Yacht Club Games is one of the latest developers expressing desire to see its character feature in Super Smash Bros. The indie studio hopes you will at least consider casting your vote for Shovel Knight, who appears in the game of the same name on Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. Based on a poll with more than 4,500 participants, Shovel Knight is the top choice for Smash Bros. fans with 14.16 percent of the votes. Nintendo recently confirmed that any video game character can be entered in the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot, which can be accessed here.
Please no. No indie character deserves to be playable. Lets stick to new nintendo series. Vote for Inkling, Isacc and Sukapon.

Who said it needs to be a character you grew up with? that’s the problem with this community, everyone here thinks there’s conditions for a character to be in Smash, what about Greninja, Shulk and almost all the newcomers?
I actually have a problem with unremarkable characters like Shulk, Greninja, Dark Pit and Duck Hunt, but Shovel Knight instantly became a classic so he’s really memorable.
Duck Hunt is a classic though.
Shulk is pretty damn remarkable, and so is Xenoblade Chronicles. Chances are there were people like you when Marth and Roy appeared in Melee, and now Fire Emblem is a critically acclaimed classic Nintendo series because Smash helped publicise a series previously unheard of outside Japan. Greninja and Dark Pit maybe, but Shulk and Duck Hunt deserved to be in Smash. Btw I really want Shovel Knight dlc too, but don’t talk shit on Shulk, when you most likely don’t know shit about Xenoblade.
Yeah, a short time remarkable character, try to say you want him in Smash in ten years, like that Chrono Trigger guy, a really good character that just had one game and dissapeared! Is the exact same case with this Knight right here… No, not even that, because he’s not even a full game character, is just an indie character… On the other hand, there’s ALREADY one indie representation in Smash Wii U… So who knows, maybe he’ll get his own trophy!
At the very least, it would be cool if he had an assist trophy.

Absolutely agree here. Smash Bros is about Nintendo All-Stars, and Shovel Knight doesn’t fit that build (he’s a nostalgia leech). Sure, I really enjoyed playing the game, but he’s not nearly as iconic as such defining Nintendo characters as King K. Rool, Isaac, Paper Mario, Inkling, etc. Fortunately, Shovel Knight has next to no popularity in Japan so I doubt the Western Indie band-wagon will ever sway Sakurai.

Melia just seems better to me for variety, as a long range character who could play off Shulk’s stat altering abilities, sincerely her magics are kinda like olimar’s Pikmin with only 1 Attack each but come with buffs like Shulk. Chrono was also on the list. Saddest thing though, Goku was above all these characters with like 2% of the vote. I understand why, it’s just sad

Sorry, but Nintendo made it clear only characters that originated from video games are accepted. And since Kevin Keene came from a cartoon, he’s not qualified. But if you want him so bad, use Mii Fighter to make him as a Brawler or Gunner.
Shovel Knight will not have my vote until they announce some Nintendo related content for the game. I’m a backer and is not fair to see Kratos for the PSN version, Battletoads for Xbox version and nothing for WiiU, 3DS or PC (PC is harder)
With all due respect to the Shovel Knight developers, there are other characters that deserve to be in Smash a lot more. Banjo Kazooie, King K. Rool, Wolf, Rundas, Viewtiful Joe, Birdo all deserve spots on the smash roster.

Shovel knight would make the perfect add on! Not only could he have a move set that would originate from his game, but he could also do amazing skin changes similar to bowser jr. When you change his skin instead of sticking with the shovel the game could switch his weapons to different gardening tools and add sheild knight skin too!
