As we reported yesterday, stores have started to receive Nintendo Switch 2 consoles ahead of the launch on 5th June. Someone who managed to grab one from an undisclosed retailer has revealed that the console is unplayable as it needs a Day One update to function, so it’s technically unusable. You can check out the very swift unboxing video of the Nintendo Switch 2 down below.
Nintendo Switch 2 out in the wild though locked behind Day One update

Look’s like i called it even tho it’s unplayable without the day one update
“Wonder how many will be sold early before the official June 5th release date”
just got one, you’re right
Yes, you did call it, it was foolish of people to think it wouldn’t get out early.
I knew this is going to happen. People are so stupid to think they can play the system right away before everyone else does after getting it early. They are not so slick.
Everyone reporting on it gonna get this dude caught like the first guy who uploaded the whole switch setup walkthrough and menu a week before it came out,.
Yeah I’m very much aware of that procedure. People need to understand that even if you got their games early, they still won’t let you play the system or the game until it’s released worldwide in retailers.
I hope it has some sort of thing to know S2 wasn’t out in the wild yet and banned the system or flagged it for later banning once it connects to the net.
Regardless of how you feel about it Nintendo is 4 parallel universes ahead of sellers/vendors, 500 IQ play on their part.
Though luck, you losers! 😆😆😆
People are definitely stupid… believing that one can disregard a release date without consequences is just completely idiotic… then we shouldn’t be surprised that Nintendo is taking increasingly drastic measures, but those I know here will say ‘yeah, Nintendo are tyrants’ while they don’t understand that Nintendo is not acting illegally unlike others, right?I can’t wait to see the whinings of players when they see that those who got the console before the release date were able to dismantle it and put it on YouTube have faced Nintendo’s wrath…
.I can understand Nintendo’s thinking but that means You need Internet in order to play the console and once Switch 2 Online is discontinued in the future, all factory reset or unopened consoles will be unplayable and useless. I think Nintendo should be sued for this but we all know how that’s go. “Your Honor, Joycon Drift does not exist” Nintendo Wins the case
N
You are the only one here who gets it. I made a post about it, but for whatever reason it didn’t go through, so who knows if mods delete posts not entirely dedicated to sucking off the big N. Hopefully the post just means the guy couldn’t get on the eShop. Otherwise this is just as bad as the Xbox One BS.
If I had a nickel for everyone dumb enough to think that every Switch 2 produced will ship with the launch firmware, I’d have 2 nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird how it happened twice.
You mean like how Microsoft removed the online activation requirements for later manufactured Xbone consoles?
It’s not online activation. It’s firmware. Obviously new consoles are gonna ship with updated firmware…
A system that wont function without a mandatory firmware download, is absolutely online activation. At the very least we can hope if you stick a launch game card in the system and turn it on, it will also include the firmware.
So, basically you’re throwing a fit over the like two people who are buying this at launch but don’t have Internet and saying it’s as bad as permanently requiring an online connection and account by design… Some of you people just like to complain.
Seriously, who is buying this AT LAUNCH without an internet connection? Don’t be ridiculous.
So its bad when Microsoft does it,but not Nintendo? Ok, buddy. It’s a grim day when supposed Nintendo fans are defending hardware dependent on an online activation. This entire system in place is the equivalent of cutting off your nose to spite your face. If its only two or so randos who will get a Switch 2 before launch, why design your entire hardware around that what-if scenario? I’m guessing you are cool with the game-key trash as well.
…
Ok, so, what should Nintendo do then? Recall all of the hardware and delay the launch to make sure that all of the launch units have this firmware?
And for the record, I’ll 100% agree with you if this extends beyond launch. But one question: How are you preordering this without an internet connection?
And now it’s confirmed that Switch 2 games have the firmware on-cart. Good ragebait 10/10
They do and it’s extremely immature and unprofessional. Great site for News but they obviously favor certain users here and delete many posts from everyone besides those five or so same users that you see comment peisong Nintendo on every article.
Praising, just woke up, half asleep typing
So, you feel that Nintendo should have allowed leaks because a couple of people might preorder without Internet? How do you even preorder without Internet?
And now it’s confirmed that Switch 2 games have the firmware on-cart. Good ragebait 10/10
A factory reset doesn’t revert firmware, and obviously units shipped after launch will have newer firmware.
Interesting to see the Nintendo Switch 2 already landing in stores ahead of the June 5 launch, though it’s no surprise that it’s locked behind a mandatory Day One update. This kind of move is likely Nintendo’s way of preventing leaks and keeping early access in check. While it’s tempting to get an early unit, without the update, it’s essentially a paperweight for now.
It’s always exciting to see new hardware show up early, and the Nintendo Switch 2 is no exception. While it’s disappointing that the console is essentially bricked until the Day One update drops, it makes sense from Nintendo’s standpoint to ensure everything is locked down and polished before launch. This kind of move also helps prevent leaks or premature software access.
