Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has chatted with Japanese news site The Nikkei about the Nintendo Switch and the company’s plans going forward. Mr. Furukawa says that they are still working on Nintendo Switch software which will release by the fiscal year ending March 2025. So the system will continue to be supported with new software until then. In the meantime they will presumably launch their successor to the original Nintendo Switch platform sometime in 2024 though that wasn’t explicably said.
Q: Can the life cycle of Switch be extended further?
A: We are still working on Switch software for the fiscal year ending March 2025. The momentum will be sustained to continue expanding the Switch business. In the fiscal year ending March 2024, we will maintain the momentum of Zelda and Movie into the holiday sales season. In terms of hardware, we will maximize demands not only for new purchases but also for second units and replacements.

“Zelda and Movie”?
This is translated but he’s obviously talking about this year. Like the Mario movie and Tears of the kingdom
We already know this given Luigi’s Mansion 2 and Paper Mario TTYD are announced to be releasing in that financial year. But obviously these are remakes and not indicative of strong support for the console. I do think Metroid Prime 4 will release on Switch as a cross-gen game given this game was promised for the Switch. It may very well be the last major release for the console.
Yes, but devices are supported after their successor launches. This isn’t proof that a successor isn’t going to be announced/released in that time.
Indeed. I hope next year is when the Switch 2 releases cuz my Switch is wearing down more and more.
If there is no official announcement by January-March 2024, the successor of the switch will not be released in 2024.Si they do like the switch, we will have a few words in September 2024, a presentation in January 2025 for a release in March 2025 but I hope rather a few words in March, presentation in September and a release in December 2024 but with Nintendo we are never sure of anything….
I don’t want to see any more Zelda stuff and it’s getting old and annoying, I want to see more N64 Games and dlc for Mario Party Superstars
Zelda stuff is never old and annoying. I do agree that I want to see other stuff, granted it has been and will end being a great year for Nintendo yet again.
Sorry about that, I’m not a big Zelda fan, I need to keep my opinions to myself.
You misread his comments, he was referring to Tears of the Kingdom this year, not a new zelda game next year
Well my Switch is still in perfect condition since launch. Hopefully, they will have some replacements and multiple supplies ready by next year so they can be fully prepared for their next machine without no mishaps or whenever.
This comes as very little surprise, and provides no deterrent to the possibility of new hardware releasing middle to late next year. Every [modern] Nintendo console is supported for some span of years even after the next hardware is released. I wholeheartedly believe that a new Nintendo console will release next year (possibly around the month of September) in preparation for a major 2024 holiday season. Nintendo is fully aware of their declining sales of the Switch, and it seems as though the general mood from Nintendo’s higher-ups is that 2023 “holiday season” is their last hurrah with Switch sales. Beyond that point, they will be in full gear to move on to the next console.
I honestly still believe they will do a full blown 10 years before the switch 2, I don’t expect to hear any successor news until 2026, Nintendo are happy with what they have, and are in no hurry of moving to the next system. We still have Metroid prime 2 and 3 remakes hopefully releasing over the next 2 years, with sprinkles of surprises in between, I think Mario Oddesy 2 may come out in the holidays next year. Then a new smaller Zelda project the year after. We could be seeing a lot more GameCube remakes over the next 3 years. Then they can also focus on bringing more 3ds and Wii titles over like Mario Galaxy 2. Whatever happens I do not expect the switch 2 next year at all.
The devkits for Switch 2 were already out to several Top-Tier devs since the start of this year. I fully expect 2024 holiday as the launch date. It’s not like Nintendo will just flat out stop supporting the original Switch when the successor comes out.
