Today, Ubisoft marks the celebration of the 20th anniversary of one of its most cherished brands, Rayman. With 28 million units sold over the last 20 years, Rayman has become an emblematic character within the video game industry. As part of the celebration, Rayman’s creator Michel Ancel will hold a special livestream on Twitch, today, on November 17th at 4pm UK time. Joined by his new companions, the Incrediballs, Rayman is ready for a new epic journey in 2015 with the adventure game Rayman Adventures. The title is currently available on Apple TV and will be released on mobile platforms on December 3rd.
“Rayman is one of Ubisoft’s most iconic and beloved characters, and he is still going strong 20 years after his creation. That is a testament to our teams’ expertise and passion, and our ability to take the Rayman franchise in exciting new directions, said Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft. “As a fan of Rayman from Day one, it’s always an exciting and special moment for me when we welcome a new installment in the series. I’m looking forward to Rayman fans getting their hands on Rayman Adventures and to creating more adventures and fun with him in the years to come.”
Born in 1995, Rayman, a hero with no arms or legs, was created by a talented and creative team led by Michel Ancel and Frederic Houde. From its launch, the side-scrolling platform game was critically acclaimed thanks to its originality, its precise gameplay, and its incredible graphics and audio design. From this moment onward, Rayman took his place as a mascot for Ubisoft.
Whether in 2D or 3D, from cartridge consoles to new-gen, Rayman has adapted throughout the course of the past two decades in order to consistently offer his fans memorable and unique experiences that focus on high quality graphics set in poetic and colorful environments. Rayman also introduced the Raving Rabbids, and the UbiArt Framework, the engine that made possible the rich graphics of Rayman Origins, Rayman Legends, and now Rayman Adventures.
Ubisoft is now celebrating Rayman’s anniversary and historical success with players through a livestream on Twitch today at 4pm UK time. The livestream will feature Michel Ancel, and the development team at Ubisoft Montpellier, and will allow fans to ask questions about Rayman directly to the creator himself. The live gameplay session will take fans back in time by featuring the very first Rayman released in 1995 and will be an occasion to look back over the evolution of the character since its creation.
I really hope they make a follow up to Legends on consoles. It’s been over 2 years at this point.
There’s a new game called “Rayman Adventures” in Apple TV. Might be that new game you’re talking about and it’s obvious to come in iOS.
Rayman is the only game I ever enjoyed on mobile phones. They did a great job making the game flow fast like a console game even on a devide with no buttons.
Because it’s a fucking runner. Like Temple Run, it’s a fad that doesn’t last.
Well, I had tried to play other runner games before and never really enjoyed any of them. With Rayman I still kind of had control over the character a little and it was a better experience than usual.
All you do is slide and tap automatically. Not exactly fun isn’t it?
u really need to stop speaking for everyone
Well, you can say that about any game: “all you do is press buttons”.
But yes, usually those games are very boring. Rayman was a rare exception to this.
Rare exception? Just like it was a rare exception to forgive Ubisoft’s BS delay stunt on Legends for Wii U?
…wow. lmao Never thought they would sink this low before. But damn.
Have to agree with you on this.
pfffffffhahahahahahahahahaha
RIP Rayman.
This is probably the lamest anniversary celebration idea I’ve ever heard of
The 25th anniversary of Metroid think otherwise… >__<
Can’t celebrate a dead or non primary franchise vs others that have more recent releases and are top IP for the companies.
Rayman Origins and Legends are decent games, but this is a series that for me peaked way back with Rayman 2: The Great Escape. It’s the shame Ubisoft don’t seem to have the will to make a game as good as that anymore.
Legends was amazing, in my opinion. It’s all of the good from Origins without any of the bad (and the music levels were incredibly fun).
Legends > 1 > Origins > 2 > 3
Michel Ancel should be fucking ashamed
This is lame. It’s almost as terrible as what Capcom did for Mega Man’s 25th anniversary. Sigh.
That’s a sad anniversary poor Rayman
And now I don’t feel bad not voting for him to be in Smash. ^^
mmhhhh, to bad for the franchise I think..
i don’t care for Rayman. I WANT SHANTAE!!! Dam it…. Smash bros.
Only 28 million in 20 years. lol Iconic is not even the right term in this part. Sonic is more of an icon than that. XP
Except for the fact that Rayman games have always been consistently good (aside from 3DS ports…). Sonic on the other hand…
Except after Ravin Rabbids happened and became the butt end of the joke.
those are spin offs dude
And thats exactly what Rayman fans want? Instead of Rayman 4, they get another mobile runner clone and Ravin Rabbids party favors.
true u got a point there, its a idiotic move no matter how u look at it
So instead of giving the celebrations to console gamers, the people that bought your games, you’re giving it to …phones? Well I’m sorry Rayman.
Yea, no kidding. They’re releasing the “celebration game” to an entirely different market and group of people. The people at Ubisoft are idiots.
Yeah, today’s kids don’t give a shit about Rayman but we do, adults with consoles.
Oh poor Rayman…
Really great idea to celebrate the anniversary of a character that made its start on console on a device that has nothing to do with any of them. Good job Ubisoft. This is totally a smart move. *eye roll*
This is really sad… They’re so greedy for money that they’ll put their anniversary game of a CONSOLE series on mobile
Just when you thought Ubi couldn’t get any worse.
With a lot of stuff they’ve been doing lately, I can’t say I’m a Ubisoft fan anymore
………………………….. This is just as bad as Konami cancelling Silent Hills & trying to go all mobile. No, no. Konami has Ubishit beat in this regard… for now.
