Hyper Light Drifter Has Been Canceled On Wii U & Vita

Heart Machine’s Alex Preston has announced in a Kickstarter update video that Hyper Light Drifter has been canceled on both the Wii U and the Vita. Preston says that this is because of issues with his health and the game’s engine. He says that he would need to rebuild the game from scratch to release it on Wii U and the Vita. If you backed the game on Kickstarter and selected either platform, there’s still hope. Two options are available. You can get a code for PC, Playstation 4 or Xbox One instead, or you can choose to get a full refund.

  1. It sucks that health concerns got in the way but I guess it can’t be helped. I don’t blame him, either. ESPECIALLY considering Iwata passed away while he was still on the job. There comes a point where dedication to your fans is not as important as your own health. If people can’t accept this or whatever, that’s their problem.

    1. So until someone is able to come out & reveal he’s lying about his health, people should hold off with getting their torches & pitchforks ready.

    1. Sorry but not everyone can, nor should they to be honest, be like Iwata or Sakurai & work even when they have health issues. In fact, I hate businesses that don’t let their employees off of work if they are legitimately sick. Would it make you happy if he said he was dying? Or would you still bitch that he’s “just being lazy”?

    2. Besides, if you bothered to actually read the article, you’d notice people that donated are allowed to either get a full refund of their money or they can get a copy of the game on another console.

    3. He is sick. He was sick when he started the project, and in fact the name of his company, “heart machine”, is inspired by that fact. This man has left his mark on gaming and this world by releasing a suberb game (lazy my ass), and I commend him for it, even it we will not be seeing a Wii U release. BTW, this is Nintendo’s laziness as they have never bothered to strike a deal with Gamemaker to allow GM developed games to release on their system. I don’t know all the details, but this really is Nintendo’s fault.

  2. Why did he announce the game for Wii U in the first place, if he knew that the Wii U doesn’t support Game Maker? Also, I’m sure he could outsource the project to someone to port it to Unity.
