(Update) Nobuo Uematsu retiring from composing gaming music after Fantasian

Update: Nobuo Uematsu says he isn’t retiring from composing video game music, just cutting down a bit to pursue personal projects

By now, you’re more than likely aware of Fantasian Neo Dimension. The game is an enhanced version of Fantasian, which was released by Square Enix in 2021. Fantasian Neo Dimension was officially confirmed to be releasing on the Nintendo Switch on December 5th, so it isn’t that long before the game will be launching.

That all said, the game’s launch will be a little bittersweet. The game’s music composer, Nobuo Uematsu, has announced that Fantasian Neo Dimension will be his final game as the composer of video gaming music. Uematsu’s resume of composing music for video games goes back almost 4 decades. He’s most notable for being the composer of various Final Fantasy soundtracks. You can see a special message he shared on social media down below.

  1. I mean he has been composing for like 4 decades so he deserves the retirement but it is sad he’s leaving. That being said I hope he enjoys his retirement.

  2. Jackson Bentley-Dyches

dang, this is actually pretty big news. Easily a top 5 influential composers in gaming and the brilliant mind behind so many timeless classics. Good for him, and even though I think it would make a little more sense for him to wrap up with the final entry in the FF7 remake trilogy, he’s done more than enough to leave his legacy. Personally, I think my favorite theme he’s made is still the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Main Theme. That has to be one of the most purely epic compositions ever penned!
