SEGA president: “Sonic kind of exists as a symbol for SEGA”

The Sonic crew

The Sonic the Hedgehog series has had both lows and highs throughout the years for SEGA, but it’s still what they deem to be the company’s flagship franchise. In a new interview SEGA president Shuji Utsumi touched on the importance of the series for SEGA saying that if the series does well then the entire company benefits. While we’ve yet to see what’s next for the Sonic series after the mixed Sonic Frontiers, the series is a huge priority for the Japanese company.

How beneficial Sonic is for SEGA:

“Sonic kind of exists as a symbol for SEGA, if Sonic is doing well, then I think the whole company will do well too. Actually, certain developments were only made possible because the Sonic movie did so well, and we hope to be able to use this and connect it to the success of our other IPs.”

Meeting company goals:

“I think last year was pretty tough. As we already talked about, there was the difficulty with Rovio, and we had aimed for global development expansion of Sonic related titles, but didn’t reach our goal. The new Sonic game was well made, and honestly I had wanted it to sell more. Taking those results into account, we are now proceeding with measures to ‘add more selling power to each title’.”

  1. It’s worrying for them to say Sonic has become an existence.

I agree, the movies are the only link to Sonic now, the games don’t hold up anymore.

    1. The movies are rated really well so yes, good sign for future stuff.

Also they should do what the fans want, SA1-2 remakes with some changes and then SA3 and go from there.
