Tencent has bought a minority stake on Playtonic. Playtonic is a UK developer and publisher, and they are the ones behind Yooka-Laylee. Because of this investment, GamesIndustry says that Playtonic will be able to “more than double its headcount” and “expand to three development teams”.
It is also going to help the studio create some more games. Although details about these games were very little, it was mentioned that one of the games will be a sequel to Yooka-Laylee, which released in 2017. It will not be a sequel to the most recent game to release in the franchise, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, which was released in 2019.
So a sequel to the bad first game, not the second one (which was actually good)?
Just because it was a 3D collect-a-thon, doesn’t mean it was bad. Just because the game had flaws on day one, doesn’t mean they didn’t fix it with an update.
Just because the first game was pure mediocrity doesn’t mean the sequel will be.
And because of that Tencent investment I won’t go anywhere near that game. Tencent is a blight on the industry.
I’m more impressed Playton, who has far less money than Nintendo, is going to be making a sequel in less than 7 years while Nintendo, who has billions in the bank, cant get off their lazy behind and start a sequel right away.
This beat the gap between Ukalayle getting a sequel vs. PIKMIN 3 to Pikmin 4.
And where is the sequel to Tropical Freeze Nintendo?
That’s Nintendo make one game and wait 15 years to work again. Must be nice to get paid and dont do nothing for 10 years or more.
