The latest edition of Japanese gaming publication Famitsu reveals the games that Japanese consumers are most looking forward to. Unsurprisingly Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, which was released this weekend in Japan, tops the list followed by Final Fantasy XV. Here’s the most wanted games in Japan this week.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is pretty low on the list. I doubt Nintendo is going to get any significant boost in hardware sales this holiday season. I hate to say it but after Black Friday, the Xbox One might outsell the Wii U in global sales. Japan is just a dead market for console gaming. Nintendo should have focused on the Western market and tried to get some Western developed third party exclusives. Imagine the internet wars if GTA V was an exclusive like the early rumors suggested.

Well only one Wii U game on there, that’s a bad sign. The fact that it’s not in the top three is not good news in turns of it shifting significant amounts of hardware units. So 10th is pretty low for what Nintendo needs Smash Bros. to do over there in Japan.

Monster Hunter = Japan’s FIFA
Call of Duty (or any other popular first person shooter game) = US’s FIFA (still has that too though…)

Japan is the only country where rpg’s are still in high demand. Here in the west all everybody wants is COD type grey shooters. You could take a screenshot of each game, (COD, Battlefield, Titanfall, Wolfenstein, Bioshock, etc. etc.) and mix them together, and you would not be able to tell which screenshot goes to which game. They would all look the same. Developers are selling you the same game over and over again, and people still by them up.
