Laura Dale: 2 Nintendo Switch SKUs Planned And UK Pricing Will Be At £199.99 and £249.99

Journalist Laura Dale who has provided rock solid Nintendo Switch information in the past is stating that she has heard from her sources that there will be two Nintendo Switch SKUs. The first SKU will retail for £199.99 and that there won’t be a set retail pricing as UK manufacturers are not allowed to set RRP prices for consoles. There will be a second Nintendo Switch SKU which features more internal storage and a game and this will retail for £250. The pricing comes from within UK retailer GAME who will also be selling the Nintendo Switch Pro controllers for £39.99. The system is thought to be region free and recent conversion rates would put the console at approximately $249.99 and $299.99.

                1. Argh… Japan. Why do I have to live in Germany. Germany is okay. Girls are all the same. Just care about Facebook, beauty are all like “why are there no man around they respect women?” But ignore the ones that do because they not hot

                    1. They are all the same 😪
And for a guy like me who does not care about looks at all… They tend to be boring

        1. Actually, Laura Dale is pretty spot on with what she says.
So i have little doubt in my mind that what she says is true.
But that being said, i don’t blame you for wanting to wait for Nintendo just out and say it.

        1. Thought about it but haven’t tried yet. Looks like just the console set up is going for about $150-175 on ebay. Throw in a game or 2 and it breaks $200.

      2. That is the price point i am willing to pay for.
People argue with me all the time about it.. but the fact of the matter is.. the pricing of the Wii is what helped propel it.
Keeping this thing at a lower price than the competition is the right way to go.

      3. We’ll have to wait for the Nintendo Switch Conference in January to see if this is true. Take everything the internet says with a pinch of salt, until we get official details from the company themselves.

      4. I’ll have to wait to know the price of USA but since in 2 months will be revealed more about the Switch I will take it easy.

      5. If the basic is around 250 while the one that is 300 only costing more because of more internal memory & a game, I worry that the Switch is under powered compared to a regular PS4 which also goes for 300 bucks. Honestly, I don’t like the sound of this at all. :/

Hopefully the full reveal in January will give me a reason to not worry if this pricing is 100% accurate.

      6. Nintendo has stated that they won’t sell the Switch at a loss – which means they’re lying, or the console is going to be comparable in specs to the PS4/XBone…or maybe even weaker – unless they found some way of making a competitively powered console for much cheaper, but I doubt it.

        1. Also keep in mind that the Wii U’s gamepad was the most expensive part of the console. If the Switch packs more hardware into it than the Wii U, which it damn well better, it’ll increase the cost to make a great deal, which, if they do sell it at $250, means the console itself will take a hit in performance.

          1. I disagree with you and here my arguments.
            – Firstly components released 2 or 5 years ago are cheaper today.
            – So far I know most of the Switch components are standard expect for the GPU.
            – Nvidia says they selling the GPU at lost but hope they will get they money back if the volume of Switch Nintendo will sell is big (my guess is 45-50M units).
            – The console I do believe cost $150-$200 to make as it does not have an optical reading and does not need blu ray which would have cost much more than that.
            – A PS4 or an Xbox 1 is cheaper to make now than it was 2 or 3 years ago.
            – Nintendo has always been very good at heat dissipation and they don’t have to compromise in the performance departement.

Why especially in US, you guys think that because it cheap the performance is poor? Why you guys don’t believe Nintendo maneged to get an equal performance at a lower price (I really don’t understand that mentality). Also from a logical business view, Nintendo needs to re-capture gamers and casuals. If you put the price that high like what happened with the Wii U, more people will vote with their feet.

            1. Components are cheaper today than before, but new technology continues to come out which will still be expensive for a while, as happens with all new technology. So if Nintendo does put new and better tech into it, it’ll drive up the price. The exclusion of a disc drive will probably help lower costs a bit, but for them to have a high tech portable screen to play console games on will cost a pretty penny to make – unless it IS using tech from 2-5 years ago, in which case it’ll already be under-powered.
And things that are cheap are usually poor in performance because….they are. Better materials usually cost more money, and the time needed to make something goes up when you want to ensure it lasts longer. Welcome to product development 101.

              1. Lol sorry to be blunt but you don’t seems to know much about products development. Bear in mind the switch is rumoured to be on pair with an xbox 1. Do you think the components use on an xbox are 2 years old? Also in electronic you tend to use products which are known to be reliable and “old” components or products does not mean less performance. In every company they try to make sure each components are available for 10 years and in the life cycle of the product they will have to do an ECO. Just 2 example to argue my case If you take a Ssd crucial Bx100 and a Bx200 you would think the Bx200 is better? Well you are wrong. The same apply for a Samsung Evo 850 and 750. New doesn’t necessarily means more performance. I believe Nintendo managed to make a console in pair with a PS4 for cheaper to due the price of the components and the design of the system itself.

              2. Can I also correct you on one thing.Nintendo don’t use new technology so far I know but newer components. It’s not like Nintendo use an OLED screen or an SSD drive. Again you miss my point about fabrication and components cost. If you do a tear down on tablets you will see they are nothing new in term of technology. Same goes for a Ps3. Vs PS4. They just have better components.

                1. lol you can theorycraft all you want, but I’m sticking with what is actually realistic and what tech companies will rely on, and having worked at several game and tech companies, I’ll take what I know more than what you do. As far as the Xbox One components being 2 years old, the original console was released in 2013, so yeah….they’re also outdated the moment the console was released, given the tech cycle and how advancements in tech happen. In comparison to NEW tech, yes – yes that DOES mean less performance in general, aside from a few outliers that were future-proofed or had more investment and development put in to ensure such future-proofing. Regardless, development on the next best thing never stops, even if the advancement is small in comparison to its previous iteration. Otherwise companies would never release newer iterations of products every year (or less), and people wouldn’t buy them.
I’m not sure you’re making any sense with differentiating between “new tech” and “new components” or if it’s just your lack of understanding of the English language – nor do you make any sense with your comment on the PS3 vs. PS4. When I say “new tech” I don’t mean a huge advancement like going from the SNES to N64/Playstation. The cell processor for the former is far outclassed by the PS4’s processor. The PS4’s GDDR5 ram is incomparable to the PS3’s ram. Not sure why this is so difficult to understand for you.
My whole point is that if Nintendo uses outdated or older tech, regardless of whether it is reliable, it’ll be weaker in performance than the new Xbox One S and PS4 Pro – and that’s based on them not wanting to sell it at a loss, based on their own words. So you can be blunt all you want, but your understanding of product development seems to be lacking.

                  1. Whoa you do flex your muscles by saying: “I worked in game and the tech company”. Well if you want to play that game I am an engineer and developing products which implies I may know one or two thing about developing products. Anyway you maybe an English born but you are confuse about Components and technology progress furthermore you certainly didn’t get my point (it’s Ok since I am not English). I think we will have to disagree on that one mate. Btw DDR3 and DDR5 is a component update, Hdd and Ssd is technology update like Crt and LED screen. If you get that you get my point but giving your answer I have some doubts.

                      1. Well we go into politic mode here. One thing I noticed is your choice of words. What do you mean by “foreigners”? Do you mean people who leave outside US or people who are not English born. I am very interested in your answer. If you think of me as arrogant well you should read again your post(hints pointing the fact I am not English born and my supposed misunderstanding of English language). I am just defending a point of view which is different than yours that’s all.

      8. well that is more realistic price, if it’s GAME retailer explaining how much they going to carge then we can expect £10 less from other retailers.

To be honest I will be very happy and suprise to see the switch being region free, that will be one of the good decision Nintendo never take.

Just for the North America blokes who are not used to European pricing, the price include the VAT.
