After yesterday’s announcement of Mario’s first iOS outing, Shigeru Miyamoto has been answering many questions on Nintendo’s future in the mobile space. In an interview with IGN, Miyamoto was asked whether Amiibo would ever play a role in Nintendo’s mobile games. While not confirming anything, he claimed that it was an area the company was interested in. Miyamoto claimed that because of Apple’s announcements regarding NFC technology, Amiibo integration seems more likely. Is this something you’d like to see? Tell us in the comments below.
“There’s nothing we can announce today but It’s certainly an area we’re interested in. Until the announcement this morning there wasn’t a whole lot we could do, but now we can look at what they’ve said and how we might have an opportunity to use that.”
That’ll raise sales a lot, but the only thing is… not all phones have NFC.. :(
Maybe they’ll make their own phone adapter hardware? An add on like they had for the 3ds but aimed at the phone?
Maybe that’s what Nintendo will do if/when they make their own phones.
well that can complete there sales
Actually I think most do now. Every phone that I’ve had for the last 2 or 3 years have NFC.
It’s not a question Miyamoto knows this is GOING to happen. Period.
Nintendo has Apple so far up their behind they don’t know Android has had NFC for years.
Half a decade actually.
I read that Apple has had NFC in the iPhone for quite sometime as well, but the new iPhone 7 will now have the same NFC tech that Japan (and Nintendo) uses, which will make amiibo functionality with the iPhone 7 much more possible.
Half a decade on Android, only 2 years on iOS.
NFC is NFC, period. It’s a standard system that everyone uses. You can already tap Amiibo in different ways onto Android devices.
The only thing being introduced is Apple Pay in Japan. Nothing more, nothing less.
basically who knows
oh ok. I found the source I was referring to:
In the past, the NFC capability of the iPhone made it all but impossible to read and write information to NFC capable products due to Apple’s strict, payment only policy, but that may change with the updated NFC chip in the iPhone 7. The new chip supports FeliCa Type-F, a NFC technology used in Japan – very similar to the NFC technology used in amiibo today.
Miyamoto added:
“Until the announcement this morning there wasn’t a whole lot we could do, but now we can look at what they’ve said and how we might have an opportunity to use that.”
Like I said, it’s been on Android. It’s been open as it should be. Unlocking something is hardly revolutionary.
Who said anything about revolutionary? You #TeamAndroid people are so funny lol
make amiibo functionality with the iPhone 7 much more possible.”
You were comparing it to Android. There’s nothing new.
Revolutionary-involving or causing a complete or dramatic change
I wasn’t trying to compare it to Android, you’re the one who seems bent on the comparison. I was simply referencing the source article that mentions FeliCa Type-F, which is just a minor change. Hence, not dramatic or revolutionary. I do however find your passion for an inferior product quite admirable.
