Project Cars Has Been Delayed Again And Wii U Version Still Not Mentioned

We’ve had confirmation that Project Cars has been delayed once again. It’s not a massive delay as it’s only been pushed back a month to mid-may. However, this is the third time that the game has been delayed. Interestingly this delay has only affected the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC versions, with Slightly Mad Studios once again neglecting to mention the Wii U version.

“Again, we want to thank our fans for their support and patience on this matter. There’s a high expectancy from racing fans around the world that Project CARS is going to be an exciting new contender in the simulation racing space and we firmly believe gamers deserve it to be in its most complete and polished state when they come to play it on day one.

“And since the gaming community is our primary focus and has always been at the heart of the project during development, we would like to offer some free content to all players as compensation for this short delay and as acknowledgement of how grateful we are. This gift, that we’re sure is going to excite fans, will be available from day one and revealed shortly. Keep an eye on our website for more info.”

      1. In some sense it is, since the game represents the company and the developers and in the end the criticism will be about the game… like a movie that gets delayed, it is done so usually because the movie (game in this case) is not good enough and needs to be reworked… now maybe with a game some things take longer (not reshoots like a film), but does this mean they are skimping on its development? It just is silly

    1. Games get delayed all the time, heck, even Smash Bros Brawl was delayed multiple times. It’s a simple fact of gane development. But the fact that the Wii U version hasn’t been tied with the release of the other versions is slightly worrying. Watch Dogs was in a similar situation, except chances are, the Wii U version be way better than the Watch Dogs Wii U version…

  1. Seems like this game is never going to come out… Also, I wonder how this game compares to Need For Speed, Driveclub, and The Crew. I need me another racing game but I can’t choose. :/

    1. It’s incomparable because those games you mentioned as SHIT. NfS is COD on wheels, DriverClub is another POS disappointment of 2014 and The Crew is like DriverClub but far more tedious and riddled with Microtransactions, the one thing that SANE people hate the most from mobile games to Electronic Assholes (EA).

      1. Well, I’ve played a lot of NFS, but Most Wanted 2012 was really fun and addictive. Rivals looks like even more fun to me so I’m leaning more towards that.

        1. *facepalm* They’re all the same crap. Drive in some “open world” rural road, racing against some dicks driving the same cars as the last game and get chased by cops. NfS is exactly like COD now, for driving in boredom. GTA5 racing and cop chases are a lot more exciting than that.

          1. Isn’t that what you always do in new racing games? Race with cars you got to race with in the last game? And how much can you possibly change a racing game? What do you want? Flying cars? Lol.

            1. I want racing games to take a break to brainstorm new ideas and use new real car models instead of, like what EA does for a living to earn money from the stupid, recycle the same damn thing that’s just barely 11 months old before the “new” entry.

                1. I honestly could go for another cross country games like Crusin’ USA, Outrun or like the Great Cross Country Road Race by Activision. You know something that doesn’t have laps and races until the end.

            2. I know you asked someone else, but I’d be content w/ new entries in Arcade Racers like Wave Race, F-Zero, Burnout, Ridge Racer, & Cruis’n. All they need do is make new tracks; upgrade the graphics & physics, or implement new aesthetics; maybe freshen up the roster of drivers/vehicles (but maintain a reasonable amount).

I’m satisfied as long as the main focus is on speed, the competition’s AI, & track layouts. Of course, checkpoints are important, though not essential. & the franchise-specific characteristics (water physics, near misses, boost pads, damage, modes, etc.), help add something different to each.

The 1 Arcade Racer I’ve been anticipating this gen is The 90’s Arcade Racer. Alas, the industry has largely steered clear of Arcade Racers. But as far as Open-World Racers go, I’d rather have a game like Crazy Taxi (also mothballed); again, a more focused experience.

But I wish Nintendo would quit depriving us of new entries in Wave Race & F-Zero just to add some new mechanic. They could add 2 extra titles to a console’s library (especially @ launch) quicker than starting from scratch, certainly quicker than trying to invent a new hook. & while they’d probably be retreads, they’d still be solid examples of the genre while offering newness (different tracks, backgrounds, & drivers/vehicles). Hardcore fans would @ least have the option, & to newcomers the franchise would be new. Just limit 1 entry from each every console (maybe add DLC here & there). Yeah, kinda like the New SMB series. Skip an entry entirely or save it for later, but imo not all “cookie-cutter” games are bad; just depends on how they’re managed.

              1. Oh, & another pro to the ‘conveyor belt’ or ‘template’ approach is the pricing; both the dev costs & MSRP have a good chance of being more affordable.

      1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

The delays are not a big issue, it’s the total evasion of even mentioning anything Nintendo like most do…

  2. uh oh.. No digital triggers is gonna be a pain (If this ever gets released for Wii U as no footage has been shown of that version).

  3. Forget this game. I’ve been waiting for it to come to Wii U since I first saw it in a sizzle reel from the Feb 2013 Nintendo Direct!!!!!! What’s the hold up?! Man I bet it ain’t coming to wii u either. What a joke. Ugh

    1. lol this comment exposes you as the “clone”. the anons were right, all this time XD
come on, try to damage control this.

  4. Another year another delay, a sign that this game is crap… I won’t bother waiting for this game even if they do come out with a Wii U version.

  5. So, it doesn’t it’s cancelled they insist it is coming at a later date. I don’t know why people are giving them crap they are probably going through a lot trying to deliver a great experience. How does delaying it prove it’s crap? This is how you PREVENT that from happening, something other 3rd parties don’t seem to get

  6. This game is not looking great anymore at all. Has anyone seen the new PS4 footage? The game itself looks last gen and the cockpit is even worse, it looks like it came from the PS2 era. I haven’t been impressed with the PC footage either myself. If this is all they can do on PC and the PS4 this far along, what the hell are they going to do on the Wii U? I doubt they’ll even make a Wii U version at the end of it all.

I’ve lost complete interest in the game. I don’t even like Forza all that much but I’ll even acknowledge it is a better game than this by miles. Even with Driveclub’s initial issues, it’s also way better than this crap both graphically and gameplay wise.

The physics are really off in this game too compared to the others. They really fudged this up big time. I really just don’t get how this game is looking a lot worse than it did when they first started showing it. Totally baffling.

    1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

      Typical Third Class rubbish agenda…

They brainwash the cattle to the point that most of them are oblivious to the obvious downgrades they make during the final stages just like the Ubisians did with Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed Unity…

    2. You know what’s worse than fanboyism. Posting lies about the game, simply because your idol console is not mentioned.

      1. What are you even talking about?

I game on PC, Wii U, PS4, 3DS and PS Vita. Why the hell would I even care that much if this doesn’t come to the Wii U? Other than for people who only own a Wii U and might want it.

The point was this went from looking like one of the best racing simulators ever, to a game I have barely any interest anymore. I was a huge supporter of this game and I recommended it to so many people when it was first being shown. Compared to what they showed when they were in need of funding, they’ve made barely any progress in that direction is what I do not understand.

It’s rare I agree with commander, but he’s right in this case. Another game that falsely advertised something so grand only for it look like nothing that was initially show at first, closer to release.

They wouldn’t be delaying this game this much if what I was saying, was a lie. If the game was that amazing and ready to go, I guess it would not have been delayed for the third time, now would it?

      1. Neither do you wasteful bytes. Cut off your internet and save data for resourceful folks. You call yourself commander, you’re failing as one.

    1. Agreed.
Or, at the very least, their frequent non-recognition of the Wii U version shows they don’t care much about it.

In either case, this won’t be getting my money.
There’s too many issues making me suspicious of this game, and it’s putting way too much focus on graphics for me to be confident in the work they’ll put into the gameplay.

    1. Same with Watch Dogs but that doesn’t make it bad. How hard is it to make a great racing stimulator? Apparently pretty hard as we seen in recent games, this could popularize the genre again

  7. A lot of the funding this have got was from people expecting a wiiu version. If they don’t release it on the console, it could cause them a lot of trouble.

  8. How about… instead of them keep delaying over and over again. They just say “It’ll be released AROUND this time”???

This is getting ridiculous. They need better time analysts or something.

  9. There is obviously something really fishy going on with the game. This has the signs of immense over promising and under delivering all over it.

  10. The only way Nintendo could compete is fuse the 3ds and Wii u. together meaning all 3ds games can be played on Wii u, which will bring game sales skyrocketing to the top…this will attract move game developers to build games on Nintendo platform first. The architecture is different which is why we need download codes when buying games that are compatible to both. It should just be one down for both console not two different code.

  11. The Wii U version hasn’t been mentioned because the Wii U version is not being worked on. Like Ubisoft with Watch Dogs, they are focusing on finishing the Ps4, Xbox, and PC versions right not.. The Wii U version is probably still in it’s infancy, and in my opinion has been scrapped completely.

They better send all the Wii U owners money back who donated to their kickstarter. Thats complete false advertisment to take money like that and then not deliver on a promise. Thats like me announcing that im developing a new Wii U game, then taking everyones money, then later saying, oh I’m sorry no game but thanks for the money!

    1. Ridley, the Angel of Death

Let’s hope that’s not the case & these delays is them secretly trying to make sure all versions release simultaneously on all consoles, including Wii U.

  12. Delayed? Again? Christ, forget it then. I’ve lost interest but I don’t understand why there are so many delays and barely any mention of the Wii U version? I guess speculation is still open here but I’ll wait for more concrete facts.

  13. Good thing I took advantage of GameStop’s trade-in bonus and traded in my Zelda Wii U towards a brand spanking new Destiny Bundle PS4. In all honesty, I just couldn’t put up with the Wii U anymore, especially the GamePad. Man, that thing sucked. Aside from the lack of games and poor online infrastructure, the GamePad single handedly drove me towards a PS4. It was such a half baked idea. Actually, the whole Wii U was a half baked idea that Iwata got while laying in his bed. I’d say that Wii U is good for playing games from two years ago (FIFA 13) and waiting for that occasional bone from Nintendo. Even while the first party games are good for the most part, they’re almost all hampered by the console whether it be the lame GamePad or the poor online infrastructure like the lag in Smash and no voice chat in Mario Kart. I haven’t looked back since I’ve gotten my PS4, nor have I ever been reluctant to play it. There’s so many games out for it. When I had my Wii U, there’d be days when I’d just turn it on and spend about and hour wondering what to play and then I’d turn it off without playing anything because there was nothing aside from games that I played 15 years ago on my SNES. I’d encourage more users here to follow in my footsteps and sell their Wii U’s for a PS4 or XB1.

      1. Yep. Compared to the Sega Dreamcast’s controller, the Nintendo Gamepad is a huge improvement. Wireless, dual thumbsticks, sleeker, touchscreen, bigger screenn, color screen, streams games, web browser and video content, manages system UI, inventory and maps, has gyro, NFC, mic, headphone jack, speaker…range and battery life suck.

Wii U supports Gamepad, Pro Controllers, Wii and Wii motion plus remotes (plus nunchuck and classic controllers), and Gamecube controllers. Wii U also has exclusives, fun games that still please the eyes.

  14. It all comes down to whether those games are what you want. I recommend to check out the current game library and future releases for the next system you might be getting next time. Though for the Wii U, the controller plays a role too. I like the games but that controller gives me cramps and I plan on getting the Pro Controller instead. Though it’s fine for short sessions say 3-4 hours but not when you need to hold the digital triggers down most of the time (Mario Kart 8).

The online infrastructure rather frustrates me but not because of the lack of voice-chat. Those games can handle it but Nintendo chooses not to and I don’t know why and it’s frustrating but the problem doesn’t lie with the console itself. What frustrates me the most is the lack of a proper game-invite feature. Waiting 10 minutes for someone to respond to your message, not an actual game invite feature is terrible… and I guess cross-game chat would be nice but a game invite is what kills any chance for potential acquaintances I meet on miiverse.

I’m still keeping it however for the future releases and currently released games out. The GamePad is a minor annoyance but I still get lots of hours into my game but once I get the Pro Controller, I’ll never see the light xD. Though the games that utilize the GamePad I don’t mind, especially the use of the second-screen for your inventory and such like for DarkSiders II and WindWaker HD. I love that convenience. Also how can I ever let go of a console that I can play with friends? The lack of couch co-op games this generation with the PS4/XBOX is what made me decide to go with a Nintendo console. Online gaming can kiss my ass, playing with friends will NEVER get old!

  15. The reason why no mention is because slightly mad studios are no longer making product cars for the wii u.
Nintendo and bandi have paid to have it made by a third party. This is no longer in the hands of slightly mad studios!

Wii U version is complete. It supports the Gamecube controller, giving Wii U owners the option for analog triggers. But the graphics and framerates were downgraded to make PS4 and Xbox One look superior. Optimizing for Wii U was somewhat difficult, but not too bad; it was much harder to downgrade, but it looks like tye console’s fault.

x86 is one reason for this delay. It requires more work to results ratio than PowerPC. Some developers worked on GameCube, Xbox, Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3, but x86 is what Sony and Microsoft have demanded be top priority. Expect ports for PS3 and Xbox 360.

Another reason for the delay is Microsoft’s multiplat clause. The finished Wii U version can’t release until Xbox One version is done (and maybe Xbox 360 port). Instead of lying about Wii U version and blaming MS, it’s best to keep silent, at least officially, regarding the matter.

Yet another reason for the delay is having partnered with a third party. We now have more bosses and red tape. And part of the moneyhat deals from both Sony and Microsoft stipulate the Wii U version must release months after PS4 and Xbox One versions. PC version is OK to release with those since they are part of the same family of platforms.

And the last reason for the deleay is the inclusion of a storyline. Expect plenty of violence and profanity. You’ll be so involved with the plot, you will forget you’re playing a game. The battery in your controller will hold its charge longer.

As a peace offering to Wii U owners, Bandai Namco will not include microtransactions, but no effort will be made for any DLC for the Wii U version should there be any. But PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions will each get exclusive DLC, though expect plenty of microtransactions (1 every 6 in-game miles traversed).
