  1. It’s about time!!! I’ve been waiting forever to download these games and have been constantly emailing Nintendo and nagging them to put the Donkey Kong Country games back on VC. Finally!!!!

    1. I knew you’d like this news lol. And yea the original 2 (never played 3, fuck kiddy kong) are definitely better than returns and tropical freeze but I still thought those two were both really good games. But nowhere near the other two nor as classic.

      1. Agreed. Didn’t bother with 3 since there was no diddy or donkey kong. There was a raft like what? And kiddy kong….. Whut? Lol

          1. 3 is the worst in the series, but doesn’t mean it’s bad at all. You really should play it if you want the last bit of classic Donkey Kong Country.

One really sucky thing though, is that the music is not even near legendary like the last 2 games. (unless you manage to get the superior GBA version)

            1. I was afraid of that with the music lol. The first two have some of my favorite game tunes ever, and they feel more like home than any other. Where you been by the way lol haven’t seen you since smash 3ds

              1. Whoa whoa whoa…listen, I know 3 isn’t the most appealing. BUT it has some of the best level design in the series. Remember in the first one if you lost Diddy it really sucked cause Donkey couldn’t move as well? Well, 2 was kind of easier because Dixie and Diddy could both run the show, however, in 3 they went back to 1 good 1 bad. Adds challenge.

They added some strange things, but I’m tellin ya, foe the levels alone it’s up there. Definitely play it now if you never have.

                1. True that, and honestly I never had those issues cause I have a twin so we beat them both together lol. I’m probably gonna play it just to finish the series. And I hear it has some of the best level design, though I’ll be stubborn and deny it even if I play and realize it’s true lol.

              2. Not much cool was happening here with Nintendo for while, then I got my WiiU back with Smash U and Mario Kart 8, which is so fun I pretty much have to force myself to go on the internet now :P

  2. It’s about fucking time!
    Umm… I got nothin’.

I’ll probably download Ironfall…God knows when I’ll have time to play with MH4 & MM… Ugh.

Thanks for posting the downloads as always MNN! Live having ONE place to get my gaming news.

  3. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cant wait to play these with a controller and not a ####ing keyboard, and in HD,NICE!

        1. Well yea that’s a plus, I thought you meant though like they redid them in HD lol. This video they look pretty smooth so I’ll be happy if it looks this good

    1. EShop downloads are available in the US every thursday at 9am Pacific, 12pm noon EST. Except for Friday releases.

    1. You rebuy them for like $1.50 and get the Wii U version. That’s how old wii VC games that get Wii U vc releases act. Since you already bought it they discount it so you can play the gamepad and pro controller and such.

    1. It was because Rare worked on DK and the DK graphics and art for the N64 were identical to the Banjo Kazooie graphics and artstyle.

They put two and two together, but yeah, it is kind of funny. Microsoft thinking they could own a Nintendo IP :P

      1. Well come to think of it, Nintendo only had Donkey Kong. Rare was the ones who made Diddy Kong, dixie, lanky, chunky, candy, kremelings etc. So I can understand if they thought they owned them.

    1. Phenomenal games, I would even go as far and say that these were the SNES’s best sidescrollers. Yes, even better than Super Mario World.

      1. Ridley, the Angel of Death

For me, Super Mario World was the best when it came to the gameplay while the DKC games had the best music. Unlike DKC which sometimes goes from challenging to downright “Oh my god! Fuck this game! *comes back to it later to cool down from the anger of having to repeat the level over because you died of that one horrible level design time & time again because the game does not cool down to give you a breather level*, Super Mario World had the hard stuff spread out so there was room to breathe at certain points.

        1. haha yes, I freaking loved those levels. Dont get me wrong, I love Super Mario World, but the game just felt to easy, I could turn the game on on any given day and pass it within a few hours, but DKC still give me a challenge. I wouldnt say it had horrible level design, but yes, the games are quiet the bitch to pass, but fuck if not so gratifying when you finally pass them.

  4. HELL TO THE YEAAAH!!!!!! It’s about freaking time. As soon as I get home from work I’m downloading all 3 of the DK series

      1. They made them, but they are still Nintendo’s Property.

Its like how Insomniac made Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, and Spyro, but they dont own the property. R&C & Resistance are owned by Sony and Spyro by Activision (Formaly Vivendi) Nintendo own everything in the DKC property (kremlins and all.)

      1. haha, I downloaded the first and second one! will probably get the third, I bout gave up hope for ever getting these on virtual console, coolest news this month and my weekend schedule is now booked!

  5. I finally have the chance to buy DKC 1-3 on the eshop in the USA…. good job Nintendo!
So…. I just got all three.

  6. I played 100 % on all VC Land titles. The second and third game feel as uninspired ports, though The level design isn’t exactly The same. First Land game has odd controll issues. At first glance it appears impossible, but once overcome it’s a great game in it’s own right. I recommended Land 1 with some practice, but skip 2 and 3.

  7. Ridley, the Angel of Death

I’m glad Nintendo finally released them stateside. Took them fucking long enough… NOW GIVE ME FUCKING GOLDEN SUN: THE LOST AGE & METROID: ZERO MISSION, DAMN IT!!!

On another bright note, now people that live in the States will shut the fuck up about Nintendo can’t use the DKC games because of Microsoft now owning Rare bullshit.
