Zelda Will Launch Simultaneously For Wii U And NX

The Legend of Zelda: The latest instalment in this classic series is scheduled to launch simultaneously for both Wii U and NX, and both versions of the game have been in development in tandem. Because developers need more time to polish the game, it will launch in 2017, but it will be the focus of Nintendo’s presence at E3.

    1. I suppose that’s good? Since Nintendo will be taking there time to complete the game to make it far more better than the fans expected. I guess that’s just how Nintendo is working……I’m so glad the NX finally has a release date range though, gotta save up now. xD

      1. You’re right. Then again, I was in the process of taking a 2 week holiday JUST to play this game (as well as catch up on other games that I bought and have yet to play).

Guess those plans are now cancelled. -_-

      2. It looks more like they’re delaying it for NX, rather than delaying because it’s unfinished. They’re been making promises to their fans that it would have been finished since last year.

      1. If the side missions are as vast as Xenoblade Chronicles X (speculating, because I’ve barely played it) or even GTA V, then I’ll just have to add this game to the list of games that I KNOW I’ll never complete.

I’m going to have to find a new job. -_-

          1. Oh. I actually mean that I need a better job that pays me about the same and at the same time let’s me have less hours so I can play the games I’ve bought (especially the nearly 50+ games (yes: 50) I have in my backlog).

I’m sorry, but I like playing games. My job barely let’s me, though.

    2. All I see here is “I have no clue what it takes to build a game from the bottom up, but let’s be as negative about it as possible while nintendo works day in and day out to build a game as perfectly as possible”.

      1. Wait… I’m not complaining. I’m just sad that I can’t play it now. I’m fine with them doing so (generally speaking), but I’m still sad I can’t play it now. That’s all.

      2. All I see here is someone being a fanboy & defending Nintendo’s bullshit again. It’s about damn time, though. There has been so much rightfully angry people here that I was wondering when the bitches would come along to complain about the people complaining.

  1. What Will be the big Christmas title This year for Nintendo? With the NX releasing in march, who’ gonna buy a Wii U. And Zelda Wii U only Nintendo title at e3? This is so wrong…

  2. 2017?!! Aw man. AAAW MAAAN. What are they even gonna launch the NX with then? Is it even coming out this year at all? And if not, what do they have planned for the latter half of the year? Nothing?! I don’t like this one bit.

  3. Didn’t they once upon a time say that zelda u would not be released on nx? I mean we were promised Zelda U last year, then this year, and now we are told next year, because of the nx. And then they go and say they won’t talk about the nx at e3, and zelda will be the only playable game, that just sounds like so many poor decisions. Don’t you need other games to play so that there is variety and you keep gamers in your area longer than they are in other companies? Skyward sword didn’t even have this many problems. They announced it, and to my memory they didn’t delay it multiple times. If nintendo was smart, they would talk about the nx at e3, show it off, bring multiple playable games to e3, and not just focus on zelda….

      1. You’re right, they never stated that it would be Wii U exclusive, only that it was still coming to the Wii U. But it makes me wonder, what issues they were running into with the game? Because they first announced it at 2013, and Skyward sword we first heard of it in 2008, but only that it was in development. It wasn’t until 2010 when we finally got a decent look at the game, and it was delayed once, to 2011 for extra polish. We first heard of Zelda U in 2013, 2014 we got our first look, and told it would be released in 2015. Then after that, we were told we would see the game at e3 2015, only for march to come around and they say no, but then still say the game would release 2015. But then they told us they have so much footage to show us but won’t until a later point. Then they said it would release in 2016, but now it’s pushed back to 2017 for polish. I know it’s not uncommon for a Zelda game to be delayed but…I feel it was announced to early. Nintendo has been dead silent on Zelda and the NX, but it seems like they have become more and more silent lately, and I’m not sure why. Nintendo will always do it’s own thing, but honestly, it’s really hurting it’s fan base by doing this. I loved the idea of Nintendo directs because they gave you updates on games coming out, games in development, it was something that personally kept me interested.

        1. Isn’t it obvious? Sometime in 2015, they decided to release the game on NX, too, which is the real reason for the delay in 2015, so they could port it to NX. It was never truly solely about “polishing” the game for Wii U.

  5. Does anybody else feel like jumping off the nearest bridge or cliff right now? Or is it just me? This marks the death of the Wii U for me. Thank goodness I’ll soon have a PS4 to keep me busy until next year. I just can’t believe that Zelda will be the only game at E3 from Nintendo. I thought that Nintendo was going to KILL the competition this E3. But once again, an arrow shot through my heart.

    1. Let’s keep in mind that both Sony and Microsoft haven’t unveiled their plans for E3 yet. There is hope, then.

I’m glad you’ll be getting a PS4/PS4.5. It has a great catalog of 3rd party games, and a number of exclusives are coming in the next months, like Uncharted 4, Gravity Rush 2, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Ratchet and Clank, Hellblsde, Nier Automata and etc. I’m happy with mine, although I personally feel the Xbox One a better console overall.

    2. No that is just you i have a backlog of games to play and many more games anf systems to buy but ya see now to never have any hope for nintendo when it comes to anything they do because they are retarded

  6. I wonder how many first party games will be released yet on Wii U. Shovelware and crapware will still drop, but… It seems the Wii U is pretty much six-feet under.

This looks like Skyward Sword all over again.

      1. I was referring to Skyward Sword being the last big Wii game after a long period of unimportant games being released on the Wii. Sorry if I haven’t worded my previous comment properly.

    1. And to not have a proper 3D Mario nor a 3D Metroid. You realize how much of a failure the Wii U was when it’s 3 main flagship titles don’t have main series games on the console

    2. And the first console generation to release in the fucking Spring instead of Winter. Nintendo seems to be on the roll with the destruction of their usual patterns.

-||They better focus 100% on non-existant droughts for the NX then, we cannot afford another war lost||-

        1. I have no doubt that the NX will have an impressive reveal, assuming the hardware is as good as we all want it to be; but it’s a shame it won’t be at E3. No event can match the hype that goes into E3.

          1. I don’t care that much about specs, but they draw third-party studios in. As long as it’s on par with PS4 and is easy to develop for, I’m happy. My main problem is the games. I was hoping to see new projects and all that, but it seems we’re not getting that.

            1. Same here. Games are what make a system. In fact, a friend once asked me which I would choose if I could only have a Wii or an Xbox 360, and I said a wii simply because the games I had for wii were fun and had so much replay value that I wouldn’t want to give them up.

However, I’m a firm believer in showing what a system can do before showing what it will initially do. For instance, when xbone and ps4 were announced microsoft focused on showing off the actual console while sony focused on showing gameplay. As a result I was initially much more informed on the xbone and therefore more impressed with it.

                          1. See for me it came down to the games and long term value of the console. For wii I have both Zelda games, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, SSBB, Blazing Angels, Last Story, Xenoblade, plus a few other games and my huge collection of Gamecube games.

For 360 I have some awesome games: Red Dead Redemption, Assassin’s Creed 1 and 2, the Arkham games, the earlier CoD games, etc.

The problem is that I’ve tried playing a second run of a lot of my 360 games and found that they just weren’t as fun the second time through. On the other hand, most of my wii games had massive replay value. The 360 does have MUCH better online support, but eventually that support will be cut off, and then I’ll be left with some great games that I just don’t want to play anymore.

                              1. I suppose it does. I haven’t really been interested in the GTA games since the third one. Red Dead was simply amazing though. I really don’t understand why Rockstar hasn’t invested in a sequel yet.

I think what turned me off is the kind of game GTA is, which is pretty strange considering some of the things I’ve done in other video games. Lol.

                      1. But Sylux when they announce a special Direct later this year or a special conference I’m pretty sure they will show off new NX titles. I know you expected the NX to be unveiled at E3 like I did but maybe Nintendo wants the spotlight to be on themselves so they opted to so their own separate thing. I personally thought that Nintendo would show off the NX and talk about it’s features and specs at a Direct before E3 and then at E3 they would show it’s software but of course Nintendo seems to have their own plans. I just hope it pays off in the long run

-||I’m sure they’ll show a few more things, they said Zelda will be the focus, not only thing shownonlything, however, I’m already adjusting myself for the NX||-

                    1. They could announce new 3DS and Wii U games at E3 without having playing booths for said games, that much is true, but have you seen their Wii U sales estimates? They sold 3’25 million this past fiscal year, but they’ve sliced those numbers to 800.000 for the next one. The way I read it, they aren’t going to release anything of worth on the system. Otherwise, those figures would be higher.

                      1. Family Guy’s was funnier. Regrettably, I find Spongebob not as funny as others. In fact, I haven’t found much of anything from Nickelodeon these days that makes me laugh like they use to. :/ Then again, I was more into Nick’s shows like “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” & “Legends of the Hidden Temple.” Not to mention some of the shows they showed on Nick at Nite like “I Dream of Jeannie.” Oh I miss Nick of the 90s. *sigh*

                        1. I’m right there with you. I was born right at the beginning of the 90’s. It was a great time for Nick. Spongebob came out at the end of that era and it was very funny when it did. It lost its touch during the 6th season though. My nephews watch it now, and it still gets a good joke out now and then, but it’s not what it used to be; neither is Nick for that matter. I agree with you there.

Family Guy I don’t like much. I liked it in the beginning (the episode you referenced was a good one), but imo it took a turn for the worse after the third season.

                          1. I’m still very into Family Guy & it makes me laugh on a regular basis. Speaking of, I need to hurry up & catch up where I left off. I think the last season I watched that was new to me was… Hm. Wow. It’s been awhile. In fact, I can say the same for the Grey’s Anatomy show, too, to a point, BUT I remember the last season I watched of that.

                        2. are you afraid of the dark!!! do you remember Eerie Indiana? I always liked that weird show, Ren and Stimpy was my all time favorite thing from Nick though. ^^

                          1. Looking back, Ren & Stimpy & Rocko’s Modern Life are shows from the 90s you can’t help but think “My god! What were they thinking putting these shows on for little kids!? O.O”

                              1. I want to say it’s because back in the day that parents weren’t as stupid as they are now & knew their children just didn’t realize how dirty some of the stuff they saw really was because the kid was too innocent to realize.

                                  1. Obvious to them, sure. Obvious to us when we were kids & our parents raised us right, no. Example. I never once had any second thoughts about the gay couple in Mrs. Doubtfire. In fact, I didn’t even know they WERE gay. lol I thought they were just very close guy friends living together. Even if I did know, I would have just thought they were a very loving couple with an understanding brother-in-law & mother-in-law.

                1. Shocking news. Truly shocking. News at 11.

I was right about the dual release of course, but that they delayed it again until 2017? Yikes, Nintendo.
And according to Gamespot: “The company confirmed that the game will be its only playable title at E3 this year, “in order to provide attendees a complete immersion.””
                  LOL. What a pathetic excuse.

                  1. We both know of a certain someone that won’t be happy he ended up being wrong after fighting with everyone for so long it would remain a Wii U exclusive. *cough*originalbloodace*cough*

                  1. More like Zelda U was delayed because of NX but then they had to delay NX because they realized they needed more time to fully port the game to NX.

                  1. Yeah man I think everybody knew that Zelda Wii U would release on both the Wii U and NX but many thought that the NX would release this year because Zelda was already scheduled to be released on the Wii U this year but now that version got delayed. I tried to warn people that Nintendo was going to release the NX in 2017 because of their historical track record but as of now I kinda hate I was right….smh

                  1. Damn it! I bought a new Wii U with a new Gamepad for nothing! Well time to sell that sucker at Gamestop. Might as well try to get some of my wasted money back. But this is good news. Now I don’t have to waste anymore time & money on the dying Wii U’s software. Good bye, Titanic U! May you not rest in peace but hell! D:<

                    1. Yes. But I did say “little reason” and not “no reason”. Because there are still a good amount of games I have not played yet. And unfortunately, the NX will likely not be backwards compatible which means I won’t ever get to play them unless I get a Wii U. I don’t want to. Lol. But I want those games. Nintendo should do something similar to PlayStation Now. I don’t care what people say. Blah, blah, Nintendo isn’t supposed to charge you for gaming or whatever. I would pay for it. Whiners don’t even need to use it. They can keep their Wii U’s for all I care. Lol.

                      1. Sadly, I can’t keep my Wii U anymore. It’ll just be a sad, dark reminder if what could have been. About how badly it got with me getting so close to just saying “Fuck Nintendo! They can just die! I’m done, OUT! They can have their fucking casuals, their god damn fanboy slaves, & their fucking forced gimmicks! Sony is going to bury Nintendo one day, & I’ll gladly be there to not even piss on them when they catch on fire & burn down to the ground like the shit they have become!” *eye twitch*

                          1. I can’t promise anything. In fact, I think I’m close to just saying “FUCK IT!!!” & taking the new Wii U & old Wii U out back & setting them both ablaze. Otherwise, I might end up feeling like I just sold a cursed object to another poor soul.

                              1. I foolishly bought a second Wii U, a refurbished one, for a new Gamepad because I wanted to replace my 3+ year old Wii U & didn’t see the need in paying to fix an old, utterly destroyed Gamepad. Sadly, I found out too late, as I already got my new Wii U in, that you needed TWO gamepads, one for each Wii U, to even do the god damn dinosaur data transfer bullshit! This was a month before I got my PS4 & is actually the driving reason for why I decided to get one in the first place because I was furious for once again getting screwed by Nintendo because of their god damn innovation bullshit & forcing it down our god damn throats. Long story short, fuck Wii U! Bring on the NX, damn it!

                                1. Not to mention my old Wii U seems to have croaked the bucket & now it seems I need to send it in for repair. But as I said, fuck the Wii U so fuck that bullshit. Probably end up having to pay to fix it, anyway. So done spending money on a Wii U.

                                  1. I can’t remember why but I snapped over something. Let’s just say it’s beyond repair. lol

                2. Hope this kills every single pathetic Zelda U rumor out there. Who knows what will happen if they took big risks like full voice acting and pandering to the female audience.

                3. The delay WILL be worth it. Same thing happened with Twilight Princess and we got an amazing game. Let’s all be patiently excited. I’m keeping my Wii U
For those who said that this game is the only reason you bought one go get:
                  Splatoon
                  Mario U
                  Mario 3D World
                  The HD Zelda remakes
                  Hyrule Warriors
                  Super Mario Maker
                  Smash Bros
                  Stat Fox Zero
                  Pokken Tournament’
                  Frig even ZombiU
                  Did I already say Splatoon?
All of that should tide you over until Zelda.

                    1. Mixed emotions from different people. Just like Wind Waker, Majora’s Mask, Ocarina of Time, and pretty much every Zelda game. They all have their fans as well as their detractors.

                  1. We? If by we, you mean everyone, no. No we didn’t. Some of you might have felt like you got an amazing game. Me, TP was good at best. I give it a 7.

                      1. It felt like a lesser Zelda to me. Barely any worthwhile subquests. Oh & the fact they hyped up the big ass field but forgot about the fact we might actually want a load of enemies in said big ass fields along with reasons to actually explore besides just for heart pieces & golden bugs. So I felt they wasted their time giving us a big world. I felt Skyward Sword was better. And that game was linear as fuck! D:

                        1. Good points. I had heard someone before complain about the scarce field. I might be a bit biased since TP was my first 3D Zelda, but I enjoyed it so much that I’ve played through it at least 4 times. What really grabbed my attention was the story and characters. After playing every game, I still think Midna is the deepest Zelda character thus far. And I liked that as Link, you actually got to develop your skills over time through your interactions with the Hero. Every other game presents you with all your sword skills at the beginning. With TP it felt like Link actually grew from a simple farmhand into the Hero of Hyrule.

                          1. That was one thing I did like about Twilight Princess was Link having to learn certain special sword techniques.

                4. Bummer. Zelda was the last Big game I was looking forward to on WiiU. I’ve no doubt I’ll be getting an NX (whatever it turns out to be) on day one, and just like Twilight Princess, I will get Zelda on the NEW system.

I am dissapointed … but I feel I got my moneys worth out of Buying a WiiU. I still have games on it I have not finished yet, and a handful on the backlog I’ve yet to play.

Truth be told, if I quit my job today and did nothing but play through every game I already have downloaded onto my WiiU from start to finish, 100%, for 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, I would not finish them all before the NX comes out anyway. I <3 Virtual Console.

The games lineup on WiiU looks shallow compared to PS4 and XBO … but the reality of my life as an adult with a full time job has been that I don't even have time to play all the games I have, never mind a hundred more. I have not even played the second stage of Bayonetta 2 yet, because I'm still on the final stages of the first game.

Best of Luck to Nintendo. I hope NX gets the attention they want. That just means a wider variety of games from third parties for us if they do.

… and brace yourselves for when NX is delayed again until July-October 2017 in a December announcement. You KNOW it will happen.

                  1. I wish I could say the same about Wii U. All the lies, false promises, lack of a universal account system so no cross buy, cross save, & cloud data storage, region locking so we can’t get a Japanese version of a game heavily censored in the West to play on our American Wii U, and no true Metroid or original Paper Mario gameplay entries. All these things have ruined the Wii U for me. The sooner I can get away from this nightmare of a console, for me personally, the better. Time to go all in with my PS4 & 3DS and play the waiting game with a Nintendo home console. Wii U will stay right where it belongs. In my memories.

                    1. That last bit is supposed to be a Final Fantasy VII Advent Children reference when Cloud defeated Sephy.

                        1. I can’t wait to get Final Fantasy VII Remake on my PS4. I hope it expands the original game to include characters that appeared in Dirge of Cerberus. In fact, after you clear the end of the original game, a time skip happens that takes place after Advent Children & Dirge of Cerberus. At least, I can dream, right? lol

                5. This time it seems Nintendo knows what theyndoing. They learned from the Wii U most def. You can tell. Sure Zelda U is delayed. But if it wasnt then it would take up all the hype for the NX version. Smart move. Now im thinking I want an NX.

                6. A certain regular on here is going to be so pissed he was wrong that Zelda U was going to remain a Wii U exclusive.

Thank God, and Nintendo, it isn’t, though. Now I have no reason to keep my Wii U anymore since Zelda U isn’t stuck on that dying piece of shit. As for my digital purchases on it, fuck ’em. Hopefully NX will have cross buy so if any Wii U games get ported to NX, I can get them for free on it. Chances are Pikmin 4 is also an NX title. I wouldn’t be surprised if they dual release that, too, though.

                7. So no Zelda for Wii U? Lame. If the NX is going to be a more powerful system and this game is being released at the same time, considering if I get an “NX”, why would I buy it for the WiiU? Even with Twilight Princess’ dual release on Gamecube and Wii there was still exclusive titles for each console (Wind Waker & Skyward Sword) so unless theres and ultimate nx exclusive zelda game why bother with the WiiU version? I guess I’m just frustrated. I feel like the last console Zelda game we got was SS and ever since its been HD upgraded re releases. i suppose its not the end of the world. we’re still getting a new Zelda game, i guess it doesn’t matter what console its for so long as its good.

                  1. Wait, what? It says that? Oh shit! It does. I’m only gonna say this once but BULL-FUCKING-SHIT!!! Trying to cover their asses is what they are doing! Pfft. The things Nintendo will lie about to cover up their fuck ups.

                9. To be honest that announcement sign the divorce between me and Nintendo. I don’t think the game is delay for polishing. I am pretty sure they can release the game now at it is. For me it’s a slap in the face for all wii u owners. I bought the wii u for 4 titles and Zelda was one of them. For me the Nx can really fuck off,I didn’t give a Shit in the first place but know I really don’t care….
