SEGA Cuts Full-year Profit Estimate By Massive 90%

Things aren’t looking too rosy for SEGA at the moment as the company has announced that it has cut full-year profit estimate by 90%. The move is blamed on poor sales and delays on key titles such as Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice. The Nintendo 3DS title was one game that was due to launch this Christmas but has instead been pushed back until early next year.

The Japanese publisher has lowered its revenue forecast by ¥65 billion to ¥355 billion, a 15 per cent reduction. The impact on profit is more pronounced, with operating income expected to be 60 per cent lower – from ¥25 billion to ¥10 billion – and net profit expected to be almost 90 per cent lower – from ¥19 billion to just ¥2 billion.

  1. Let sonic rest in peace already. It can’t be rebooted. Lost Worlds was their chance and it just didn’t work. Everything after was trash.

    1. Or they could put more time and effort into making good Sonic games. Killing off Sonic is not the answer, and it will NEVER happen as long as Sega is still breathing. Sonic is still very popular, believe it or not.

The problem is Sega doesn’t treat the franchise well enough. I’m still hoping someday they realize all the wrong turns they made. I surprisingly liked Lost World, but it doesn’t come close to the Genesis titles.

  2. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

    >>>Segans, just kneel to our supreme power, hand over your best weapons and then live the rest of your failed lives under our rule, protection and guidance>>>

  3. I wonder what their plans are for Sonic’s upcoming 25th anniversary.

Sonic Colors was a really great game. Generations and Lost World were okay. I’m hopeful Sonic Team’s next game will be good… their last couple games have been fine enough. I just wish I was hopeful they could make an amazing Sonic game. But I don’t trust Sega. Ever since ’06… can’t trust ’em.

      1. No, Sonic the Hedgehog is a masterpiece…. the Genesis one.
06 is just a way people use to not shame the name of that masterpiece with…. 06.

  4. Honestly the Sonic games were good ever since Unleashed to Lost World. But After Lost World they died again because of fucking Sonic Boom. I hope nothing bad happens to Atlus because of this

Maybe Sega should get Atlus to help them. Maybe Atlus can remind Sega how to make GOOD games.

  5. As much as I feel bad for them, they deserve it.
SEGA clearly does not know how to manage their own games and clearly does not know who to hire to make good games.
Big Red Button and Sanzaru Games clearly were bad choices to make the Sonic Boom games and it amazes me that they would give the latter a second chance with Sonic Boom Fire and Ice.
SEGA, you’re problem is you’re rushing the games and not polishing them, you’re also not giving the franchise the attention it needs to be a good game, you’re just rushing them, not checking them over, and then expecting us to swallow it because it has “Sonic the Hedgehog” on the cover.
My advice? Either step up your game or hire someone like naughty dog or Camelot to make a good Sonic game.

Or they could save some of their money that they would have to use to pay them a little something for developing a game for a tarnished franchise & have Atlus develop a Sonic game instead. … Wait. Does Atlus have any experience with games outside of the RPG genre?

  6. And yet despite this news, there are still those zealots out there who believe in the delusion that all Sega needs to do is launch a new game console. Clearly that would magically turn their fortunes around in a market that has not been embracing consoles like it did in the past (rolleyesthenfacepalm)

  7. honestly I’m more worried about Konami. Sega is still going. Konami’s crazy and it does not give a fuck to games anymore. I just want Nintendo to get Hudson Soft IPs before anything bad happens, and Sony (or MS or Nintendo) to do something with MGS and Silent Hill. DDR must be saved as well.

    /dream

  8. SEGA. Please oh PLEASE let Nintendo have the rights to making Sonic games. You can keep publishing rights or something and earn some money off Nintendo’s efforts if you want, but in order to save yourself. One way or another you need to let Nintendo take the reigns.

Otherwise, you will die and take Sonic with you. :(

How the mighty have fallen. Don’t worry, Sega. If Konami & Nintendo keep up their current bullshit & continue on their path of self destruction, you’ll have plenty of company.

  10. Well if SEGA America and Europe weren’t focusing on real winners like Sonic Boom they wouldn’t be in this predicament. Sonic Team should forever AND always make the games.

  11. If there is anything I know about Nintendo, they know how to make their fans happy. Their best games may not arrive as soon as you would like, but when you receive it you don’t put it down until you beat it. I think Nintendo has just what sonic needs to make a comeback. They don’t have to give the entire franchise to Nintendo, just make the game alongside Nintendo so they can make games that people will respect. I think Capcom should’ve done the same thing with Mega man.
