An incredibly rare factory sealed NES title is reaching bids of up to $100,000 on eBay. Stadium Events – which was released in 1987 for the NES – is known as one of the rarest games on the platform, due to its limited production run. Owned by a former Nintendo employee, the factory sealed edition of Stadium Events was popped on eBay last week, with an initial opening bid of $5,000. Though bidding concludes on January 15, the game is currently sitting at $99,850 from 81 bids.
In 2010, the NES game surfaced as part of an eBay auction for a NES console and sold for $13,105. And just two weeks later, another copy of Stadium Events was auctioned off, closing at a remarkable $41,300. Speaking to GameSpot, the owner said he felt it was “the right time” to sell having left Nintendo in 2012. He added:
“While working at Nintendo games are often available to employees at end of life cycles. I did not realize the value until 2011, when a story came out about this game being sold on eBay for $44,000. I told my wife ‘I know I have that game.’ I collect a lot of different items, so after looking through several boxes I found it! Since I was still working for Nintendo I could not sell this item for profit, which is a smart company policy. When I left in 2012, it was possible for me to sell this game.”

Nice, kind of like a retirement bonus.
Extremely unlikely the winning bidder will pay.
unless that game grants me immortality, I would never spend anywhere near that much for it. even if I was filthy rich.
Haha, no, really, people DO buy stuff like this. You think they wouldn’t pay, well you’d be surprised how many people are willing to.
damn! my bid of 1 dollar was defeated!
Reblogged this on trafalgarlaw1986 and commented:
Wer von euch will mitbieten? :D
Our ancient version of Wii Fit…
Indeed, it had stupid “dance” rug too.
I got to play this once I think at my cousins and it was pretty cool, I was of course a little kid so I can’t say if it holds up today, but for it’s time it’s pretty awesome I would say.
Only a person clinically insane (and rich) would ever pay that much for ANY game. Even as a collector, I find that completely retarded. Especially for World Class Track Meet (same game). Ugh!
Seriously now, I do have a sealed copy of this game… somewhere. However, it is JPN-version. I wonder if it would sell for anything more than $30 at eBay.
I mean, if with a copy of a game I barely remember its existence I can buy a brand new game for my 3DS, then I’m so selling it.
