Adam means Nintendo ignoring Americans of having the smaller 3DS that they wanted for a long time and still not giving any plates or selling the system separately.

Cool beans…..but it’d be a pain if you had a regular n3DS sized case, as it would be too thick to put in…. and then if you put it in your pocket, the buttons could easily be pressed and the music and noises could play….and the 3DS already has a clock….soooo….I dunno, it’s neat, but it seems like the most impractical set of plates we’ve seen as of late.
I’d be more concerned with the extra weight on the top screen like that, even if it is minimal. The 3DS is known for having a lot of problems with the hinges and the top screen breaking, the New 3DS is no different.
Perfect example… Today I was cleaning my New 3DS, and I noticed the damn top screen has this long crack all along, right between the little gap of the main hinge and the plastic of the top screen, it’s on the outside. It’s very hard to see but it’s definitely cracking in that little gap between the two, and I treat the damn thing better than I would my own children (if I had any).
Obviously, yet another manufacturing fault. I just didn’t notice until now… Even more upsetting if you went through as many faulty New 3DS’s as I have, every single one had some defect, messed up hinges or a problem with the screen, and here I thought I found a perfect one, after going through 7 of them..
I can’t return the fucker now, Nintendo!!!… Barely anyone makes quality shit anymore.

I own a blue original DS, a xl 3DS. I’ve had the pleasure of working my way up the DS ladder. Managed to never break one though….
Be gentle, love it, nurture it with amps of gobblity goods.
The only handheld I’ve never owned was the Micro, and i happen to want one bad. So small…so colorness.

I have had screen scratched with every 3DS I’ve owned. I basically had a never ending warranty since every time I sent it in, Nintendo fixed it for free (because it was an engineering issue) then the warrenty would reset. I will say…my N3DS XL, aside from some hinge ussues, has not had a screen scratch yet…knock on wood.
It had nothing to do with care. Unless you leave it on it’s stand, and never put it in your pocket, it’s going to have issues. :/
Exactly, not much one can do about manufacturing faults. Other than send it to Nintendo or return it, if you still can.
I had two, so I would just rotate them…I was SO glad when they removed the “7 transfers” limit.
So I’d have Nintendo repairing one, while I gamed on the other. They paid postage, repairs and kept resetting my warranty. It sucked, but at least they lived up to their high quality customer service.
Same for me with the New 3DS, since I still have my old ALBW 3DS. Luckily I’ve never had to send anything in yet, because I am so analytical of the things before I even start using them. So I’ve always been returned them, unfortunately I just caught this problem way too late.
And for god sake, if their next systems have this stupid transfer crap, I’m going to lose it.

I carry mine around, but then I normally keep it in a soft pouch. I’m a softy for a sexy system though. Like that Micro, it has super Mario world!!!
I believe you lucked-out sir. I would even keep a microfiber cloth inbetween screens for a while..it was frustrating as hell! I’m not abusively hard on my things, but I use them and expect them to hold up to normal wear and tear….but again, Nintendo held up their end. I got a new or refurbished 3DS a couple times. All at no cost to me.

Funny you say that, I was going to suggest that but I figured you probably already did it.
What I did, is I kept that little sheet that came in between the screens when you buy the 3DS new. I just cut it to fit a little better and that works just as well.
What I find better than a fiber cloth, cause they may be big depending on what kind you use, are glasses cleaning cloths. Basically a tiny fiber cloth.

I’m an electronic sleeze, I don’t even touch my consoles or handhelds with the skin of my hands, I use leather driving gloves… That’s how ridiculous I am about keeping my electronics pristine. They only get touched with leather, fiber cloths, and the plugs that come with them.
And I wish I was exaggerating, but I’ve seriously gone through 7 just to get this one. You have no idea the number of defects I’ve seen on these New 3DS’s, it’s not cool, even the retailers I returned them to where amazed.
If you’ve been lucky with yours that’s good. I was lucky with my older 3DS and 3DS XL, but I can’t ignore how many horror stories I’ve seen about the hinges even on the older models, and now I am apart of those stories. Lol.
I just hope the damn thing doesn’t completely crack one day while I’m using it. All I can think about when I’m using it, is this damn crack. :(

It’s a cool idea but kinda pointless. It doesn’t give you the bottom plate, so unless you have a similar color it’s gonna look a little funny, especially if it’s a character one. Looks more like a collectible thing than a practical thing.

Is it just me or does it look like it’s upside down? They should have flipped it around…
I guess it depends on how you keep your 3DS placed when you leave it closed, it will be the right way when it’s opened (not as if you can even see it then anyway.)
Like Sleepy said, it just isn’t that practical either way. Seems more geared towards collectors.
