Sonic the Hedgehog character designer, Naoto Ohshima, has shared some very early concept art of of the speedy blue blur on Twitter. Sonic was originally a young boy with spiky blue hair who eventually morphed into the Sonic we know and love. Mr. Ohshima also shared that he original concept was for “an action game about twin brothers who protect the dream world from Nightmare World’s boss, Thirteen. You can also see that the nature in the background is similar to that seen in the first stage of Sonic the Hedgehog, Green Hill Zone,

  1. The stuff about the Dream world, twins, the embodiment of nightmares and humans becoming the hero that fights against nightmares sounds very Nights-esque. It’s always interesting to see earlier concepts that were rejected or shelved get reworked later down the line.

  2. Sega being bought by Nintendo would have been and could be the greatest thing ever. Imagine that twin kids game being made by Sora’s talent and Masahiro Sakurai. Or Sonic the hedgehog game by Nintendo’s EPD 🤔😁😎 🎮. It’s a wonderful world that now Sega kids and is Nintendo kids can play on one console.

      1. Nintendo made sonic amazing in Smash brothers. Imagine with Nintendo’s talent how great 😌 sonic would be.

  3. I would like to see many of these pre-Sonic concept designs repurposed in a Banjo-Kazooie-style platformer starring Big the Cat, taking place in a dream world, instead of shoving him into Sonic plots where the rest of the VG community tear into him for not being on par with Sonic and everyone else roughly close to his gameplay.
