There’s a big spotlight on Nintendo right now, as the company is on the verge of unveiling their next console. So, people are paying close attention to just about everything that Nintendo is doing. For example, there’s something that Nintendo has filed to the Federal Communications Commission, or FCC, earlier this weekend.
The company has filed for a CLO-001 model with a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi radio and a 24GHz mmWave sensor. It isn’t tagged with any gaming-related terms, but it is tagged as a “wireless device”. The 001 code number also implies to be a completely new product line, as Nintendo has already used the 001 code number for the Switch (HAC-001) and the Nintendo DS (NTR-001). The device also apparently has no battery, no body-worn accessories, and you must have it plugged in to operate it. It is mentioned that this device can be powered by USB-C.
So, what is this device? Well, it’s hard to say. Some theories are that it’s related to Super Nintendo World. Another theory is that it is some kind of gesture control interface. It could also be related to AR features. It is even suggested that it might be related to things that Nintendo tried more than a decade ago, such as the company’s “Quality of Life” sleep tracking initative. Whatever it is, it’s going to get a lot of attention until Nintendo finally reveals their next generation hardware.

One of the theories surrounding Switch 2 is that the USB-C port on top of it is for plugging in various peripherals. It’s a long-shot but this could be one of those? I guess I’m not entirely sure why such a thing would have Wi-Fi when the Switch already has Wi-Fi, but maybe there’s some good reason that I don’t understand for that.
A wireless device that requires a wire to operate? Tee hee.
The model numbers usually mean something.
It has to mean something is going on. Maybe a device connects to another.
That mmWace sensor is a Human Static Presence sensor. They’re used for motion detection and health monitoring
Wireless device that requires no battery or accessories? Sounded more like Nintendo is trying something different for a change. Interesting.
I hope it’s something you sit on that gets warm and vibrates.
Could it be the new switch dock?
THE SWITCH ATTACH.
THE SWITCH ATTACH IS REAAAAAAAAAAALLLL
It’s a security camera: the Nintendo Snitch.
