The Paper Mario: Color Splash trailer that was played at the recent Nintendo Direct contains more content than it seems. In an effort to find the trailer’s secrets, the crew at GameXplain analyzed the trailer from start to finish. GameXplain also analyzed the game’s unveiling in Europe and Japan’s Directs, which provided even more observations and secrets. Feel free to watch the video below, which totals to about 25 minutes.
Paper Mario: Color Splash releases worldwide later this year.

I have to admit, it looks a little better now that I’ve seen the analysis. The game does look better than Sticker Star, and might actually turn out to be a good game. But it IS still a Sticker Star-ish game, and not what I want from a Paper Mario game.
Sticker Star was not only a terrible PM game, it was a bad, broken game overall.
Ugh, I’m still pretty mad about this game. I just want a good Paper Mario game with a well developed storyline with good partners just like the first two games. This just looks like Sticker Star 2.0
Well, my pure hatred has been turned into veeeeeeeeeeery slight optimism.
Guess we’ll see later.
Glad I stayed on the fence for this one. It’s actually starting to seem pretty promising.
Cue the irrational “it looks just like Sticker Star” posters. No, it doesn’t. At all. After watching this great video how could you not be excited?
Because it still follows the Sticker Stars formula. Sure, it looks like this might actually turn out good, but it’ll still be like Sticker Stars, only not terrible.
The best part of Paper Mario games were the personalities of the partners and the unique storyline. While this may still have a good storyline, I’m still pissed that we got a 3rd Paper Mario game in a row without partners tagging along in adventures.
Saw it this afternoon. The level if effort these guys put into their analyses is insane.
Anyway, they’ve only cemented further my opinion about this title. People jumped the gun with all the hate way too soon.
Woa woa woa…. Are you saying people have an irrational tendency to jump to conclusions based on nothing but the merest of glimpses of a game that really is all about informing people that this game is coming out rather than to inform them of how the game will be?
This… shatters my world view of our fellow gamers….
I’m stealing your description of the trailer for future discussions.
Paper Mario as we knew it is dead. I guess they expect us to move on to Mario & Luigi for a true RPG experience, huh. Let me think about that. Uhm… How about… no!? Let me know when they make a true Paper Mario RPG with a leveling up mechanic & awesome partners with their own set of skills. Have fun with Sticker Star 2.0, guys! I wish I could be as casual about my beloved Nintendo franchises as some of you are. But whatever. The less money I have to spend on Nintendo’s currently sinking Wii U, the more money I get to spend on Sony’s PlayStation 4. So there is my silver lining right there.
Paper Mario never was about the RPG or the gameplay, it was about the funny characters you could meet during the game, because if the RPG and gameplay was what defined Paper Mario, then the series died with Super Paper Mario and that is a very good game (and has the best story in any Mario game EVER).
Seriously, this complaint is as dumb as those saying that FFVII remake isn’t a FF game because it doesn’t have the same gameplay or those who compares Nintendo with Konami.
You have your opinion & I have mine. So I’m gonna agree to disagree.
I agree with you on that, I prefered the rpg gameplay but it was’nt essential, hell compared to the mario and luigi series the rpg gameplay was pretty simple, it was hardly genre making, however the story and chaacters were always the best part of it and imo its some of the best and funniest writing i’ve seen in a kids game.
Big issue with super paper mario was chanigng the characters party in the old games to a bunch of pixls with no personality.
This looks like it’s just gonna be like sticker star though, and considering nintendo’s recent track record for listening to criticism, I doubt it’ll have a story(plus the fact that there’s a world map based around levels, makes it seem even more to me that there’ll be no story).
im the opposite , i still cant see any game worth buying for the ps4 except kingdom hearts 3 , but anyways im pretty staying positive for this game it looks a whole lot better than sticker star imo can’t wait to see how it turns out
pretty much*
Have you tried The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt yet? Or maybe even Life is Strange? Both games have very good stories to them & your actions and choices in both games have an effect on future events in both games. Oh & Resident Evil Revelations 2 wasn’t as bad as the episodic part made it sound.
i forgot about revelations 2 that was one of my favorite games this gen :), i already tried witcher 3 and its ok i don’t see praiseworthy
the praise* stupid autocorrect
There Are Many RPGS AND Games I Other Genres I Will Be Buying On THE PS4 Once I Decide To Get One AND DAMN phone
It’s not everyones thing but I bought it almost soley for bloodborne.
I agree though there’s not much in the way of exclusives(for any of the consoles really) though I think everything sony announced at e3 has gotten me excited again.
I think wii u has had a great run in terms of exclusives for it’s first few years though, i’m just not liking any of their recent decisions barring fire emblem and splatoon.
Same here, i have a os4 for about a year now and i never really touched it, im waiting for kh3 or ff7 if those aren’t on the Nx, i was excited for sfv until i played it at a friend’s house and it was Meh, sony games are terrible in my honest opinion…
You should totally try Bloodborne. And many other games.. To say that a console has no good games this far in a comsole generation, I’m sorry, it’s non-sense at best. Unless they would be total flop then devs wouldn’t budge. Hell, Wii U had tons of good games and unfortunately it’s a distant third in the race in the generation. Too bad, it’s a great console but not the only one with good games. There are only bad games in the end, no bad console… just my two c man :)
Not looking too bad to me. I’ll pick it up, for sure.
As I’ve said previously, I’m just glad we’re getting more Wii U titles before the NX drops. The inevitable drought isn’t looking so bad right now.
You know, if the only way to get paint is to battle, that would be really cool. Because now I HAVE a reason to fight enemy’s.
And from what I[‘ve heard, there IS a level up system of sorts in this game.
I love how twisted Nintendo is with it’s happy franchises. You got a Toad having his essence sucked out of him in Color Splash, and Dark Matter and everything he does in Kirby. Makes me think of how Disney loved torturing it’s child audiences back in the day by forcing them to see that death happens to those you love just as it does to your enemies while also showing characters get over the loss of a loved one eventually.
Anyway, I’m still inlove with the idea of this game being on Wii U let alone that it’s coming out this year! Likely around Oct or Nov, but still!
your mom got analyzed
I have Sticker Star, but never played it. So I can’t really judge this, compare it, or complain about it. All I know is that I love the way it looks. And I could really go for another good, traditional Paper Mario game like the first two.
man i love how good this game looks graphically
i hope we can get experience points
