Digital downloads may dominate the video games industry these days, but the market for physical video game is still there, and hopefully won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. Capcom has confirmed its commitment to the physical game space saying that a “significant number of end users demand physical games” which means that the company has no plans to just release its games digitally like some.
Q: The ratio of physical game sales is decreasing as end user needs for digital is increasing.
What is your outlook on physical games and the company’s policy regarding this?
A Given that a significant number of end users demand physical games we currently do not
expect to eliminate physical products.

Just rhetoric. No time line is given. The day will come, later, hopefully.
I wish I could be optimistic enough to disagree with you.
Based on the insomniac leaks, physical and digital sales on sony systems is about a equal 50/50 split. Nintendo systems would likely be even higher in favor of physical. Many of the statistics released are misleading because they are lumping ALL digital sales together, not just games.(dlc, subscriptions, microtransactions)
I would say we are actually in a better place for physical sales then we were in the 7th gen. There are constantly new releases coming out weekly. There is a point where even if digital sales did outweigh physical, the physical buying market reaches a point where it likely wont decrease much any further from the significant portion of those who only buy physical.
The physical game is really mine until it breaks and I have to buy another one…
*smallest carts possible with large required downloads.
It’d be cool if they supported physical copies of megaman 9 and 10… just sayin…
