Satoru Iwata previously stated that Nintendo is not planning to change its strategy. Nintendo doesn’t care about what its direct competition, Microsoft and Sony, are doing in terms of graphical performance. Wii U hardware producer Katsuya Eguchi’s words echo Iwata’s. According to Eguchi, Nintendo’s goals remain the same – it wants to continue creating entertainment and surprising customers with unique products.

I know or a fact that when people think of gaming Nintendo is the first name that comes to mind, if not it’s one of their flagship characters. For most it’s Mario, for others it Link, Samus etc. Leave luck to heaven.
unfortunately, that’s not necessarily true anymore. Almost every kid under the age of 14 or any parent with a kid of said age range will tell me something like CoD or Halo. I don’t have a problem with it.. I just hate that people don’t even know the roots of gaming anymore or how it works as an art just because that’s all that’s advertised these days: Shooters.
I have myself been disappointed when some of those younger than ones self ask some rather unfortunate questions….

Im playing Prime 1 at the moment, 2 more artifacts, then Ridley :D im not enjoyin it as much as 3 though, 3 was more varied and i liked visiting alien planets, you get the feel that youre really exploring. Havent played 2 though, i just know its hard amd people call it the Majoras Mask of Metroid
hm I was never a really big fan of metroid and didnt play 1 and 2 and just picked up 3. I know how bad that sounds but it was well worth it. I just wish the planets had a bit more free roam to them but non-the-less amazing
Seriously,buy the trilogy game for the Wii. Prime 1 is awesome, it doesnt have that, ” first game” sequel. Plays exactly like 3. Im guessing 2 is sort of in between.
Also buy Super Metroid (virtual console) and Metroid Fusion (GBA). Awesomegames, my favourite games ever

Because it’s not necessarily true. When you look at that stack of machines you see 4 consoles that went toe to toe with rival hardware. The only home console Nintendo has released that hasn’t been technologically up-to-date has been the Wii, and now the WiiU is looking like it’s going to be another console that will be lower specced than the rest of its generation. Based on speculation of course. We won’t know for sure until the WiiU is out, people have seen the innards for themselves, and the official PS4/Xbox720 specs have been released, but it’s definitely looking like the WiiU will be significantly less powerful.
Does this mean I’m hating on the WiiU? No, because I believe that the leap to HD was the last big graphical advance in gaming and we are at a point where if graphics advance much further then we are going to be in a situation where only huge companies with multi million $/£/etc budgets will be able to afford to make games. This is why I’m saving up for the WiiU and the Ouya – because the WiiU’s idea of assymetrical multiplayer is something I’ve been excited about for a long time, and because the Ouya will be a hotbed for indie talent that would not otherwise get the chance to release fully fledged console games (providing it lives up to its promise).
But either way, the statement about Nintendo’s goals having not changed is disingenuous, as regardless of their goals, their technological focus has changed significantly.
I think I have to disagree with you at a certain point. Nintendo’s technology focus has as I’ve seen been focused on gameplay first hand all the time. Back in the days when they competed about graphics and power that was necessairy for the gameplay itself. Games could not be long because of limits, they could not have 3d enviorments because of limits. Today the powerlimit is so high that a little gap doesn’t make a big difference on gameplay. Because the gap will in the practise not be that big as most developers will not be able to use any of the systems to their fullest degree. Atleast not in 4-5 years and then I expect them to be working on a new console soon.
Nintendo’s hardware has really never been better than anyone elses hardware at any specific generation. Sure there were some specs better than others but there are also others at the time that totally put the Nintendo to shame when it come to graphics and power. This is a fact. Nintendo however has always improved upon their previous system by how the hardware was used (especially gameplay and creativity) and this always brought the most joy to gamers. This is especially true of their HANDHELD devices. Not one Nintendo Portable has ever been more powerful than any directly competitive system out in the market. Not One and infact every Nintendo portable has been a slight upgrade from the previous system since Gameboy to 3DS – GB, GBC, GBA, NDS, N3DS- and this is a fact Every more powerful handheld in Direct Competition with Nintendo (Dedicated Portable gaming Device- I would include apple/android in this Figure but I dont because apple/android devices are really in a different field- halfway between real console and Computers) has suffered massive losses. So far PSVita hasn’t seen a significant growth in sales however by Christmas these sales will boost a bit but significantly drop again after the holidays.. Nintendo will hover ever since they offer something completely different in style and function to ever portable in competition will steadily stay consistent in sales. Once again with a little research, what I say should be considered with careful thought. Nintendo’s mission and goals have always to been the same… and because of this will once again be recognized as the savior of the .Gaming Industry… until, others come and innovate their innovation and steal actual creativity… but u know Im just a butthurt fan boy, who needs a gay dick in my mouth first because I did your fat ugly momma with the saggy tiittes in the portapotter under the bridge because I am the ultimate troll… Billy F. No… VB was pretty creative… It was just put together wrong. No Color but red… It could have been ahead of it’s time and Nintendo’s most powerful- then- and important hardware to date if it had color…. nor launched it as a Portable.
The Gamecube.
NES brought in A and B buttons and the D-Pad, the SNES brought what is now the console controller standard, the N64 brought in the analog stick, the Wii brought in motion controls, and the Wii U will bring asymmetric gameplay. The Gamecube really didn’t do anything.
That’s what I thought too. Virtual Boy brought something new to the table, but it was a bad one, they were creative though. Game Cube was just another system with an unusual appearance to it.

Seeing all those systems makes me want Nintendo to officially produce a new wave of NES and SNES consoles as a budget, retro appeal item (I suppose Sony’s sound card for SNES might be an issue.) The games, like newer vinyl records, could contain a download code for the Virtual Console.
I could also see a similar thing being done w/ the Game Boy, which could use something similar to a Kindle’s screen to provide a very long battery life at a reasonable cost.
um… they already have this… it’s called a 3ds…
I’m not talking about VC. I’m talking about a reproduced physical console that plays physical cartridges of the most popular titles for said systems. That’s why I said the game boxes could contain download codes in addition to the cartridge (again, like more recently pressed vinyl records). Please learn to read and comprehend a post before responding.
Sure it would be a niche product (mainly because it’s easy to just download an older game), but I’m sure there are people who would like to own official reproduced systems and titles without paying the price required for unopened originals.
