Aonuma Talks About Bringing The Zelda Majora’s Mask Experience To Handheld

The Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma recently had the chance to sit down with Games Master magazine to talk about the forthcoming Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask for the Nintendo 3DS. Aonuma was asked by the publication about the benefits of bringing the acclaimed game to a portable console. Here’s what he had to say.

When the game was launched, I believed that the real purpose was for players to overcome this pressure and experience a sense of achievement. On a portable console, users don’t have to choose when or where they play, they can keep on playing the game whenever they want. I think this should allow all users to enjoy that special sense of achievement.

sense of achievement for playing a handle version of a n64 game….. oh well the nintendo logic as usual.

    1. Nintendo should’ve remade this shit for the Wii U. Doesn’t really make sense to remake home console games for handhelds. What, you sit on the fucking train and beat a temple or something? No. The entire point of handhelds is that they are made for short play sessions. Not to mention that remaking a game for a system that is around a generation more powerful than the original system it was on makes no sense. The graphics are 2 gens outdated already and the biggest point of remakes is to remaster the fucking graphics.

      1. 100% Disagree. I think its per-fekt. I play my hand held as a console. I say bring it on until new Zelda drops.

          1. temper temper. sounds like someone doesnt have a 3ds? either way i doubt they want to use all that man power to remake that whole game in the wii u when they’re currently using their best people for a zelda game on the ACTUAL wii u console game. be serious now. do you really think about the requirements to do what it is u are saying? or the situation at hand? the profit?
3ds is in way more hands than the wii u right now. Even smash4/mk8 didnt increase sales enough to make a remake game to come on console a more beneficial decision than releasing on 3ds where it could sale much better. THey’re doing it right.

            1. Actually I have a 3DS. No one here is talking about profit. I’m talking about the remake and the sense to remake games on the most powerful platform.

Who’s the one not accepting any other opinion but his own misguided ones as always?…

                Pathetic ape troll…

              2. It’s not the best use of resources. We want new games on our home console, remaking for 3ds is much simpler, takes less time, and is less costly. Why upgrade graphics when you can make a whole new game? Wind Waker HD is nice to have and all, but it was the only thing Nintendo could do at the time to save face. Launched with a lot of criticism it is still a great addition to the library, but not what fans wanted.

                1. With Windwaker HD, at least you already had an existing game with spacious dungeons and large areas to explore so Nintendo didn’t have to deal with the inevitable problem that they’d have with a smaller game like OofT and Majora’s Mask. That problem is how either everyone would be bitching about the game being too close to the original (not making worthwhile use of an HD machine) or bitching about too many changes being made to the original so that it was ruined because this or that experience was missing. With 3ds it’s easy, just upgrade the graphics: despite the low resolution, 3ds has a glorious graphical presentation that amazes me every time I play it (my vision better than 20/20 for your reference).

                2. Majora’s Mask 3D and OoT 3D aren’t made by the Zelda team, they were made by Grezzo. These games should have the best possible treatment, not “oh, we should cut corners so that they sell just because we remade them at all”, fuck that shit. Remakes should celebrate the fucking masterpieces that they are.

Wind Waker HD was also a fucking disgrace. Almost everything reused and just a new lighting engine.

Sadly, most people hated Majora’s Mask because of the challenge. lol Now we have people bitching about how Zelda games are too easy. I guess some of these same people didn’t realize that maybe their bitching about the difficulty of Majora’s Mask is what led to the Zelda games of today being easy. lol Just think about it. After Majora’s Mask, nearly every Legend of Zelda game SINCE has been pretty much on the easy side: Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Minish Cap, Four Swords, Four Swords Adventures, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, Skyward Sword, & Link Between Worlds. Funny how that works, right?
