This Is The Coolest Nintendo Jack-o’-lantern You’ve Ever Seen

So you think you know some talented Jack-o’-lantern carvers? Think again. Imgur user sabbywolf uploaded some photos of a recent creation based on the Luigi’s Mansion series and it is awesome. While the front has the distinctive carving of Luigi and the Poltergust 3000, the back has its own carving of a boo. When lit, the boo is projected behind Luigi, making for a great effect. 1. While it’s true that the Boo character itself doesn’t feature many details, the creator of this lantern could have added some shading, or refine its shape in certain parts and make it a bit rounder, such as its lower part and tongue. By simply cutting out the whole shape, as opposed to the way Luigi was done, it looks plain and flat, and kinda ruins the whole “synergy” between Luigi and the Boo for me personally.
But yea, as I’ve said, Luigi looks extremely well

        1. It can’t be done the way Luigi was done. They obviously wanted a boo shadow to appear behind it. If you do this shading like with Luigi the light isn’t going to pass to the wall.

          1. Wow, I hadn’t considered that at all actually, you’re right.
But I still think they could have refined the shape of the Boo to make it a bit rounder in certain spots. And looking at it again, I think the part around the eyes is something that bothers me about it. I personally think it might have looked better if they had only left the shape of the “eyebrow” instead of that big piece; like that, they could have directly connected it with the eyes, so both the outline of the “eyebrow” and the eyes would have been dark on the shadow, as opposed to being light, as they are in the pictures. But yea, just my personal thoughts, nothing else. If the creator likes it better this way, it’s all that should matter to them.

      1. Yes, I do realize that, and I wasn’t criticizing the idea behind the whole thing, not at all. I agree with you, it is a super creative idea indeed, but yea, I just don’t really like how the Boo looks compared to Luigi, that’s all.

        1. I could be wrong, but I think the Boo is supposed to be Boolossus.
I get what you’re saying though, lol.
Design-wise even in the actual game he wasn’t very detailed.
It looked more like a giant Boo that was sleep deprived.

        2. I honestly think, if Boo was the skin-carve and Luigi was projected, Boo would be more detailed. The physics of pumpkin-light -transmission is critical! ;D

    1. I thought the exact same thing, almost thought two different people did the carvings for a minute cause there is a huge noticeable difference in the art carving quality. And as you state below, yes Boo is a simple design, but that doesn’t mean half-ass it, if anything it means it should be totally on point cause it shouldn’t require nearly as much effort.

      1. Exactly, I think the same way about all the points you’ve mentioned. Especially about the two carvings looking like they’ve been done by different people, because they definitely look completely different in respect of art style, just as you’ve said.

    2. To create the badass effect of projecting Boo from the pumpkin’s light-source, I think detail had to be sacrificed for solid blocks of pumpkin-wall. It you notice what’s really going on with that pumpkin, it’s fucking genius. ;)

    1. As far as I’m concerned — if people are interested, it is Nintendo themed, and it is new, it constitutes as news to some regard — generally, everything else post is industry news. So you should have plenty of other things to read :)
