to bashing the so called brand you like and bringing up false conclusions about the past and present.

First of all, Nintendo as a company has its ups and downs. Sometimes some games they make (Metroid: Other fucking M) doesn’t go well as they hoped but that’s part of the success story of any firm. There will be some faults and failures at times and you act like the Nintendo games now aren’t as great which you’re only half correct but also biased. Mario 3D World is a good game even though its not Galaxy 3 or Sunshine 2. Mario Kart 8 is great but has its drawbacks mostly from Battle Mode being changed into the most pointless version of all. Smash Bros. 4 will be bigger and better than Brawl I assure you. Bayonetta 2, Devil’s Third, Zelda Wii U sounds a lot more promising than any Nintendo games in recent years.

Now, saying Wii doesn’t have 3rd party support is pure BS. Have you seen the Wii’s game shelves in stores? It has shittons of 3rd party games, even x20 more than Wii U has right now so where the hell did you get this little fairy tale from is beyond me. :/ Wii was slowly losing steam around late 2010 to 2011 and that wasn’t 5 years ago exactly. lol The reason most 3rd party games didn’t work there was because of the hardware limitations and to them would cost some favorable sales for consumers on Wii BUT with the exception of COD on Wii which did great on the system because of the controls adding a more natural experience and speaking of hardware, that didn’t stop Nintendo from unleashing its killer app Super Mario Galaxy which most said it looked almost as good as a 360 title and even Metroid Prime 3 and Conduit 1 was as equality great in visuals and gameplay. :)

BTW, did you read that article I shared in the link?

                          1. You know darn well what I meant by “third party”. I’m not talking about those pathetic gimped ports and shovelware. I’m talking about being able to get near the same experience you would be able to get by playing the game on a PS3 or a 360. And other games as people like to call them, “AAA” games. Like GTA V for example. Where is that on a Nintendo console? This is exactly what I’m talking about. Nintendo isn’t trying to get those types of games anymore and they keep focusing on the wrong things. They should be getting as many devs on their system as possible, not trying to do it alone! And as for the Nintendo games, I have not played not one Wii U game that even comes close to the brilliance of their older games. And I’m pretty sure you do recall me saying I don’t even really like playing old games, so that’s really saying something.

                            1. Okay. What else have they exactly done wrong with third parties besides the system marketing flop? I’m not sure why GTA5 ain’t on the system even though Reggie said he would love the game to be on it but since Iwata is in charge of all branches, it gonna affect all regions.

And what brilliance are you talking about? lol All I see as a majority on those consoles are shooters after shooters after more fucking shooters with boring, stale ass realism graphics as their means to show off bleeding edge graphics that still looks nothing like the realism you see around you, outside of the virtual world you’re glued to. Nothing creative comes out of those games and in fact, its the only type of games those lazy asshats at 3rd parties make because, again, they want an easy way out to make money from excuses for gamers, who are mostly damaged kids, who only “click” to games with guns, destruction, gore and even tits. lol I hardly see anything that even comes close to being as original or creative as some of Nintendo’s work for that matter. Its like Michael Bay himself has invaded the gaming world with his explosive/racist/pervert ego influence out of his movies and BTW, half of those “brilliant” games are also mostly expensive interactive CGI movies and its the truth. Ask yourself why those games loses value and interests fairly quickly compare to Nintendo games because the answer is quite a simple and shocking one.

                    2. Not even close idiot. You just gave a vague statement of just made of bullshit of something you weren’t even specific about, so it can just be passed off as bullshit made up because no one knows what you are talking about or if its just in your retarded head.

                2. Well, I’m glad. I’ve played Zelda games before. I’ve never played a Dynasty Warriors game before. I think that is the case for most Zelda fans too.

                  1. Eh- they are certainly nothing to write home about. There are plenty of boss-heavy 3rd person action games that outclass it.
But I remain openly optimistic for Hyrule Warriors. At least it has couch co-op and a pretty impressive roster of characters/weapons/combos.

                    1. What would be the point of making Hyrule Warriors if it was ust another Zelda game anyway… At thqat point, you might as well just.. make it a new Zelda game lol!

But we are getting one of those in 2015! So I’d rather have something different.

                3. Thank god, With Zelda wii u on the way there would be no real point and I always like having beloved franchises have a nice change for once

                4. Not being that guy, but didn’t before they said they were looking for spin off for franchise, so its kinda of duh moment, they wouldn’t want for the game. I played the demo at target, it was actually fun, not best thing ever, but fun. It does take some elements from zelda to expand on somethings. I’m okay with the game, its good way to give fan service in different way.

                5. I do agree that this decsion is strange and could’ve benefit Hyrule Aarriors for being a temporary Zelda gap fill until the next game hits the system and I was hoping for Hyrule Warriors to have those elements to keep me interested. But nope. I rather get Bayonetta 2 which has similar gameplay but seems more exciting and has..drumroll…ONLINE.

                      1. I agree that online would’ve been great, but I still think it makes no sense to suddenly not want it anymore just because it isn’t there…

                          1. You know, I’m starting to get really tired of no third party games… I’m thinking of completely stopping buying Nintendo games until I get a PC. It’s driving me insane.

                                      1. Only reason I would ever want a Gameboy Advance is for Pokemon Sapphire but we got a remake now so who cares? XD

                                        1. Just Pokemon? XD What about Kirby Amazing Mirror, Metroid Fusion, Zelda: Minish Cap, Yoshi’s Island/Bros. 2/3 and World ports, Mario Kart, Golden Sun, anything else? XD You missed so much just to play one freaking game which is awesome too.

                      2. Lord Sasori has declared the following overated..

                        1. MLK
                        2. Zelda Hyrule Warriors
                        3. That little nasty thing that Valve Glados does. You know.. that thing…

                        1. Repent Vile Church of Lord Farquad in disguise, the only thing overrated is your Anti-Shrek in a Sasori disguise. Bathe yourselves in the one and only one true lord Shrek’s onion juice of love and shun the evil midget in disguise! Repent!

                          Shrek is love…
                          Shrek is life…

                      3. Very good call by Mr Miyamoto. This is first and foremost a Dynasty Warriors game. It needs to be kept safely in the realms of spin-off. I would certainly not trust Tecmo with a real Zelda game.

                      4. I think i’m the only one who got tired of Miyamoto (besides the trolls). Like the 2 games he showed us for the Wii U (project robot and the other project game) were mediocre at best. And the way star fox U looks seems alittle bit off for me. He lost his touch many years ago and I don’t even think he should be someone that’s higher up in Nintendo.

                        1. Well to be honest we haven’t seen anything really for star fox, He also lead to creation of splatoon( he personally isn’t the creator of p robot, I belive he just helped a team of smaller devs) The other game is believed to be apart of star fox I believe. I won’t lie he has mad mistakes( sticker star, dark moon(only the bosses really to my knowledge) and few other things.) but he did had great influence in pikmin 3 (minus the online play) the game was pretty damn fun. He has been working on star fox since wii I do hope he brings it back to what made it great.

                      5. For a Nintendo site there sure are a lot of non Nintendo guys leading the comments section to being pretty near useless…

                      7. Good. I’m glad Miyamoto told them no. I’ve been wanting to use Link in a game like this since playing Samurai Warriors Chronicles for my 3DS back when I got one for the first time. It’s funny how people are crying about how this game will have repetitive gameplay as a Dynasty Warriors centric game because it won’t have gameplay that is just as much as repetitive as Zelda’s gameplay. xD
