In case you missed it (I very much doubt it) you’ll have seen that Nintendo has unveiled its next generation gaming platform the Nintendo Switch. Polygon reached out to Nintendo about the system and was simply told that “Nintendo Switch is a home gaming system first and foremost.” The publication also asked about whether it would have any impact on the Nintendo 3DS to which they were told “We have made no announcement regarding the future of Nintendo 3DS.
“Obviously with sales of almost 60 million 3DS portables worldwide, there’s still a huge hunger for new games, such as Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. There are many more games in the pipeline.”
Nintendo was equally coy about production of the Wii U in the wake of news that the Nintendo Switch will launch in March 2017 and said “We have nothing to announce about the production status of Wii U,” “We encourage anyone who wants Wii U to communicate with their preferred retail outlet to monitor availability.” So there you have it, not too much information unfortunately. More will obviously be shared at a later date.

The Nintendo Style?
Dammit I must have typed quick and Safari autocorrect turned it into Style :D
Funky name though ;)
Lol, I was wondering if that was the Japanese name or something.
||Yes, The First Order even included a switch to switch the name Switch to whatever name you want…||
Status: Nintendo Switch inert (Siva!)~… COMPLETE
Status (!)~ Deletion of Xbots… STILL IN PROGRESS…
||The progress just started dog…||
It seems that that Nintendo upgraded to a toaster oven.
But you’re right
Let’s just Spirit Bomb the XBots!
Nintendo Style?
I can’t wait for the Nintendo Style.
“We have nothing to announce about the production status of Wii U,” “We encourage anyone who wants Wii U to communicate with their preferred retail outlet to monitor availability.” it means “we’re not saying that the WiiU is no more, but just in case, reserve yours”
I hope you can buy a case for the Switch tablet that has a little pocket for the 3DS :P
That reminds me, this thing NEEDS StreetPass.
I’m 99% sure that it will, and then when you get home you can play all your mii plaza games on the big screen!
They should make a StreetPass PLUS micro-device. It will sync SP data to the NS once you open the SP app.
I doubt that they would, it would defeat the purpose of wanting people to use the tablet on the go.
||Unlikely in the same form though…||
I’m hoping the Switch can just play 3DS games so I won’t have to carry around two devices.
Looking at how the Game Card looks like for the Switch, it’s probably not going to happen.
But I can see Virtual Console support for it, so maybe we’ll see it on whatever eShop they make.
i am sure patenting/licensing can get in the way, but it would be dope if the NS is to be the “one stop shop” for everything Nintendo; New IPs, 3DS titles, Wii U titles and older gen titles all available either downloadable or on game cards.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who noticed the amiibo in the video. I would say that’s a big hint at compatibility to anyone who didn’t catch that.
I mean, they almost have to have amiibo functionality with the Switch. They’ve been selling the things and propping them up. Its only been like two or three years. To abandon them after such a short time would cause major outcry from the fans.
And sure enough, Nintendo confirmed amiibo support.
lol
And not even an hour after you made that other comment. In fact, it was confirmed 30 minutes after your initial comment. lol
I scare myself sometimes haha.
Has anyone seen any news where it confirms or denies that the display is a touch screen cus I don’t see anybody tapping on the screen in the trailer or anything so I’m guessing it’s just a display
I also noticed that nobody was blowing in it either haha. One function I certainly wouldn’t miss.
I really want to know what´s going on regarding potential BC. It would totally suck if “new” full price versions of MK8 and Splatoon would come out and Wii U early adopters wouldn´t get those “upgrades” for a reduced price. That´s really my only concern regarding the system. I hope that they will have a fair solution for this and will clarify it soon.
this is why they really need to have new content, kind of like how Super Street Fighter 4 has the same DNA of Street Fighter 4 but with major updates like new characters and stages. it was not a simply update, rather a new standalone game. Capcom knows how to do it.
Just like Nintendo to keep the cat in the bag about top secret details.
If they let all of the details out today, they wouldn’t have anything left to drive hype prior to release. There’s plenty more news coming, I’m sure.
In other words, “Buy a Wii U AND a Nintendo Switch!”
But, I ALREADY bought a Wii U!
SEE THIS PATCHER?! YOU’RE IDIOTIC PREDICTIONS ARE FALSE, IT HAS MAJOR THIRD PARTY SUPPORT, IT HAS HYPE, IT HAS ZELDA, AND IT SURE AS WELL HAVE THE POWER YOU’RE TOO UGLY AND STUPID TO RELIZE! Iwata’s legacy will live on and NOT EVEN PATCHER CAN PREDICT IT’LL END! BET HE’S EATING HIS WORDS RIGHT NOW!
Well, stocks soared, so there might be few investors who will not trust pachter again.
I’m calling it now, in late 2017 to early 2018 Nintendo will announce a replacement for the 3ds and it will most likely be compatible with the Docking station for the NS to allow up scaling as well compatibility for ds/3ds/new 3ds cartridges. If you look closely at the NSwitch it looks as if it has 2 hdmi on the side of the docking station, now what do you think those could be used for? Also they did say Pokemon for NS is in the future, so we may get 3 new pokemon titles, 2 for the new handheld and a new Stadium for the NS to compliment the the two:D
Ehhhh. I would rather not have to buy a successor to the 3ds in addition to the switch. Not to mention another handheld console a couple years would undercut one of the main reason to buy the Switch.
