In an interview with Nippon Television News, a spokesperson for Nintendo explained why the company made the Nintendo Music app- which lets Nintendo Switch Online members listen to music from Nintendo classics both old and new in the palm of their hands.
Roughly translated, here’s what Nintendo shared with the news outlet:
“We believe that game music is an important and valuable piece of content in order to expand the number of people who have access to Nintendo IPs and Nintendo Music is a service that allows us to deliver this game music in a way that is unique to Nintendo. You can enjoy the unique features of Nintendo Music, such as being able to enjoy music along with screenshots, and being provided with playlists based not only on game titles, but also on various game-related themes and perspectives, such as ‘characters’ and ‘music during battles.’ We believe that if Nintendo Music reminds you of your favorite gaming experiences, it will also inspire you to want to play the games again.”
The latest inclusion to the app has been the soundtrack for Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
It joins the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Mario Galaxy, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and many more of Nintendo’s games that have had their soundtracks added to the app.
Have you tried Nintendo Music yet? Do you have any thoughts on what it does well or where it stumbles? Feel free to discuss in the comments below.

Yesterday I fell asleep with the good night playlist. Pretty awesome. Pretty neat to have all the Nintendo music in one app
Tentri, by your own admission, using the Alarmo for Nintendo sounds to wake up makes you a ‘manchild,’ but using Nintendo lullabies to fall asleep is peak adulthood? Got it.
yes.
free app on your phone with relaxing music vs overpriced toy that scans so when you move around it makes mario coins.
”BU BU BU BUT IT’S STILL NINTENDO”
not the same thing.
too bad they don’t tell you who composed it
very dumb and rude
Not really you parrot nerd.

The quote makes it seem their main motive is to get you to play (pay for) the games again. We’ll see, but that and the fact the composers aren’t listed do not inspire confidence in me. As always it is better than nothing with Nintendo features.
Why not just put it on Youtube or Spofity, i can listen to music on Youtube with the occasional ad.
Usually I would agree but you can literally download the songs and listen to them offline without ads, without having to fork over so much unnecessary money for a membership like Spotify or YouTube music.
I didn’t read the whole article. We all know why they created it in the first place.
Well I suppose its biggest stumble is the same one the Switch NSO apps have: why so little at launch? Nintendo has hundreds of games and just as many soundtracks yet only like 14 are available Day 1?
One big win I’ll give it is that it has Wii Channel music. Not just the iconic Wii Shop Channel music either- Check Mii Out, Everybody Votes, etc. I thought they’d been forgotten.
Yeah I agree the hugest thing I dislike about this is the drip feed, they been making games for decades idk why they think having so little at launch would makes us get bored of it so quick.
dude. every app for the nso is barebones at the start, im not saying it’s good cause it’s absolute shit don’t get me wrong but yeah, this is not the first time they put something on nso that lacked in content, do you remember how fucking garbage the n64 nso app was? not only it was barebones but the emulation was horrid
I don’t mind the drip feed in this instance. If they ever retire NSO & start over from scratch (AGAIN!! Ugh! 😡) with the virtual console, they can simply tie Nintendo Music to the next online thingy since it’s not named after NSO. (They could do the bloody same with the VC but Nintendo has to do NintenD’oh! things sometimes. Making dumb decisions was part of their brand long before it became popular with every other company. Fingers crossed they actually prove me wrong. 😭)
“in order to expand the number of people who have access to Nintendo IPs”
Total BS. You need an NSO subscription to use the app. If this was their goal they wouldve allowed everything to stay on youtube.
“In a way that is unique to Nintendo”.
The funny thing is… Nintendo Music is a clone of Spotify but exclusively plays Nintendo music. 🤣
Nintendo’s move to create the Nintendo Music app is a brilliant way to connect players with its iconic gaming heritage. By offering music from classics like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Super Mario Galaxy alongside newer titles, it ensures fans can relive their favorite moments in a unique, interactive way. Features like thematic playlists and screenshots are a clever touch, bridging nostalgia and engagement.
If you’re a fan of creating content or reliving game-inspired creativity, apps like InShot can be perfect for pairing your favorite Nintendo tracks with personalized video or photo edits. It’s another way to bring your gaming memories to life!
