The next installment in the Famicom Detective Club series is on its way! Investigate a crime and unmask the truth in a dark, twisted thriller when the Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club game launches on the Nintendo Switch system Aug. 29.

In Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club, a student has been found dead in a chilling fashion, his head covered with a paper bag with an eerie smiling face drawn on it. This unsettling visage bears a striking resemblance to a recurring clue in a string of unsolved murders from 18 years ago, as well as Emio (the Smiling Man), a killer of urban legend who is said to grant his victims “a smile that will last forever.”

Play the role of an assistant private investigator with Utsugi Detective Agency, where you are tasked with helping police solve this crime. Along the way, scrutinize the clues and testimonies you gather for potential connections to the gruesome events of the past.

Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club is the first new Famicom Detective Club story in 35 years. This title follows the previously released first and second installments in the series, most recently remade for the Nintendo Switch system: Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir and Famicom Detective Club: The Girl Who Stands Behind. Learn more about this new installment from series producer Yoshio Sakamoto, who was involved from the plot foundations to the small details of the script and cutscenes:

Has a serial killer returned, or is this the work of a copycat? Are these crimes inspired by the Smiling Man story, or the origin of it? These answers and more will be discovered as you investigate in Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club.

    1. It was already really cool that we got translations of these games, and now we get a sequel too. Very nice.

  1. Lol… everyone was expecting a real Horror title from Nintendo. Tens of millions of people were excitet for this. But we get a cringe anime-story adventure game with light hearted characters. The internet is gonna be so disappointed and shares will probably go down a bit after this announcement. Very bad marketing.

    1. Seems like it was great marketing if it got you and a lot of other people to take interest in the game. Just saying.

      1. It did make the whole world talk, but… it made the world talk about a new HORROR title from Nintendo. Not about a light-hearted anime-novel game. This is effective marketing – yes. But very misleading and it may hurt the game’s sales greatly.

    2. The first two were good murder mysteries, and I love that Nintendo is finally reviving their VN series. Normies like you seething because it’s not your run of the mill horror game makes it all the more seething.

      1. Right. It’s one thing to not like VNs. It’s another thing to say that this game is “lighthearted” or “not mature” just because it has a “cringe” anime artstyle. The former is just an opinion, but the latter is factually untrue.

  2. Oh nice. I still need to play the remakes they released a few years ago. Will definitely play this one. I love me a good ghost murder mystery

  3. You know you dont have to play every nintendo published game? Remember boys, video games dont make up for a lack of personality or success.

    1. And posting bait in the comments of this article won’t make up for the fact that your parents never loved you :)

  4. AAWWWWWWW MAAAAAANNN… Not gonna lie, pretty disappointed, the whole detailed 3d model, the whole mistery behind it. I was expecting a 3D Horror game, oh well, happy for the FDC fans i guess.
