One of the surprise titles featured at the Summer Game Fest was the reveal of a new Sonic the Hedgehog game, Sonic Superstars. The game, which is developed by original Sonic character designer’s studio, Arzest, has a wonderful art-style and impressions from the show floor have been promising. IGN Japan recently spent some hands on time with the fast-paced 2D platformer and have captured some direct feed footage for your viewing pleasure. Sonic Superstars launches later this year on multiple platforms including the Nintendo Switch.

        1. Seriously boomers really didnt play video games. They were too old and thought video games were only for kids.

  1. Can some explain what a fake fan is by definition and feel free and elaborate. I’ve never heard of such nonsense as a “fake fan”

    1. As someone who played Generations and Forces and thought “man i wish there was a game of just Classic sonic sections”, i am happy with this and its about what i expected. Its certainly not going to have the charms of Mania, but just like with Mega Man 11, im glad to finally have a main entry classic series game attempted with 3D graphics even if just once to see it.

As for why people probably find in dull, and i sympathize, its just not looking very inspired. Yeah, it doesn’t use the same old zones, in name, but its all the same themed stages we have seen before. The music is also kinda generic in a “this sounds retro, right kids?” way. Very much this looks like New Super Mario Bros for Sonic, rather then capturing the true style of the 16bit games that were limited by their hardware. Those classic soundtracks were emulating real world music genres, they were not just generic chip tunes most of the time and they always tried new zone themes, while some shared similarities in the first level.

All in all it looks excellent for a modern sonic team creation and its probably best for them to play it safe with their track record, but it does feel very uninspired. Something done like Rayman Origins or Wario Land Shake with drawn animated sprites and getting a composer like say whoever did Demon’s Turf, would be a good start on making a true modern successor to the old games spirit.

      1. I do believe the tracks I’ve heard this far are straight from Sonic 4. Seems the music isn’t ready or they simply don’t want to show it yet. They do have a tendency to post their tracks on social media, so they may be saving them for later marketing.

  2. This actually does look like Sonic Rayman. Kinda that perfectly smooth shiny flawless generic boring inorganic plastic feel. A Sonic simulacrum. But I had to turn off the music just in the short clip it was really bad. Gameplay seems ok. But then , it’s also $60. Ooof.
