Nintendo is now 135 years old, having endured as both a business and an innovator since its founding on September 23,1889 during the Meiji Era.
You likely know the story already, but Fusajiro Yamauchi started off Nintendo as a Hanafuda trading card company in 1889 before expanding it into other lines of business, including hospitality (allegedly) and toy-making, and then eventually letting it find its calling with video games in the 1970s.
And the company couldn’t have made its entrance at a better time, with its Nintendo Entertainment System being widely hailed as the “saviour” of the video game industry during the Video Game Crash of 1983.
From there, it went on to invent the directional pad or d-pad as we know it, start off the age of 3D gaming in style with Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, bring families together to play on the Nintendo Wii, and is now getting ready to put its latest console- the second best-selling video game system of all time- to rest, with a follow-up in the works.

One of my fondest memories was staying up till 3:00 in the morning when I was a young kid playing super Mario bros 3 and right now I’m buzzing for the switch 2 reveal!
My fondest memory was when my dad got stationed over overseas in Okinawa for the military and he brought back an NES my 1st ever Nintendo system.
Lots of fondest memories, but the number one has to be playing Ocarina of Time as a kid and having my mind completely blown by the shift to 3D environments. Just cannot wait for the Switch 2!!!
One of my fondest Nintendo memories was going with my mom to SEARS and going straight to the gaming section and seeing a line of kids trying out the latest SNES games.
My fondest memories of “the Big N” were probably playing Nintendo 64, GameCube, and Wii games with my cousins, sister, and eventually, my college roommates. Others include playing Pokémon on the Game Boy line with my buddies and when I discovered Lunar Magic and developed my own mod of Super Mario World, which was magical. And as a commenter said above, I am very much looking forward the reveal of Nintendo’s next console!

135 years is a very longtime for Nintendo. My fondness memories of Nintendo was the SNES back in the late 90s or between the 2000s. My very first Nintendo console and still have memories of it till this day. If I remember correctly, the first game I ever played was Super Mario Kart which is one of the classics I ever endured in that era.
I have tons of great memories, but one of my earliest was playing super Mario World at my cousins house, it really blew my mind, eventually getting a snes console and the game myself which my uncle brought me for Christmas.
I eventually found out that I loved Mario bros 3 alot more then mario world after getting Mario allstars later, but Mario World is still an early comforting memory in my mind.
I eventually loved donkey Kong country 2 and yoshi’s island as my favourite games of all time which they still are, but ocarina of time will always be a magical experience which I will always treasure, and still love that game alot.
Then Mario Galaxy came and will always be for me Nintendo’s greatest game ever, nothing will ever beat it.
My fondest memory must be playing Pokémon on the GameBoy with my friends.
Being able to bring it to school and playing during the breaks was amazing back then.
Another memory that sticks in my head is when my science teacher back in the first year of comp school ( about 11 hrs old) confiscated my gameboy and then half way through the lesson started playing it. Ace.
