Nintendo: Miitomo Delay Will Have Minimal Impact On Fiscal Year Performance

One thing in the recent investors meeting that came as a suprise is that Nintendo’s first smartphone title Miitomo won’t be released this year as previously stated by the Kyoto based company. However, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima doesn’t believe that this will have a substantial impact on their fiscal year performance. Here’s what he had to say.

“Until now, we had been communicating that we would begin digitally distributing the smart device application within this calendar year,” Kimishima explained to investors. “After reconsideration on when the appropriate timing of the release would be, we have now rescheduled the release to March 2016. Upon releasing an application, we believe it is necessary to communicate about the application at least about two months before its release in one way or another.

“If the application were to be released in December, it would already be the time to start communicating about the application. Considering our entire business, we have decided to focus our efforts in the dedicated video game business for our largest sales season coming up in December and then inform the public about our first application early in the New Year and release it in March 2016.”

He continued, “As for the impact on our financial performance for the fiscal year ending March 2016, as we previously confirmed when the initial forecast was released (in May this year), we were not expecting a large impact if the application were to be released in December, since it is a free-to-start type application. Therefore, we expect the impact to be minimal due to rescheduling the release timing of our first application to March 2016.”

  1. I love how everyone in the topic picture is so formal. Then there’s Miyamoto wearing a T-shirt with a coat. X”D GG Miyamoto-san.

    1. and you also said wii wouldnt sell and nintendo is going third party YOUR ONE OF THEM DUDES WE AL KNOW

YOU SIMPLY DO NOT GET IT DO YOU this is a tiny seed that will grow into a mighty oak next year you blind moron

      1. Dumbass, Wii has lasted past it’s prime and already sold more than 11x Wii U did. And I never said Wii wouldn’t sell. That’s that idiot Patcher saying some shit because of its hardware as well as the DS not beating PSP that one time for the same BS reason.

And yes, Nintendo should ditch the consoles or just stay at portables/mobile since they somehow don’t fuck up there.

  2. What will impact fiscal year performance is a gapping hole in 3rd party support, and a limited number of holiday game releases.

Having more exclusives doesn’t matter when there is mass interest in cross-platform games that just won’t be coming to WiiU.

I’m really interested in seeing how Nintendo performs this holiday. If they have a strong season THIS year…then there truly is magic in the world and Nintendo is wielding it.

    1. However there was mention Nintendo had some unmentioned 2015 releases.

“Introducing the Holiday must-buy; Mario Badminton!”

  3. I think it’s the best move. With the integration of the new MyNintendo service, it all makes sense. Also, nobody’s asking for a mobile app for xmas, overshadowing holiday game sales would be stupid.

    1. I think you are right in that the app is more of a miiverse/my nintendo integration platform, not a “game” despite what people are hoping for.

Just the quiet before the storm… big shake up in the company, so a slow down after looking at the path up until this point and changing direction is to be expected.

      1. It should be the only kinda social app for Nintendo because it’s the only free to play one, the rest should be games because they’re lay to download.

        1. And one of the quicker/easier things to develop first… on a side note, I was thinking about the NX utilizing mobile phones as a controller… very, very possible to fully integrate more of what they seem to be doing

          1. That could be cool I guess, but it would have to be full touch screen controls of course, which for most games would be a pain. I guess it could work for a few specific instances, but I don’t see myself using them if I don’t absolutely have to if they integrate that.

            1. But some users might be and some games might be better, but what if you can reverse stream or whatever the term might be to have the game on your phone… Basically a way to utilize a game pad type experience but use a phone which is hardware nintendo doesn’t have to develop… I don’t know, we will see soon enough

                1. It only takes an app in android or IOS to make it compatible and maybe that is something new that could be tried to bridge the gap with younger players who are stuck playing games on phones.

                      1. You still need to buy the NX to use the phone as the peripheral. NO ONE is going to buy a system because it supports their phone. You need a lot more than that.

The gap you’re speaking of is to get mobile gamers on dedicated hardware.

                        1. If the NX allows for cross play on your phone, or off tv play on your phone, I think that might be something that perks the interest of many people. To declare “no one” will buy a system because it integrates with a cell phone is baseless. You could say that saying it would encourage people to buy it is similarly baseless, but if the NX hits other marks like being more powerful than PS4 and XB1, as well as having handheld and home console elements, then this might be another way of pushing that without using Nintendo built hardware and if they are going mobile, then the cellphone integration with the system is possible. I am just speculating, but I am not comfortable being so definitive about it.

                          1. I guess I’m just bitter of what will come and don’t want to be overly optimistic to only crash and burn in the end. Only time will tell.

        2. No, it’ll just affect your stock rate, which is only a big deal. Though their stock would’ve fell regardless because Miitomo isn’t going to be big. Nobody needs a kid-safe mobile social network and nobody wants it. Except that one guy above that’s talking about an oak tree.

          1. I think it looks pretty neat, plus who needs all the other stupid apps on the App Store that people download and use so much. Seriously you can’t go the no one needs this route with mobile apps.
