Overwatch 2 off to strong start with 35 million playing game in first month

Activision Blizzard has said that Overwatch 2 has been a huge success with the game having double the player count than the original Overwatch during its first month. The company did point out the obvious, that this could be due to the fact that the Overwatch 2 is free-to-play, whereas the original was a full game. In total, 35 million people have played Overwatch 2, which is a huge number and means that the game averages one million players per day. Overwatch 2 had a very rocky launch with DDoS attacks making it near impossible for players to log-in and play and also some players content from the original hadn’t transferred over, though both issues were eventually resolved after a couple of days. Overwatch 2 is available on the Nintendo eShop.

  1. 35 million is impressive, but yeah it’s a F2P AAA title. As impressive as 35 million is I’m not really surprised that it has a huge player base. Either way reaching the 35 million miles stone is still an accomplishment.

  2. Let’s hope that not too many of those 35 million gave in and spent $30 on any of those overpriced skins, so that Blizzard will be goaded into lowering their prices.
